Flavorful, substantial doughnuts with interesting toppings. Way too sweet for my taste but highly praised by most everyone that I know. I almost dropped to 3 stars because at 1:30 pm on a Saturday all filled doughnuts were gone.

Cute and cozy place that I really enjoyed visiting! I’ve never been before, but I will definitely be returning. I got the half dozen donuts: glazed, chocolate, pistachio, Will’s favorite, strawberry, and bread pudding. The bread pudding was DENSE, but still really good! My all time favorite was the Will’s favorite. It had buttercream and fresh strawberries in between a cut glazed donut. The donuts here were the perfect cross between fluffy and cakey! The service was really friendly and nice too! I will be coming back!

Perfect for those who can’t decide on sweet or savory breakfast — get the best brioche breakfast sandwich with BEC, then share a specialty donut with someone! Good amount of seating, great coffee, quick service. Cute takeout window for to-go orders outside too! Highly recommend the blueberry crumble donut and any BEC situation on the brioche. Hash browns are shareable and delicious too.

Crazy good fresh made daily in store unique doughnuts and all sorts of other delicious goodies! Once again a Homewood home run! This dozen is their regular set ( G.O.A.T.S in the menu) minus strawberry. Fair price for the quality☺️

Good donuts but $$. Got 2 dozen for $69 (!) - birthday donuts for son’s class. Was in a time crunch and couldn’t turn around to go elsewhere. They’re good, but not that good. You’re paying the location, the # employees, the interior design etc. I could’ve done better at Pastry Arts for that price….

A pleasure every time I go. But I wanted to mention that I contacted them before my son’s birthday which was Halloween themed even though it was in July (yes, it’s weird). I asked if they could make some orange and purple icing donuts, since I assumed they didn’t have Halloween decor in hand in July. I was clear that I wasn’t expecting them to go all out, just a bit of orange and purple if they had it. Not only were they super sweet and helpful, they went all out with bat shaped sprinkles and beautifully decorated Halloween themed donuts. They were a huge hit! I’m so thankful! They were so easy to work with. Even if my son was not crazy about their donuts in the first place, I would make a point of going more (as if we’re not there all the time already). Thank you Kristen!

Absolutely amazing. I got the bacon/egg/cheese sandwich with the crack sauce and pepper jam and it is the best sandwich I believe i have ever had!! I got the combo that came with hashbrowns and coffee. Also, very good. And to top it off I had the donut holes which were so delicious!! Friendly staff!

Damn good doughnuts. We were at the VIP tent at Furnace Fest and experienced them first that led us to coffee, a Mimosa pitcher and doughnuts a day later at their store.. Great little place to do a quick breakfast.

A gem in Homewood! There is usually a bit of a line/wait in peak weekend morning hours but we hit it a little early on a Sunday and got served right away. The donuts are large, delicious and worth the price!

Very fashion place, great service, clean, good decoration, tables inside and outside, we ordered breakfast and it was very good. We tried the pistachio donut and the original. They were very yummy. They have parking lot.

I finally gave this place a try. I must say it was Very Delicious!! Anna took our order, recommending to us the Hero Burger. I chose the double with fries. The burger was very delicious, from the tasty sauce as well as presentation. I loved the fries, as I believed they were seasoned well. Although my brother thought they were a tad salty. I also got the sweet tea, which was excellent!! Although I didn’t have room at the time, I purchased a couple donuts to go. The Blueberry Crumble and Coconut. They tasted wonderfully and seemed of a rather light dough than what I’m used to. Not bad just different. I’ll definitely be returning, to try the other yummy menu options. Come early while the donut selection is fresh. The outside appearance was very welcoming and inside was clean & comforting.

A very different type of donut. So light and airy. Nice flavors that weren’t too intense. Not too sugary sweet and didn’t make me sick after eating a few. The sugar and spice and pistachio were awesome.

I'm not normally a breakfast sandwich person. But, their Fried Chicken Folded Egg Breakfast Sandwich came highly recommended. I tried it and MAN, am I glad that I did. That was some off-the-charts sandwich. Really, go to Hero Donuts and get their Breakfast Sandwich with fried chicken. It will be a good morning.

