Reviews of Clear Flour Bakery
I go pretty regularly and I love all the pastries. My favorite are the financiers, gibassier, and the tea cakes. Perfect for a Sunday morning clean. The line is always present at the bakery bur moves quickly. I've never waited longer than 15 minutes. Staff are polite and efficient.
I would eat here everyday if I would to try all the bread and pastries they have. The ones we tried were so good, you can tell they know what they are doing. Highly recommend!!
Omg love this bakery shop! Always got the flourless choco cake and cinnamon raisin bread! Used to make french toast by using the cinnamon raisin bread. Tastes soooo good! Highly recommended
Some of the best pastries, cakes and customer service ever!! Very popular, so be ready to wait in line, but totally worth it. A must regular visit!
Wow!! Only had the Fougasse and it’s the best bread I’ve ever had. If you like pumpkin seeds or a general toasty/roasted flavor, you need to try it!! They even shaped the bread like a pumpkin for this Halloweekend. Such a great bakery. Can’t wait to be back to try the French flower bread.
Best bakery I found in Boston. They have large variety of bread. I had a delicious rye sourdough. But the sour croissant with black sesame seeds is something special I recommend. It was a resemblance of German laugencroissant with a particular twist.
And a pluss, they have a decent filter
One of the best pastries I ever taste. They have the classic ones but also different combinations unique of this place. Don’t get intimidated by the line, it moves fast and it’s worth waiting.
It’s probably the best bakery I tried in the USA. Amazing baked good, I always visit them when I come to Boston
Excellent bakery. Good variety of pastries, staple breads, and committed to high quality ingredients and final products. I got the spinach egg croissant and the currant baked donut. Both 10/10. I don’t know how they managed to get a yeast donut texture without the frying but WOW they’ve cracked the code on that one (and that’s coming from a donut lover…). I’ll definitely be coming back with a larger backpack to fit more goodies!
While I no longer live near by when I need bread or some pastry this is my go to. I love the bread, the croissants are excellent and I think they have my favorite scones. I went to get Thanksgiving bread and rolls and while busy the employees where incredibly helpful in discussing what was still in stock and they even provided hot cider.
Excellent bakery for breads and rotating selections of croissants, cookies, tea cakes, rustic tarts, etc. They only make certain things on certain days so if you want something specific, make sure you call ahead and ask, and plan to visit on that day of the week. Very small space inside, currently limited to 3 customers at a time so definitely will have to stand in line outside. Line is 30-40 mins at any given time.
Excellent, but expensive (as most groceries in Boston.)
The sizes of bred can slightly vary from day to day.
The quality of pizza dough depends on how long it’s stored before use (12-24 hours after fresh preparation is best). Bake it at 500F on a pizza steel for best results.
How wonderful to run into this famed shop accidently on a cold winter day, trying to bring some treats to a dinner party last-minute. The staff was so patient and friendly, picking their most acclaimed baked goods for me. They turn out to be a hit for my guests. Thank you for your kindness.
Exceptional product. However, their system leaves much to be desired. Clear Flour often sells out without a mechanism to inform customers waiting outside in the cold. This slows down their entire process because individuals enter the bakery after a long wait and then have to decide what to get all over again based on what is actually available (which is often limited). They could also improve by hiring additional staffing as runners to assist with the check out process to keep the line moving. Allowing pick up even during their busy season would also show that they value customers. Simple changes could make all the difference in the customer experience here.
The best European bakery I’ve experienced in the US. Tatte is a reputable chain and very popular in this area, but Clear Flour is the best of the best. Everything I’ve tried- from pistachio croissants to monkey bread to focaccia and everything in between- has been outstanding. Although it is pricey, you can never go wrong. Great staff as well- very friendly, kind people who know a lot about bread!
I’ve been coming here since I was a kid- clear flour is the quintessential Brookline experience. Their baguette, New England night, and Paris night loaves were a staple in my parents’ weekly grocery shop. Their desserts never disappoint, and there’s truly a reason why people line up outside!
The best bakery in the Boston area. We moved out of the neighborhood and still take regular trips back.
Best baguettes and croissants I’ve ever eaten.
Simply the best.
This is an incredible bakery, one of the best I've ever been to in the US and Europe included. Go check it out! They also do a great job for the many holidays around here.
Definitely give this bakery a try! Even though there’s always a long line but it’s worth waiting!
Once you enter the bakery, you’ll be amazed by the varieties of breads and pastries. I wish I could try them all at once but I can’t eat that much🙈This time I bought three breads, bread pudding and two croissants, and all three are delicious! I will absolutely come again to try more breads!
Check out their website for the most recent list of available bread for the day

This place is heaven!! The most authentic European bakery I found so far in the Boston area. Their croissants could easily be the best part of a working day. If I have to guess, get some of their pastry for difficult conversations, it will only help it to go smoother =P heaven. Period.
