Reviews of Continental Bakery
Very clean and welcoming employees waved at me at the door. Super comfortable atmosphere with sweets, breads, cheeses and sandwiches as far as I can see. Everything looked fresh even though I came in the afternoon. Very nice bakery perfect for the scenery here at Mountain Brook. It was like a bakery shop in Europe. Definitely brought back some memories well done. Shortbread Cookies tasted good.
I was like a kid in a candy store here! I’ve never seen a bakery quite like this one. From the decor to the food, everything was unique. I highly recommend the old fashioned cinnamon roll. However, I would pass on the ham and cheese croissant. There’s only a small slice of ham in a big ole croissant. But still a wonderful experience!
Continental Bakery has made the bread for the mini date nut cream cheese sandwiches served with the fruit and deli salad plate where I work. That alone made me want to visit and try a few items.
Cute little place with an entrance not too different from something out of Middle Earth with vines kept at bay just enough.
Once inside, I started looking at all the delicious looking treats in several cases and was quickly greeted by a young lady standing behind them. She told me the croissants were some of her favorites when I asked, then she pointed out the peach/blueberry muffins. The French Love Cookie caught my attention from its name and once she described it as like a wedding cookie, I definitely had to try one.
So, with muffin, croissant and love cookie in a brown paper bag, I returned to work where I polished off all three with a cup of coffee.
Everything was tasty, I liked the inside of the croissant more than the outside, which was just a bit dry. The French Love Cookie is much like a Mexican Wedding cookie, with less powdered sugar. This would be a good choice for someone that likes not so sweet desserts. My favorite was the peach/blueberry muffin hands down! It had blueberries all through and thin slices of peach all around.
Next time maybe biscotti and some macarons along with a cup of tea.
So many yummy items to choose from it's hard to pick just one so, I didn't! The butter croissants and strawberry/ lemon muffins were delicious. I also picked up #Ukraine flag cookies. At the time of purchase proceeds were going to assist Ukrainian refugees #fabulous idea
What is there not to love about fresh baked bread? But that’s just where it starts. The
Bakery is full of several selections of cakes, cookies and pastries. In addition, you can pick up soups, cheeses or olive tapenade. All the necessities for a picnic! Which is exactly what we did.
Very cute little spot! I stopped by on my visit to Birmingham and it reminded me of stepping into a bakery in Europe. The pastries are delicious and the bakery staff were friendly
Delicious little shop! The galettes, shortbread cookies, and cinnamon rolls were all very good. Love the take home food options. Will definitely be coming back!
This is such a cute little bakery with such elegant pastries, sweets, and cakes! The coffee is absolutely delicious as well and not too sweet. It feels very whimsical to go inside and then sit under the French awning. I love visiting and they offer day-old bakery items for 1/2 price!
Good breakfast items for a Sunday morning. Smaller shop with good vibes.
We found our new bakery. Husband has been looking for some authentic like French goods. Says they make the best baguettes he’s had in America. Such a cute store and plenty of options.
I have only been to the Continental Bakery one time but that one time convinced me that another visit is in my future. Don't expect to find only cupcakes, cookies and donuts. They have pies, pastries, bread and some items I didn't even recognize. Not one person complained about any of the items I purchased. All I heard was,"Mmm these are all so good."
Fantastic bread, croissants, scones, brownies, pies, and more. Their spelt grain crackers are amazing as well. Worth every penny! All made with high quality ingredients plus lots of love. ❤
8/13/2022, overcooked, but managed to eat. Normally, we have better croissantsand cinnamon rolls. The cookies were perfectly cooked. When they know their product is lesser quality for that day, I would hope next time they choose to inform the customer and discount the products not up to standard.
If a company can accept their mistakes, then yes, I will continue to support them.
A truly remarks bakery with fantastic treats and a cool location.
Excellent bakery with their own spin on classics. The crust on the apple pie seems to be made similar to a croissant. It's perhaps the most spectacular and rich apple pie I've ever had. I highly recommend trying whatever they're making. The setting, once the pandemic subsides, seems to be pretty cozy and would be a great place to have coffee on a winter day.
This place is dangerous! So many good eats. Everything I've tried has been delicious with a high level of attention and care to each item. Highly recommend!
Teas are sooo good, the macarons are amazing (especially the coconut! 😍), the espresso cheesecake was delicious, and the 3 cookies we tried were really good too! Will definitely be back to sample more treats! …
Nice little bakery in Mountainbrook; purchased an almond croissant - excellent; a ham/cheese croissant - above average; and a scone - average as I've had better ones in Homewood; a bit pricey but that can be expected given location and current times.