Omgawwwww!!! Hero's Donuts in Homewood's MAPLE Donuts are the BOMB!!!!! Fantastic. Perfect. Precisely the right mix of thick, buttery glaze drenched over tge tops of them, and if you're lucky enough, running down all sides of each donut and underneath or outwards drying into thick little chunks of splendid nibbles of glazed icing for when everyone's eaten them all but you're just CRAVING a weee bit more of that amazing glaze, so you open that empty box and have some more of their divine maple-flavored glaze that remains inside the box and the wax paper 😋😚<chef's kiss> ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Special mentions for Patrick, who makes such superb mocha lattes for me (personally, his hot ones are the best in the 'Ham), and to Hannah, who makes THE most excellent iced mocha lattes in the 'Ham! Simply yummy!😋

Everybody needs a HERO⭐️ Will and his team have perfected their product and it’s hard not to go out of my way just to snag one of their amazing donuts. Hands down the best in town and my all time favorite is blueberry cake doughnut followed by the strawberry or the pistachio! I love their new expanded seating area as well and it makes it easier to bring both kiddos with me!

Love this shop for so many reasons! Donuts are so delicious and fresh, though the owner isn't afraid to venture out and try new ideas and flavors. Awesome donut shop! I’m a big donut fan and really enjoyed my visit. Everything was very clean and fun. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Safe pandemic food handling practiced! Donuts were delicious. Highly recommend.

Their donuts are great. They are expensive but really good. Worth the treat. Awesome. Their lunch is just expensive. Paid $12 for a Tiny burger and maybe 8 fries. It was good but I guess we all just have too much money in our pocket.

This is certainly not an ordinary doughnut shop. The prices are fairly high and the doughnuts are fairly high quality. I had a doughnut and cup of coffee. The coffee was great and the doughnut was good but not good enough for me to even remember what kind it was. I prefer a more ordinary doughnut and, though the coffee was great, the atmosphere here is not relaxing, I probably won’t return very often.

It was a bit over priced for them to have gotten my order wrong. It was one doughnut off, but it was one we wanted. You're looking at a little more than $30 to get wrong doughnuts. Oh and they didn't have fruity pebbles like you'll see in the pictures. Tasted like an average doughnut, nothing special.

Their fried bologna sandwich was amazing, it has to be the best I have ever had! Their donuts are also wonderful and their customer service was exceptional! We will definitely make a point to stop here any time we find ourselves driving through again.

Fabulous Labor Day morning at Hero Donuts! I appreciate they were open on a holiday, as not a lot of places were. We got a peach fritter, salted maple donut, mini strawberry malt and a sausage/egg/cheese sandwich. The regular donuts and fritter were HUGE; the "mini" donut is the size of a regular anywhere else. All four items came to $17, so it wasn't a cheap morning but it was GOOOOOOD food. Everything had an original taste, was sweet without being overpowering, and was true to the description. We took our orders to-go and ate at the park across the street. Wonderful experience!!

With delicious brioche donuts, and an ever-expanding menu of quality breakfast and lunch items, hero donuts is a one-stop shop for quality. It feels as if they do not add anything to the menu until they perfect it, a process many other places should learn from and follow. The donuts are more like pastries than your traditional donut. If you've not tried it, it needs to be the next location on your list!

I wish I could have given this place a higher rating, but I wasn't able to try their doughnuts. I was really disappointed. They were out of doughnuts. We did however decide to try their lunch options. We tried a single cheeseburger, the spicy chicken sandwich, and the regular chicken sandwich. The sandwiches come with a bag of Golden Flake chips. I must say, the bread/bun option is the star of the sandwich. They are made in house and have a mild sweet note. My favorite sandwich was the spicy chicken sandwich. It was just the right amount of heat. I would order again but this time I would add blue cheese. I think it would elevate the sandwich. Very clean, cute location right across the street from the park. The restrooms were clean and so was the sittting area. Enjoy!

Do yourself a favor - get a dozen doughnuts, or more, and then get ready to eat them and be amazed. They've got standard types (Boston Cream, Glazed, etc.), but they also have unique and wild creations that are only available for a limited time. But that's good news, because it gives me an excuse to keep going back to see what's new.

Wow! A charming donut shop nestled within a quaint village-like community that's conveniently located across from a mentally and physically stimulating park, making it a great option for families with small kids. Although the donuts were "no joke amazing," the breakfast sandwich was equally decadent and having a quality cup 'o joe was hard to beat. I definitely would recommend this spot to anyone interested in high quality yummyness!