Exceptional bread and bakery in Brookline! We come here often because we live in the neighborhood. Everything we’ve tried has always been fresh, warm, and delightful. One thing I will say is that customer service can definitely improve. I love this place and want to love everything about it, but quite frankly the staff are straight up rude sometimes and I come here often. I’m not asking for chic fil a treatment, but just normal customer service and not eye rolls. This was also at 9am, with no line so I’m not sure what constituted the mean service when it was a slow morning and plenty of staff.
Easily the best croissants in the Greater Boston area! While I unfortunately do not live as close by as before, whenever I visit I always try to schedule a visit to grab one of their delectable chocolate croissants. This time around I tried a blueberry scone and a chocolate bouchon, both of which were delicious.
Thank goodness that there wasn’t much of a line outside this local favorite the rainy day that we went there. The shop is tiny but smells incredible immediately after entering this quaint little bake shop. The gibassier was incredible. The slight anise flavor was not overwhelming, but complimented the orange very well. The blueberry tart was bursting with fresh blueberry flavor, not overwhelmingly sweet, and had simple flavors that shined through. The financier was also perfect. Dense with a rich almond flavor. Their almond croissant was everything a croissant should be. Airy inside, flaky outside and with the right amount of almond paste. The service was also wonderful. The little lady that helped us was friendly and didn’t rush us through our decision process, even though they were busy. She made splendid recommendations. Nothing but great things to say about this local Boston bakery.
Wonderful healthy food and bakery. Wish though they could make more mini cookies, cakes, and muffins. Healthier
Best bakery in Brookline-Boston area and maybe best bakery in the world. They use the highest quality ingredients. Truly a gift to the folks of the Boston area.

I'm from Germany and I looked for some not so sweat breads. The most breads are with corn syrup but these breads are awesome!! ❤
I looked for a "normales Brot" or a "grey bread" and I found it here!!❤
So I choosed a Vollkorn Brot (~8$) and a German Rye(~10$). I love this place and whenever I need more bread I will go there!!
The best bakery in Boston, be prepared to wait outside for a while if you come during peak hours!
👍 Good chocolate croissant, not too fat as I like ❤️
👍One of the best place in boston to find french bakery.
The scones are good but not exceptional …
Hole in a wall! Good variety of bread, croissant and cookies. I really like their pretzel croissant!
The service is pretty good and fast!
Clear Flour means so much to me. I've lived within walking distance of it for years but only really became a regular customer once the pandemic hit for two reasons: 1. The way the business has handled safety both of customers and staff during the pandemic has been truly admirable and I've always felt safe buying from them and 2. The joy factor. Their breads and pastries are delicious and their staff is always kind even when the line is long and customers are stressed. They're a true beating heart of Brookline and though a fresh-baked fougasse, gruyere croissant, or world peace cookie can't solve all the problems, they have certainly each made my day.
Sometimes the line gets out of hand, especially on weekend mornings, but man, is it worth it. Each weekday has a special pastry and bread, so there's always variety. It really rewards repeat visits. They've expanded the indoor space from a few years ago, but don't expect to be able to sit down to savor your purchase--this is a grab and go establishment.
Didn't have the usual selections on the menu due to covid so I just grabbed the cheesecake and brownies but the cheesecake is soooooo good oh em gee! Looking forward to when they have more selections to taste.
First time there and I ordered the cheese and chocolate croissant. Both were delicious. Very fluffy. I am sure their bread is delicious too. We will try that next time. The staff was very helpful, I told them it was my first time and they went over the menu and what they bake on daily basis. A must try!
The breads and pastries are wonderful but the lines can be very long
Love to stop by here whenever I go to Boston. Fresh baked items and different baked goods. They sell out so get in line early.
Always a delightful experience...Sunday tradition has been to grab a few delightfully delicious pastries and enjoy them on their on street patio. Can’t go wrong with anything they bake. True story.
Usually lots of people, especially in the weekend. But the bread and bakery are in great quality. Worth your money. Also, staffs are very nice. They are polite and have good service mind no matter how much you buy.
Outstanding pastries, excellent bread, and a pleasant environment. Definitely one of the best in the area.
Lovely place, lovely and friendly attendant and awesome kitchen! We love the breads and the flourless chocolate cake and macarrons! You really should try.
Delicious bakery, monkey bread in the pic was 👌🏻 …
I've tried breads from all over the world and can say Clear Flour has things going the right way. Solid breads, great flavor, crunchy crust.. highly recommend!
We come here every time we visit Boston. When they open in the morning, there will be a line waiting outside. Why? Because it’s that good. Everything on the menu that I’ve tried has been perfect.
Easily one of THE BEST bakeries you will find in all of Boston. I was fortunate enough to live nearby for several years. Though I live outside the city now I'll still make a trip just for their old world breads, and some croissants. If you on getting their early, there is always a line, but it's def worth the wait. Make sure you buy extra so you don't regret it later.
Great rolls! The prices are a slightly high but you can taste the quality and it’s worth it.
10 out of 10 You MUST arrive 30 min before opening, there will be a line. There quiche is to die for it’s delicious, obliviously their bread is incredible.