I love the bread at this place and pretty much everything else. The only thing that bothers me is the appearance of some staff members. I know, maybe I’m being picky but people should look their best no matter what.
This place is delicious! Their vanilla iced latte is amazing, and their many different pastries are worth a trip over! They were very respectful given the current situation, and very good at social distancing. Just give them a call, a
place your order, and drive up and they'll bring it out to your car!
Such a great spot. The sights and smells! We visited from New Orleans and this bakery is reminiscent of a French bakery with the quick pace and amazing pastries and bread everywhere you look. Service was excellent
All of the baked goods look really appetizing and beautiful, and the store has a really nice atmosphere. We bought a small coconut cake (very small about four small slices or two big ones) and two galettes. The fillings in the galettes were good, and the coconut icing was delicious. I don't think I've ever had galettes before, so I don't have a frame of reference. Maybe they would have been better heated? My wife and I both thought the cake was pretty dry and nothing special. The prices are definitely Mountain Brook prices ($40 with tip for our small order).
Found the pies to be too sugary and sweet for taste. Bit disappointed with the buttermilk pie.
Love their date nut tea bread.
Crossaints were a hit or a miss.
I visit this place only once in a while. The staff is friendly. My favorite are their shortbread cookies. And they're the only place in the city I've come across homemade buttermilk pie. YumE
First time visiting and everything was delicious! Definitely going to visit again soon.
Handmade delicious bakery goods in a beautiful old building. More expensive than a regular place, but well worth it for a snack or special occasion.
J'adore! This is the best bakery in Birmingham because it transports you to another place and time! Excellent food, service, atmosphere and Carole and her staff get 500 gold stars for their handling of the pandemic! The most fun I've had in years was socially-distanced latte-sipping and watercoloring under the awning with my grandmother while sitting under the ivy and listening to the accordions playing through the speaker system! C'est magnifique!
I could leave this review at one word: WOW!
But I won't.
The employees were exceptionally kind and helpful, the recommendations were spot on, I was there for a total of 5 minutes (they were super professional and quick), and boy... Let me tell you, the Petit Turtle Cheesecake was HEAVENLY. But wait, there's more! The chocolate truffles are also to die for. So rich and well done
I'll be back for birthdays and anniversaries!!
A true gem. Absolutely loved everything about this place and all the pastries are delicious. The ham and cheese croissant is amazing!
I have been a customer at Continental Bakery for 30+ years. It is a rare exception that we purchase bread from any other source. Today I attempted to purchase bread. There were 4 employees in the bakery and no customers. I was ignored for a number of minutes and then when I spoke thinking that possibly nobody noticed me standing there, Nobody turned around to acknowledge me or stopped their personal conversations. Instead with their back to me one employee raised a finger to indicate for me to wait. I then waited a minute or so and left. I have never encountered rude on top of rude any place like I encountered today. I still am giving 3 stars because we really like the bread.
Some people are not kind and almost kind.
Good place. open chair and table
The cookies and treats are all over baked—I’m a baker myself with discriminating taste— but I come for the sourdough whole wheat rounds. This bread is the best anywhere—the right amount of tartness with a soft moist crumb—- I have tried many times over the years to make sourdough bread—it is truly an art form!!! Absolutely delicious & nutritious, this bread is yeast free—only the true wild yeasts are used with whole wheat & unbleached flour & since my husband is allergic to yeasts—this is the ideal, delicious alternative—that we cannot be without!!
Watch out for overcooked sourdough—it actually tastes burned—we bought a quarter loaf at their regular price & even peeling off the crust did not help the burnt flavor!
Man this place is so cool. Felt like I was in Europe inside. Pastries of all kinds that seem like they’re made daily, deli food and great coffee
The hours posted are never correct. Drivin here too many times to find out the doors are unlocked after opening time or locked before closing time.
Friendly staff. Excellent food. Just a few tables to nibble on your tasty treats, soups and sandwiches.
Service was a 5, the almond croissant was a 3. It was quite dry, which made me sad.
I've been visiting the bakery for more than 20 years and everything I've ever gotten there is delicious. The service is always friendly, as well. They have been amazing during the pandemic, too - strictly enforcing the mask ordinance, offering a walk-up window outside, limiting how many people come in at once, etc. The bakery is a true Birmingham gem!