Excellent Donuts! The vanilla creme filled donut was the best I've ever had. The overall quality, flavor selection and presentation is amazing. But be warned, the donut holes were a bit dry and just OK and the fresh squeezed orange juice was a bit watery. They are very proud of their donuts and have priced them accordingly. If they brought them down to the $2 and under range, I'd give them 5 stars. That said, I'll be back, just not as often as I'd like to go. When a family of 5 has to drop close to $20 for just 1 donut a piece, it puts it out of range for a regular destination. I WILL be back to try their more reasonably priced hamburgers and chicken sandwich someday. They looked delicious. Update: the burgers here are excellent and the crispy buffalo chicken sandwich is amazing. No really...it's worth fighting the often tight parking to grab lunch here.

The strawberry donut was very good but everything else was ok. The fluffy brioche dough they use is amazing. Flavor was just lacking. Such as the cinnamon donut. I think they just sprinkle cinnamon into the dough. The decor and area are adorable. It's just very trendy and but could step it on the food offerings in the flavor department.

Whoa. I didn't expect to like this place but now I know why its sooooo popular! Not only are the donuts FANTASTIC, but the sandwiches are amazing! Loved the burger. Loved the chicken sandwich. Loved the breakfast sandwiches. The staff was SUPERB. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a fun breakfast, brunch or lunch spot. Everywhere else in the area usually has a LONG wait for brunch whereas Hero Donuts had a short line with quick, kind and helpful service....whereas everywhere else in the Homewood area is usually an hour wait for brunch! Do yourself a favor and GO.

Best Doughnuts is Birmingham!! I love the yeast dough that they make. I also love that they only put the sugary stuff on top. I absolutely hate when doughnut shops double glaze ...it’s way too sweet for me. Anyway, very unique flavors and fresh. Yum!!!

I rarely leave reviews but there was no way I couldn’t leave a review after tasting the food. I got breakfast delivered trough doordash I have never enjoyed a bacon egg and cheese sandwich as much as I did. The sauces really make everything so much better. Although I got it delivered the hash browns were still crispy. So good!! Great job!! Can’t wait to actually visit.

Neat local donut shop. Great selection of donuts. Coffee was hot and fresh. Dine in or take away. Limited parking in front and plenty on street around the building. Take away window so no need to go inside. Nice small public park with children's playground across the street. Park was clean and tidy. Small stream on one side. Walk the park or sit and enjoy your tasty treats. The experience is best when shared with a friend.

Doughnuts were decent. Ive been spoiled by a 40 plus yr old doughnut shop back in Michigan before moving here last yr. But they are good. The wife had a breakfast sandwich which should have been way hotter than it was for the wait we had for it. Kind of a bummer because I've been looking forward to trying their burger and that took away from that need. I will say they have some damn good hash browns though.

I've had donuts from 6 other local places in Birmingham and these are THE BEST I've had yet. They're quite large yeast donuts, very fluffy and airy yet they still feel substantial with each bite and not too greasy. It's fun to watch the donuts get glazed, sometimes one at a time for specialty flavors, and you can tell they handle each individual donut with care. The place is clean and has several tables, as well as very nice bathrooms. They have some other menu options such as breakfast sandwiches and different drinks. Staff was friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be going back when the need for a donut strikes!

Man this place is good. The donuts, fritters (the apple fritter was the best I've ever had), breakfast sandwiches, and the sausage rolls were all super good. I can't wait to come back and try a burger!

Why haven’t you eaten here yet?! Doughnuts are amazing and the Hero Burger is probably my favorite in Birmingham. Some of my faves are the classic, Nutella, pistachio and raspberry filled. Fillings are homemade. The homemade pickles and sauce on the burger are so good! Staff is friendly too and they always remember the regulars. Just a heads up, customers order at the counter and then find seating.

Great burger! H&F imo is the best burger in ATL. Hero’s was surprisingly good. And its budget friendly, $8.50 for a double. They were out of most doughnuts by the time I got there, but will definitely be back and looking forward to satisfying my sweet tooth!

Hero Doughnuts is a fantastic place for breakfast and lunch. Their doughnuts are wonderful, but I order the burger more often. It's easily one of the best in Birmingham. The fresh baked buns make a huge difference. Service is always friendly.

We’ve supported Hero’s since they were a pop up. Excellent drip coffee and insanely delicious donuts amid a sparkling clean environment. Although, I’d like to know why the cashier always seems unhappy as she’s one of the first people folks will see in their day.