You must get the sunflower piece with sesame seeds in the center, i brought it to a party and everyone was complimenting the quality.
Their coffee it’s a nice add but you can pass.
Their almond macaroons MUST MUST while they last ! It’s fabulous.
You must get one of everything at one point, best contribution to Allston.
Cute little bakery nestled into the neighborhood. Bread and baked goods are so fresh. Everything is good here. Gift cards make nice presents.
I’ve been going here for a few years now. Nothing to complain about. They’ve got the best bakery bread in all of Boston, hands down.
I love all Clear Flour's delicious products, but I ran a business myself and had to calculate prices without having had the "luxury of adding an administrative fee".
The best bakery in Boston. Never had a bad experience and have been going there for years!
HERVORRAGEND! If you love German bread, this is the place to go. Check their schedule for when they bake Dinkelbrot, Bauernbrot, Vollkornbrot, and Brezeln. I bike in 100 heat for this bread—it’s that good!
I hesitate to give this place another glowing review because I don't want the lines to get any longer, but it is phenomenal. We love the olive rolls, almond croissants, and black sesame sticks in particular, and all their breads are great. The people are also really pleasant, and the service is great. When the line was extra long before Thanksgiving, they came around with hot cider for everyone waiting.
Amazing baked good, knowledgeable and considerate staff and bakers who really know their stuff.
Everything you've heard is true. This is hands-down the best all-around bakery in Massachusetts. Just wait til you taste their work! Fabulous, delicious and masterful. You can't get a kids birthday cake here but anything you could hope or dream of is likely here.
I've visited most of the "top rated" bakeries in Boston, and Clear Flour is the clear winner. I travel quite a bit out of my way to get to Clear Flour. Their bread and pastries are of the absolute highest quality - in my view, quite a step above all the rest. Their rustic tarts are amazing - incredible laminated pastry, and fantastic fruit. Their German rye bread is outstanding! And on and on. Let me say that everything I've tried has been top notch. The staff are super friendly and helpful and kind. I also love that they take Covid seriously and only let in 3 customers at a time. Also fantastic is the fact that they don't take online orders, so when you go, their stock isn't wiped out by people who ordered from their couches. (Unfortunately, another "top rated" bakery generally doesn't even have bread for people who make the trip to their store, because they didn't order online in advance.) I love that Clear Flour's coffee option is one kind of coffee in a carafe, for about $1.88. They focus on bread and pastry, which is exactly where they should focus. The excellence of their baked goods always make it well worth the trip. Thanks for being such an authentic bakery!
Best bakery in Boston. High motivated, very friendly staff and the bread is amazing!
It’s the most European style bakery I’ve ever found in Boston! The fruit rustic tart is my favorite,I have tried blueberry raspberry and strawberry, they all great!
One of the only places that can call itself a bakery. They seriously need to ramp up the pain au chocolat production though.
I almost don't want to leave a review because there's already a line out the door most times I go here but their bread and desserts are excellent and they deserve the credit. They have a large selection and always have solid staples as well as unique items. The offerings rotate frequently. All around excellent bakery. Great pizza dough too!
The blueberry currant scone will change your life. Best bakery in Boston/Brookline.
Oh my! Discovered this treasure through a friend of a friend on Facebook. We got a selection of breads and pastries and everything was top notch. Super quality. Amazing flavors. Friendly staff. Wonderful experience. Can't wait to go back!
It is always a treat to go to this place. Excellent artisan breads and baked goods. As of May 2022, they only allow 3 customers at a time as well as still require masks.
I got a chocolate chip cookie, trail mix cookie, and a banana bread with cream cheese icing. The cookies were great, especially the chocolate chip one which is one of the best I’ve had. The banana bread with cream cheese icing was also delicious. It was moist and the balance between the cream cheese icing and the banana was perfect. This place is a must visit, but definitely be prepared to wait in line.
The best bakery in Boston! You must try their canele, olive bread, and french baguette. I’ve gone every week since discovering them — such a great bakery!
Used to live by this place. It can get pacjed, but that is because it is so good. Everyone who works there is always kind and helpful.
I recommend the olive bread! Get three!
Locals will know this place is very outspoken about their liberal politics....
I am a hardcore conservative Trump Supporter.
I would wear 10 masks, three face shield, take 10 jabs, and cover myself in Pride pins just to have one crumb of a day old madeleine from here. This place is that good. Nothing more needs to be said, just go try it for yourself.
Some of the best baked goods and breads available in the Boston area. Especially recommend the fougasse and fruit tarts. I go out of my way to come here because the products are of such exceptionally high quality.
If you go on a weekend, especially in the morning, do be aware that you might have to wait in line for a while — but that's just because the stuff is so good.
I was so incredibly impressed with the orange cardamom tart I ate that I couldn't stop thinking about it for 3 days and came online just to write a review. So silky, rich but light, with the fragrance of cardamom perfectly balanced. Will definitely be back!