Carole is my friend and I’ve enjoyed both The Continental Bakery and Chez Lu Lu for decades, even worked at the bakery for a time! Best chicken salad sandwich on focaccia and so many other yummies that I love and enjoy as often as possible! Thank you so much, Carole, for years of friendship and delicious food!
Since this is one of my favorite bakeries I feel some type of way making this post. I have to say first though, I have loved this bakery since the first day I tasted some of the delicious baked goods. The almond croissants and the French donuts are divine. I have taken several friends here, well the ones I know would appreciate the flavors that this bakery can produce. Well, I went this morning and this was the second time that I received a cinnamon roll that I believe should have been thrown out. I was more so disappointed because I brought a good friend with me this morning who had never been here or heard of the bakery. The last time I ended up throwing the cinnamon roll away and unfortunately, this time I had to as well. I do not want to take away from the wonderful experiences that I have had from Continental and I hope this is not becoming a consistent issue with the freshness. I remember going to get some shortbread cookies for a friend's birthday and I mentioned it to the young lady assisting me. I wondered why it was taking so long to get the cookies but she had taken the cookies and boxed them with beautiful ribbons and everything. That was priceless. And I appreciate that. I love supporting local. We try to do that with all of our purchases with local places. So again, I am not happy to say this but I am starting to become less and less encouraged to make a purchase. Also, the past two times the customer service has not been what I was used to. I know we are going through some terrible times right now and we can get tired. However, it's the customer service and delicious goods that kept me coming back. To slack on both leaves a less desire and probability of returning and even less of suggesting to friends.
Re: I would be more than happy to speak with you regarding the matter. And thank you for offering the opportunity.
Friendly and quick service, delicious selections. Seating is limited as is parking but was very delicious. First "bowl of coffee" I have ever had...it was PERFECT
I’ve been coming here for years. The best sourdough in the world! I spend a good deal of money here almost monthly.
The only reason it’s not 5 stars was from what happened today.
I ordered a loaf to pickup at pepper place, and was given the wrong item. No big deal, mistakes happen. However, I’m a good 40min commute from the bakery, so I had to drive all the way back there when I was very busy today to begin with. Over the phone I was offered a gift certificate for the trouble, which is a lovely offer and good customer service, I happily accepted this and felt good about knowing that my business and my time, was valued, since I had to drive out there again to make the exchange.
Well, when I get there the older woman working was incredibly rude and literally rolled her eyes at me as if the mixup was my fault. I brought back all the items that they gave me by mistake, unopened. She willingly took them back, and handed me the order I was supposed to have received this morning, and then waved me out of the bakery.
When I asked about the gift certificate she said she knew nothing about that so I had to talk to the girl I spoke to on the phone. She then tells me that the gift certificate no longer applied since I picked up my original order.
So, needless to say, I felt pretty stupid going all the way over there on my own time when I already went to the market earlier today, returned the items I was given by mistake (which were actually worth more than what I had ordered, now I feel like I should have just kept them), and walked out with just a “whoops, sorry, you can go now”.
This experience makes me pretty sad because I’ve loved this place, and I’ve been coming here regularly since I moved to AL 5 years ago, and I always bring my family when they come to visit. This place is very special to me, and it sucks feeling undervalued as a customer today.
Cozy atmosphere, tasty pastries, and very friendly and helpful staff
Pumpkin pie was ok nothing to write about, but the biggest disappointment was the Chocolate Expresso Cheesecake it didn't have any coffee flavor. It was like a regular cheesecake with chocolate on top. Prices are way too expensive for the flavors
Love the fact that the workers insist that you wear a mask 😷 while in the bldg. The presentation of pastries bagels, etc is presentable to even the average customer. If you like breads and sweets like I do. This is a nice diverse place to come. All are welcome. …
Oh my goodness, amazing is all I can say! Everything we had was absolutely delicious. Best bakery in the area by far.
This is by far my favorite bakery ever! I was just there this past weekend and they had the coolest gingerbread man cookies and they were wearing face masks! I recommend this bakery to everyone! You will never be disappointed with Continental Bakery!
This place is amazing! We visited for years while my daughter attended UAB. She has since moved to Boston, but we sure do miss the experience of this wonderful bakery. I would love to have the recipe for the Gorgonzola Walnut loaf you offer! It was the best I have ever had!
Continental is one of the best bakeries in Birmingham. Their shortbread is unbelievable, their cheesecakes are decadent and delicious (especially the peach cheesecake!), and their pastries are always flaky and incredible. Besides their delicious goods, their staff is just a delight. They are always helpful and kind, even when we take 10 minutes to decide what we want! If you are anywhere near Continental and want a treat, you won’t regret stopping by!