I had the fried egg and cheese as well as the bourbon pecan pie donut. Listen.... I had heard the food was delicious, but that was the best fried egg and cheese I've ever had. I don't even know what type of sauce was on it, but it was sooooo good. When I got home I popped the donut in the microwave and it was pretty good too.

Unique place with fantastic doughnuts and equally good coffee. They have a lot of interesting flavors, and it's right across from the park so it's the perfect place to stop for a treat. Their chicken sandwiches are also very good and worth trying if you're nearby.

Tried the burger today and a vanilla Cream doughnut. Both were good. The bun on the burger was fantastic but I felt the actual burger could have used a little more seasoning. There’s a great selection of fresh doughnuts and pastries. What a great addition to Homewood and got to love a thriving local business. Would love to see them add fries.

Wow! From the minute you walk in, until the minute you walk out, you will be amazed. The actual food menu is small but everything on it absolutely wonderful. The dining area is small, but the atmosphere is wonderful. They offer a very large assortment of specialty doughnuts, as well as the tradition glazed. The filled doughnuts are definitely my favorite. They seemingly use real, made from scratch, ingredients to create their filling--it's as if the fruit was just picked from the tree instead of some run-of-the-mill concentrated ingredients made to taste like fruit. You also get to watch the staff make doughnuts while you wait for your order which is really cool. They also had cold brew coffee and draft beer available. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. They were quick to serve their customers, even with some very large orders being placed. I can definitely see why they are #1. I don't think I'll be buying doughnuts from anywhere else any time soon. The doughnuts were good. Albeit a bit on the pricey side. But what was really amazing was the egg and cheese sandwich. They use some kind of condiment that is sweet tangy and spicy all at the same time. Quite good.

Stopped by there to sample their doughnuts, selection was a bit limited at 11:00 am. They looked good, a bit pricey but wanted to give them a try. The person behind the counter must have been having a bad day as he was very short and condescending. We bought just one doughnut and left, both of us shaking our head at the service. Maybe it's their schtick?

The donuts are good. That's it. I can get a whole meal for less than one breakfast sandwich here that tastes better. If you do get a sandwich be sure to ask for no pepper jam and no crack sauce. They both take away from the great taste of a breakfast sandwich.

Yummy! The only way to describe the goodies at Hero Doughnuts. From the oversized apple fritters and cinnamon rolls to the cake blueberry and iced strawberry doughnuts, we love them all. Wow! Excelent place. The food is incredible. The staff is fantastic. If you like popular places, this is the one, but be ready for a long wait if you get there at the same time of the soccer little league 🤪. We waited and the wait was worth. Sorry by the time we get our food we were soooo hungry that we didn't take any pictures of the donuts and buns.

$3.30 for a small, plain black coffee. THAT WAS ALREADY IN A THERMOS. If I’d known it was going to be $3 i would’ve went to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts to get something better. Their doughnuts did look good though. -- Update: Changing my review from 2 stars to 4 stars. I was not happy about the price of my coffee, but I do appreciate the response from the owner (see response below). Thank you so much and if I am in the area again maybe I will try something else from the menu.

This is THE BEST Donut place in Birmingham. The donuts are pricey when compared to national chains like Krispy Kreme or Dunkin. Most are $3.50 each. But the donuts are large, and very unique, and full of flavor! I would make a recommendation, but their flavors change seasonally, and there is always new stuff to try. I have loved every donut I've had there.

Try the fro-nut. Seriously. If you love icecream or frozen yogurt and you love donuts, try the fro-nut. You will have to eat it right away, but it's definitely worth it. In addition to that, they are also the only shop I've found in town so far that sells lemon cream filled donuts. Those two donuts alone are enough to die for. And you don't have to feel guilty about going their either. There is a park right across the way where you can get all your kids energy out or walk off those calories before going home.

Oh good GOD !! I thought KK hot now ‘s were decadent. These are amazing! It’s that kind of doughnut that you take a bite of ( the first time ) unexpectedly, and your eyes get really really BIG. Mmmm. I haven’t had a ton of flavors because I’m in love with my standard custard filled chocolate on top. But this is no ordinary custard. It’s got vanilla Bean flecks and there’s LOTS. and the chocolate on top? This is no ordinary chocolate either. There are a little round chocolate “crunchy balls”. The combination of the real vanilla bean custard and the chocolate crunchy balls makes me do a little dance in my seat when I’m eating the donuts.

FINALLY...Hero Doughnuts has opened up a location. I got hooked on these from trying a lemon one at one of the punk rock flea markets they set up at in downtown.