Im out of state but my father lives nearby Clear Flour. I was looking for a place to get him holiday stolen instead of where I usually ship from in
Chicago. I had him set up to get one and while he was there he bought a second. Its been a week since he got them and both are about gone. He said it was the best he's had. Thank you for the great job you are doing. I expect he will be back for other items as well as he said your macaroons were fantastic. I will reach out again next year if not sooner for other gifts for him.
Thanks again
Great tea cakes and good service. Whole grain breads very good. Could use more conventional rolls.
Best bakery around! Be careful coming on a weekend, as the line can sometimes be over 30 people long waiting to get a fresh loaf of bread!
The only real bread I’ve found in Boston. The best french style bakery I’ve been outside of Paris. There’s a long line at peak times. There’s also a good reason! Plan accordingly!
This bakery is BY FAR the best bakery I have ever been to. The staff is always welcoming and friendly and you can smell their amazing baked goods all the way down the street. They always have a huge variety of breakfast pasties, tarts, desserts, and so many awesome breads. It is a small store so there is usually a line to get in but it is ALWAYS worth the wait.
Quite possibly one of the only places in the Boston metropolitan area where you can get fresh bread like you would have in a small European bakery! It's no surprise they call themselves clear flour bakery as the flavours are pure and clean, unmeddled with sweeteners and preservatives. It's quite clear their priorities rest in providing the best sorts and shapes of bread. The only real caveat is the price-point, which is quite high, and the wait time at peak hours. But when you buy that demi baguette on your way home and eat it out of the bag, plain, without condiments, without butter, I'm rather certain the last thing you'll think about is the price and the wait. A delightful taste of Europe in a charmingly quaint part of Brookline!
This is by far the best bakery in the Boston area. They make very good quality rustic breads using very good flour and excellent care. They make the best fruit tarts I’ve ever had, I especially love the blueberry and the kiwi plum. You can also buy them frozen to bake at home. They have these amazing little buttery morsels called canelé,they are the size of a chocolate and are filled with a fine custard and very caramelized on the exterior, I recommend you buy lots of these as everyone seems to love them. Be sure to go early as they run out of many items.
I went here 3-4 times/week throughout the pandemic for a treat and was never disappointed. Wonderful staff, great Covid protocols, and of course delicious food! Try their unique ice cream flavors if you get a chance; my other favorites are the tea cakes, world peace cookie, and flourless chocolate cake! Great specialty desserts for holidays too! I miss this bakery now that I have moved out of Boston!
Been going over 25+ years to this neighborhood bakery. Consistent excellence over the years. Do yourself a favor and stop by any time!
I visited Clear Flour Saturday morning and was blown away by the amazing service! My cashier, I think his name was Jesse, gave me so many great recommendations and made me feel really welcome in the store!
This is my favorite bread in Boston. I love it all. My hours lost includes the black sesame stick, almond macaroon, pan de mie. It's all great really.
Unbelievably amazing bakery. One of the best I have ever been too. There's a perpetual line for good reason. Well worth the wait no matter the weather. I can't say enough good things about their food
Great chocolate croissant. Come here during the weekdays to avoid lines.
Really special little place. Everything is incredible. It’s a must see. Note: the place is small and only a few people can fit inside at a time to purchase so there is usually a line during peak hours but well worth the wait
Believe the hype. One of my top 5 favorite businesses in the Boston area. We left town and I miss them.
Super cute bakery with yummy pastries and beads. Nice outdoor seating space for good weather. I tried the raspberry croissant and baguette and they were delicious!
Their almond croissants are so delicious I haven't tried anything else! There is little to no line if you go early weekday mornings, but these croissants are well worth the wait if there is a line.
Was my first time visiting on this April snowy day; the lady at the counter was so kind and friendly, the aromas of the fresh bakeries exquisite! I can’t wait to share this scrumptious treat! Thank you, Clear Flour! ♥️♥️♥️
Went for the first time and there was a long line as other reviews indicate. Seeing as this is a predictable circumstance for the business, it would be nice if they put out water or additional shading as many in the line were trying to cram under the scarce shading from the sun.
I wouldn’t have minded the wait if the pastries were as good as what other people have written. The ones I ordered lacked flavor unfortunately. Perhaps it was an off day, but with the wait in mind I wouldn’t put myself through that again to give it a second shot.
The bread here is life changing. You will have to wait in line no matter what time of the day you come, but I promise it’s worth it! You NEED bread, pastries, and baked goods from here!!!
Love the rotating tea cakes, I am yet to find a flavor that’s not amazing
Best bakery in Boston! It was a small but very clean place with amazing pastries.
I really enjoy going to this bakery, especially for its chocolate chip cookies. However......today they were too soft. I hope someone can with address this issue and go back to their original crunchy cookie 🍪 which is so amazing. Or, create two types of cookies: soft and crunchy. Thanks! …
Excellent breads made traditionally. One of the only bakeries in Boston that I like their breads.
These days they maintain a good COVID-19 hygiene.