Great local bakery. They have the best white sourdough bread in the city. Their french sandwich loaf is always good as well. The peasant garlic soup is one of those soups you just crave sometimes. Brownies are good, too. Crowded on Sunday mornings. Check out their day old breads in the morning--half off and perfect for most things!
My cake was dry. Cookies we're alright. Thumbprints and peanut butter cookies were pretty good.
Consistently good bakery items! Great sweets and treats too🤗 …
Beautiful pastries! Expensive but worth it!
I went to the Continental Bakery once a couple of weeks ago for tea and a pastry and have been finding excuses to go back every since. So far I've tried their breakfast pastries, sweets, tea and a few bread varieties and haven't been let down. My favorites are the almond croissant, foccacia, white bread, and loose leaf tea. I stop by randomly for a breakfast consisting of an almond croissant and a side of tea or to just grab a loaf of bread for the week. I just never knew how big of a difference there was between store brought bread and fresh baked bread. It's like light and day! The staff is also wonderful and just so patient. I get so overwhelmed with all of the choices and like to take my time to see what they have. I think I'll actually stop by soon to sit outside and get some work done while I have a pastry and some tea. Look at me, finding yet another excuse!
FYI:
They have outside seating which is great for this time of year.
Take a gander in the day old bread basket. They always have so much to choose from!
Lovely Bakery! Loved everything I got! From peanut butter cookies to carrot cake! The overall atmosphere of the bakery was so cozy and intimate. I will come again!
A lovely bakery and coffee shop. Can get quite busy at times and the limited seating is more scarce when the regulars are around nursing coffee with one person to a table, but that's not the bakery's fault. The pastries and sandwiches have all been wonderful! I'm trying to work my way through them all...slowly, of course.
Everything in this bakery is in the range of delicious to divine. Yummy bakes and awesome coffee.
I most recommend the Galettes, all of them are simply delicious.
We are regulars here! They have great croissants, bagels, treats and coffee. We love to sit outside on a pretty morning!
This place is adorable, everyone was friendly and the food was great! My only complaint is that they need to work on their chai latte recipe. It was like a big cup of iced milk with some cinnamon or something sprinkled on top.
What a treasure! Great European style bread including wild yeast and sourdough, plus offerings of fine patisserie. Quirky, fun, and helpful staff, charming interior, and a good flow of service. Great location to sit outside, relax, indulge in a croissant, and watch brookies.
What's not to like?
> $3.50 for a filled croissant shocks me, e v e r y time. I am used to European prices where you can get a croissant for ~$1 in most of France and for $1.50 in most of Germany.
My favorite local bakery. Great coffee and pastries. They also make great sandwiches but are limited with the ingredients they offer (e.g. no eggs). I buy my free range eggs and some other organic groceries there. They probably sell the best eggs in town. I couldn't even find the same quality ones at whole foods. I take most of my out of town relatives to this bakery and highly recommend it. The atmosphere is so cute and French, I don't know how they managed to create it.
We ordered a few slices of cake and lattes and every bite and sip was perfect! Only thing I didn't like was that if you pay with card, they make you walk to the other side of the register to sign it. The employees stare at your receipt like hawks to see how much you'll tip them. A bit uncomfortable but not that bad.
Stopped in for bread but they had sold out. That really sums it up....the bread is so good they sell it all.
The wild yeast sourdough is my go-to loaf.
I love continental bakery and I go there probably every week. They have the best bagels in Birmingham for sure. Today, there were at least 3 hairs in my sandwich which was very gross. But besides that, I love it.
$$$$$ surprisingly expensive for a "regular" bakery. I'm guessing they sit on some of the most expensive real estate in the city
The people are extremely nice! Also their ham and jalsburg cheese croissants are AWESOME they also supply to other restaurants in the area. everything is a great price. they also sell their day old bread for half off! So that way you know they bake the bread daily!
Pastries were great!
Would not choose their coffee.
My wife and son had breakfast here most every day. Good coffee and pastries.
Continental Bakery is nestled in English Village. I love the climbing greenery and the creaky door, the hand painted signs, oil painting wall and the generally imperfect perfect French decor. It transports me immediately back to Provence and the sweetness that is a room full of baked goods. I'll be honest- for a while a few years back I had stopped going because I fully believe if you are going to be a bakery you really shouldn't be selling things that are over-baked or under-proved. I am pleased to announce after quite a few recent visits that every single time has been consistent and good. My go-tos are the French Peasant Loaf, the challah bread on Fridays and the almond croissant for any ol' day of the week. The only thing I would love to see happen is an improvement in the coffee situation. Well done Continental- we will be back!