Quite expensive but recommended
Everything here is delicious! Breads, croissants, cookies, pastries and so many more amazing options. Definitely one of the best bakeries in Boston and well beyond! Croissants are my particular favs, all flavors. HIGHLY recommend.
Clear Flour Bakery have the best & tastiest Galette des rois!! I even ate it at 5:30 am today as its so delicious! highly recommend it!
I have yet to find a loaf that rivals their Vollkornbrot. It’s a rye experience that I couldn’t match while living in London nor SF. A word of advice though: TSA will stop you if you try to bring a loaf in your carry-on, so just pull it out with your laptop because it’ll save you the hassle of being stopped while also making everyone else in the airport jealous of your bread for the week!
In all seriousness, I made sure to make a weekly trip throughout my 5 years in Boston and still believe every crumb was worth every penny. When they have soda bread, I usually finished half the loaf before finishing the 20 minute commute home. Everyone in the bakery is friendly and can help you find a bread you’ll like if you’re not sure what you’re in the mood for. If you’re still reading this, please stop reading and just go get a loaf already!
Visiting a friend and he said this was a must stop. So glad she insisted, clear flour has wonderful pastries, bread and goodies. Favorite was probably their currant donut, so soft and delicious. But really I think anything one orders will be delicious. It's this small corner store front, but a must go to in my opinion.
The bread here is outstanding. Full stop. Service is fast though the wait can be a bit long ('cause everyone else wants fantastic bread too). They have the classic French and Italian breads plus an ever changing and always excellent selection of pastries.
Croissants are light and fluffy. Their sourdoughs are chewy and tart. Gah! It's all just so good!
This Brookline bakery is one of, if not the, best in the boston metro area.
Breads and pastries are astounding! They're always baking up something different to try! Don't sleep on their ice cream! The people who staff the place are genuine and kind!
Best baguette I've had since returning from Paris. And if that isn't enough, everything else there is equally as well made and delicious. Staff is incredibly friendly to boot. Expect a bit of a line on any given day, but well worth it. Also, staying open late in the day for those of us who aren't morning people, thanks!
Visited here a few days before Thanksgiving 2020 in search of a round Pumpernickel loaf. There was a line outside, despite the rain, and people already in line assured me that, even pre-Covid, youb could expect a line. They, unfortunately didn't have what I was looking for, but to say that the experience was memorable and an understatement.
Once inside, a cozy little bakery counter and a veritable cornucopia of bread and pastry products great the senses, and it's all beautiful. The bread looks like something you would expect to see in a quaint Illustration of artisan bread like something out 9f Norman Rockwell.
And the staff! So friendly! They were very knowledgeable, and incredibly patient, and in light of the fact that they didn't have what I needed, they were happy to make recommendations of other local establishments I should check. I was so impressed, I still wound up purchasing a large Rye loaf which was phenomenal. I also had a Financier (if you don't know what a Financier is, you must immediately try one) and the taste and texture combination... Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise that this bakery is a long far distance from my home, because I could see myself getting fat very quickly in this little bakery of carb heaven.
Stopped in for just some challah bread and left with some dinkelbrot and a croissant as well. Let me just say dinkelbrot is dense! Overall both the challah and dinkelbrot were pretty good and I appreciated that they kept well over several days without getting too stale quickly or moldy for that matter in the very hot and humid Boston weather.
This is the best bakery in the Boston area. If you are even remotely around the Packard's corner area it's worth a stop by. The lines can get long early mornings in the weekends. I have yet to be disappointed by any purchase I've made. I often leave with much more than I intended because once your inside the smells will entice you to buy more!
Highly recommend!
I got German Rye bread and Chocolate Chuck tea cake. The bread was okay but the tea cake was over priced. I am giving it 4 stars because I like the existence of a bakery focused on bread making.
Clear flour is one of my favorite bakeries that I've discovered. The food is amazing, the staff is friendly, and I love walking past it in the morning on my way to the train - the wafting cookie smell is so nice! Such a hidden gem.
There are super long lines in the mornings, even on the week days, so definitely stop by in the afternoon or evening.
One of the best bakery I have found in North America! So sad I don't have one close to home. I tried the croissants, the chocolatines and danishes and they were all delicious! I wish I could have them all the time! Worth the wait in line.
One of the best bakeries in Boston. Great and large selection of breads and pastries with many European options. They also sell at some local farmer's markets. Small but nice outside seating area.
I was in town visiting a friend and saw this little bakery while on a morning run. What a great find! Everything I got was delicious, and I still think about the almond macaroons constantly (do you ship!?). I went back 2 more times during my trip and would probably still go every day if I wasn't states away.
Quality of bread varies day by day. Morning baguettes are generally beautifully baked
Great pastries
I love Clear Flour so much, everything they make is amazing.
Before the pandemic I didn’t think I could love this bakery more, but they’ve prioritized employee health and closed multiple times.
I can only imagine that some entitled WFH smucks - who have never worked a day in customer service - have something to say about the closings, shorter hours, and limited selection.
They can kick rocks!
We’ve lost so many iconic Bostonish businesses due to the Commonwealth & Federal governments failing to implement adequate public policy measures; I really hope Clear Flour will make it.
This is a real "hidden gem", literally, of a bakery. Lots of dessert options. To put it into perspective, When Pigs Fly is good for a selection of exotic and artisan bars) breads whereas Clear Flour Bakery is great with pastries, baked goods, and fresh bread straightforward choices.
The ONLY reason I'm giving out 4 stars is because for some inexplicable reason, they don't have a bread slicer. You can buy a full or half loaf of bread, but you're on your own to slice it at home. Bummer.
The lemon bars kinda made up for that though.
Everything I’ve ever gotten here has been delicious! The first time I went I talked to someone in line who was visiting from out of town and getting two of everything. I don’t blame them! I’ll keep coming back here and trying new things ☺️
The best bakery in Boston. European style pastries. One can taste the ingredients rather than only sugar. Don't even get me started on the bread. I'm lucky if I get home with half a loaf.
Is it possible to give more than five stars? This place should get 50 stars. Their baguettes are almost unimaginably good.
Love coming to Clear Flour in the mornings! Seeing Jessie and Alex is such a great start to my day! Along with the croissants of course
There is no place even close to this Bakery
I am very lucky to be able to access this place in Brookline.
I am ranking it one of the best in the world not just just Massachusetts. 👍 …
I don't have much to add as all the previous reviews say it at all. This place is spectacular. I am only writing this review in response to "Andy" who gave 4 stars to Clear Flour due to its lack of "bread slicer". Come on "Andy"! where is your perspective? Clear Flour is not a bread slicer kind of place. Imagine if I go to the best Japanese restaurant in the region, but I give them a 4-star review, because they did not have ketchup?
Best European bakery in Tri-state area.
Best bread, best almond croissants, best eclairs, best German style rye ! Linzer tart worthy of a long line in the cold!
Some of the best bakes goods we’ve had in Boston! Especially the fruit tart, it was amazing.
I love the bread here. It's a tiny Bakery, so with covid the wait times can be unsavory. It's definitely worth a wait, but if the line is crazy just go back later in the day!
Clear Flour serves unbelieveable pastries, with some of the best chocolate croissants I've ever had. They are perfect to bring to a holiday brunch, and their cookies are a welcome addition to any dessert platter. While you're there, be sure to pick up a loaf of one of their many varieties of bread.
Perfection. True Artisanship. I smelled the deliciousness from down the street. Everything looks perfect here and Everything I have tried has been absolutely delicious. Some of my favorite treats include the Orange Broiche, the Baked Currant Donut, the Morning Bun with Walnuts. Their breads look like complete perfection. Everything tastes like it comes straight from a French boulangerie/patisserie. I love when I find their breads at other places I frequent, I know whatever I am going to have will be good!
Everything looked well made and I cannot wait to return. Everyone that worked here was friendly and patient despite the line.
This place is amazing. The breads are fantastic. It smells the way a bakery should. There can be a line out the door sometimes, but it's worth it to wait in line. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They accept CCs
This little gem offers some of the best bread in Boston. You can smell the glorious delight of freshly baked goods as soon as you come in. The people are very friendly too.
The amazing Galettes des Rois is worth the line on January 6. You cannot reserve a pastry, so make sure you call ahead and ask if they will make more that day.
Best bread in all of New England (no lie). Very reasonably priced, tastes as good as the bread in france. Tons of different options, ranging from traditional to more exotic. Great as a gift or to eat on your own.
Charming little shop hidden within the neighborhoods of Brookline. It just smells amazing as you walk in. The space is TINY so be sure you aren't planning on staying for a while or expecting to have room to turn. BUT-- if the weather's nice and you don't mind indulging in a few pastries-- you can walk to a few nearby parks. It has wonderful charm and delicious baked goods, so it's definitely worth a stop.
Clear Flour Bread Bakery is heaven in a slice of bread. Their sourdough roles and german rye are delightful. The people working their are extremely friendly and knowledgable. Be prepared to wait in line if you come here on a Sunday morning but it is completely 100% worth the wait.
THE best pastries and breads in Boston. I ordered two of their breakfast platters for my small brunch-time wedding and they were very well-received.
Really great bread that matches with European standards. My favorite is their brioche and French baguette.
They always have a great selection of bread and pastries. Sometimes it's very busy. People will line up before it opens or the line will be out the door. They can sell out of specific things so it's better to go early. It's worth the 10min wait when it is busy.
Best bakery in the neighborhood. Get ready for huge lines on weekends :) It’s totally worth it! Excellent choice of bread. Tarts with berries are the best!
A wonderful, cozy European bakery tucked away on a hidden street in Brookline. The intoxicating smell of baking bread when you first walk in is heavenly. They have the most amazing breads and desserts here. Be sure to grab a half loaf of Pain de Mie (don't do the full loaf unless you are in serious need of bread), morning buns, a chocolate croissant, fruit tart... You can't go wrong getting anything in there. It's all delicious!
Hands down the best French bakery in the north east.
That was 2 years ago and it is still very true now. I was nervous after the ownership change but it isvery much the same great bakery!
Best sourdough bread I've maybe ever had, possibly 2nd only to San Francisco. Experts that have refined their craft.
Excited to stand in line outside on a Sat afternoon. Inga's expertise and flavor combinations are outstanding. I'm eating a pillowy wild orange caraway seed sugar coated pastry. I've found new hints of flower (elder? rose?) and spice (white peppercorn?) in very bite.
Thank you, Inga, Clear Flour Bakery proprietors and the entire staff. Please open a Clear Flour Bakery in Brooklyn before I, hopefully, move back in a few years.
Only bakery I go to for fresh baked bread! Waited an hour on a Saturday morning to get in, but I’m not even complaining - it’s that good.
This place blows away pretty much every other bakery in the area. My only grioe is that its a 15 minute drive from my house.
Good pastries and fresh bread the European way!
Small bakery tucked into a corner. of Brookline off Harvard St. Great selection of breads, croissants and other sweets. Worth a journey.
One of the best bakeries in the Boston area
So glad I live near to this great bakery!
Without a doubt the best bakery, and especially the best baguette, I've had in the whole east coast. Probably one of the top 5 artisan bakeries in the country. Simply 5 stars, without hesitation.
Amazing sourdough. Only allowing 2 ppl in at a time due to COVID, but well worth any wait.
Also got some challah which was great for French toast.
Everyone knows this is one of the best in the Boston area, if not the best. I'd argue it's the best for rustic Italian bread for sure.
The nicest place!! The food is SO good. U should definitely stop by:)
I'd want Clear Flour bread to be on the menu for my last meal. Simply the best in the Boston area. The baguette, the ancienne baguette, the scones, the sticky buns, the epi, the olive rolls, it's all amazing.
Best bread I had in Boston
Best Bakery in the Boston area. If you are from Europe and miss the bread and pastries, this is the place you get the authentic taste. It is worth waiting 30min in line, every time.
The blueberry scone is the best I’ve ever had! All the bread was also delicious, you can’t go wrong with anything here!
I love not only the bread but scorns as well. These are big enough, decent sweet and, crispy outside and moist inside. All are good, but a little too expensive for me.
Clear Flour has been a great place to pick up bread and other baked goods for years.
We moved to Brookline and my husband said, "Well, your commute will be shorter." And he meant my commute to Clear Flour. The bread and selection of breads are the stuff of carby dreams.
They make the most delicious bread, croissants and pays. It gets very crowded, especially on weekend mornings but the lines go fast.
Finally found a great bakery. The bread is amazing, real Italian and French styles. I wish I could stop by every day to pick up the day's groceries.
My dad grew up in Marseille France and he says this is the best place for french bread in mass. All the bakery items are excellent.
My favorite bakery. French baguettes, almond macaroons, German pretzels, and consistently excellent seasonal specialties. Friendly, helpful, and patient staff.
The chocolate chuck cookies best ever !!
Just stop in the other day cookies are just as good as I remembered
Have been going here 4-5 times a week for the past 7 months, friendly staff, good price.
Can get busy sometimes, if you time your visit properly then it should be a wonderful visit.
One of the best loaves of bread I have ever eaten. 6 stars!
Delicious pastries, wish there was more space
I usually go for pastries, which are very good and easily the best that I know of in the area. I've only gotten loaves once or twice, but they were also very good. A bit pricey though.
Probably the best bakery in the Boston area. Downside is that you’ve to wait at least 30 mins on Sat morning and 10 mins on weekdays in the morning just to get in the shop (and there’s a line inside as well).
This artisan bakery is a little slice of heaven on a corner. Everything is made fresh daily and even though the price might look high, it's worth every penny. Every. Single. Time.
We LOVE clear flour so much!!! I have yet to buy a pastry or a loaf of bread that didn't make it to my top 10 favs.
Best french bread, chocolate croissants and ice cream. Wonderful staff and owner. A great community bakery.
Clear flour Sourdough is the most digestible bread known to man. Make sure you pickup a free poster if it’s a new one!
Bread is perfect, they do a really nice chocolate bouchon and provide excellent service! A must-try if you're ever in the Brookline area.
Clear Flour is close to perfection. (As Mohammed pointed out, only Allah can make perfection.) After decades of searching for fault, the worst I can say is that sometimes some loaves of bread have dough that is too light (some francophiles might say the baguette is not quite chewy enough) and the granola is not so interestingly tasty, lacking in toasted nuts and other touches. Clear Flour teaches us about the seemingly infinite splendor of breads, pastries, and other niceties of life. Their annual posters decorate my kitchen. The memory of their continuing kindness towards people, despite the demanding customers eager after waiting in long line, warms my heart. One of Brookline's, nay the Boston metro's, finest assets. For those who crave the perfect croissant or apple tart or pain de compagne or vollkornbrot, you have found heaven.
Excellent, excellent bread at surprisingly reasonable prices. If I didn't live twenty miles away, I'd be there 2-3 times a week.
Outstanding baked goods and always friendly staff!
I left Boston 17 years ago and I still dream about the Sicilian olive rolls with rosemary, red pepper and nice chunks of olives.
The chocolate chip cookies are delicious
A taste of Europe in Brookline! Always delectable, always incredible quality. Worth every penny spent. Who could do better? A must for any occasion or special food event.
Been wanting to go here for years and we finally made the drive. So worth it and it smelled amazing walking through the door. The people working there could not have been kinder!
Nice fresh bread baked daily. Bread is fresh and lasts long time, not that you will let it sit around.
Great place..amazing staff. Everything we bought was most delicious. Can't wait to go back 😊 …
I regularly go way out of my way to buy their delicious selection of pastries and breads! Go and go often.
In my humble op they make the best croissant in Boston
A touch overpriced, but that's a given when you're dealing with an artisanal bakery using premium ingredients!
So good. Variety of delicious fresh bread and pastry.
One of the best bakeries in town. Two problems: always endless line, and prices a bit high. Apart from that the place is great.
Great neighborhood bakery with tons of freshly baked pastries and they have special chef inspired pastries based on special holidays.
This place is just the best. Top quality baked goods and great staff, old world charm.
Be on the best Bakery in Boston as far as I can see. Tremendous experience every time I go.
Been coming here for the better part of a decade. Solid baked goods and have never been disappointed with anything I've tried. Expect a queue though!
My Saturday would not be complete if I hadn't waited in line for the tastiest bread in the Boston area in the quaintest little shop in a most wonderful neighborhood!
The closest to a good German bread I have found in Boston.
This place has never disappointed me once. Never. Everything is just wonderful and way beyond satisfying. I live nearby so I come in a few times a week since there are surprises all the time.
Delicious croissants and French batards. Have adapted quickly to the current pandemic environment and have prioritized safety.
My fav bakery probably in america. Nothing tops their cinnamon bread, olive bread, ciabatta
great bread and pastries in Boston
By far the best bakery in Boston and probably on the whole East Coast!
Sad that I didnt get to try the pretzel dip they don't make it anymore
One of the best bakeries in Boston. Chocolate croissants and the breads are great.
This place smells like a beautiful hug! The smell of breads and pastries oh my! Reasonably priced too.
I bring All my Real Estate Clients here to introduce them to the Best Local Bakery! Bring your appetite!
Best bakery. Get fresh breads and classic french pastries for a good price!
The croissants with gruyere are heavenly. Fruit tarts as well. And chocolate chunk cookies!
Great pastries, great bread, and a staff that can't be beat!
There are polite person. I really happy to visit. And bread is nice. :)
They glory in their white flour here and have reason to do so as it is all very good including sour dough.
Visiting MIT and friend recommended this place - just what a good bakery should be - I feel like I’m in France!
Absolutely the best bakery in Boston. Trust me, I m French.
Best bread in the Boston area. Hands down.
So far this is the best bread i have ever eaten in the USA.
The best croissants, morning buns, and savory breads I've had of any bakery in the US. Literally.
Amazing collection. The baker's warm welcome adds to the charm of this place.
Great bakery. Lots of specialty breads, and other pastry items. Real sourdough bread!
Makes you wonder why are you even buying bread any other place. Or croissants. Or pain aux raisins. Or brioche... You get the point.
Best baguettes in Boston. Interesting daily specials. But be prepared to wait and wait in line outside.
My temple! Best of European breads and pastries in a tiny adorable package!
Fine.
Yummy deliciousness. Totally worth the wait. Everything honestly is delicious. Serve it up my funeral please
Best bakery in Brookline, great as ever!
Oh so good, oh so good, oooooh… soooo…. Gooood!
Just heaven. This is the bakery of your dreams. Come early as there is always a line, but well worth it!
I love their savory pastries!
Everything is delicious. My only request is to be able to have their loaves sliced.
About a 1 hour wait the Saturday before Easter, but worth the wait!
Simply put, the best bakery in Boston with the friendliest staff around. With a detour.
A great french bakery. Has the best french bread and chocolate croissants.
Fresh and tasteful
I love this place, best baguette I've found outside of Paris
Great bread and viennoiseries selection and affordable prices
Fantastic bread. Come here if you like fantastic bread. If you don't like fantastic bread, you are very likely a failure of our species.
Lovely bakery with generally knowledgeable staff. This IS a small bakery, it is not a place to brunch.

Fantastic bakery. Likely one of the best in the Boston area. This was my regular go to place for 20 years. I'm recently go there less and less since the prices really went up. Pain de mie literally became a pain to me.
Stopped by this morning for a wonderful croissant and coffee. Don't sleep on the unassuming $2 pitcher in the corner - George Howell roasts some of the best coffee in Boston!
Delicious
One word. Delicious
Haven't had a bad baked product here ever. Love the breads, especially the muesli rolls and the baguettes.