This place is the best! So many wonderful options. My kid loves the shortbread cookies.
I had an early morning drop off at the airport and needed to kill some time before meeting my family for lunch. I parked myself here and enjoyed a very nice stay. More than anything, I was happy to have a place to sit and wifi. I spent a very peaceful hour and a half here.
I also bought a few treats to enjoy. While the chocolate truffle was rich and absolutely wonderful, everything else I tried was only ok. The chocolate hip cookie was pretty good. But the Macarons were definitely a disappointment. One had icing that was overly sweet (Salted Caramel Latte) and the other was over-baked and crunchy (Rosemary Grapefruit).
"Cozy" is an understatement when more than 3 or 4 people are here, but the service is friendly and enthusiastic. They provide a great selection of baked goods as well as more obscure treats like local krauts, slaws, and pickles. The location is unfortunately out of the way for me, but I will stop by whenever I'm in the area without a doubt.
Not bad. I only tried the baguette. Close to real( needs more salt ) but maybe that's what the locals prefer?
The raspberry croissant had a good crust and cheap filling. Don't get that.
Definitely coming back.
Need more baguette!! Num num num
I've tried many bakeries and coffee shops all over Birmingham, but the Continental Bakery leaves one of the best impressions of them all. The coffee is great and all the baked goods are fantastic. Definitely one of the best.
For such a tiny place amazing food and service. Packed this morning but everyone was smiling and getting the job done. Fantastic
Best bagels I have ever had in my life. And the wild yeast sourdough is the most local food you can find anywhere-- the yeast starter is from red mountain. So delicious and amazing quality.
If you are buying bread from somewhere else, you are getting it from the wrong place. This authentic French bakery is the Birmingham establishment that any true gluten connoisseur could not miss. Many of the high end restaurants in town get bread from here daily because they just can't make it any better.
The closest thing to Paris I've found. Croissants are a favorite quick pick of mine. I get the cinnamon and sugar or the ham and cheese. They will make a croissant or bagel sandwich toasted. Had a turkey and brie with mustard that was absolutely decadent. Can get discounted breads, eat day of for best value.
Delicious cookies! Vegan snickerdoodle cookies were thick, but moist. Pecan sandies were better than store-bought.
Beautiful, old world style French bakery that will keep you coming back for more. Located in a quaint, cute part of town surrounded by many other fun shopping destinations. Come with the intention of spending a long afternoon here, sampling this and that confection.
I love this bakery in English village. Premium quality, delicious, artisianal hand crafted products and excellent service in a charming setting. I moved here up at Smith lake a few years ago from Boca Raton, Florida
*****
Small, cute little bakery. They have a large assortment of desserts and pastries. From macaroons, pies, tarts, cookies and truffles, you won't be disappointed.
Lovely bakery. Every item is authentic in their menu.
Loved their hot coffee latte and large chocolate dipped shortbread.
Many bakery choice. Best in morning or they might sell out of your favorites.
I don't know about the food but their employees were awesome when I ran out of gas about a year ago. They passed by, saw my car, noticed my daughter walking to Mr. Patel Vulcan mart. They helped her with getting gas in a container, brought her to our car, put gas in car and only wanted a thank you. My Angels. I can't remember their names but Thank you!!!!!
My new favourite way to spend Sunday mornings in Birmingham.
We grabbed a little bit of everything: pie, galettes, croissants, muffins, biscuits, scones...
Grab yourself a cup of coffee and a pastry and people watch outside.
They have the best bread and tasty bakery treats in Birmingham. My favorites are the sourdough (wheat and white) and the pain au chocolate.
Cute and rustic little bakery + coffee shop. Perfect place to grab a cup, muffin or sandwich, and relax for a few minutes.
My absolute favorite bakery in Bham! I always buy a bag of their coffee when I am going out of state.
Love the atmosphere and the mountains of bread and ooh those cookies are tasty. Highly recommend a loaf of that wild yeast sourdough, will not disappoint.
they got the best bread
Cute little bakery - lots of authentic charm is a scenic location of Birmingham. Lots of bread, pastry, cake, and pie choices. A worthwhile stop!
Absolutely love it everytime we go. Amazing pastries and the friendliest staff. A must stop on anyone's visit to Birmingham.
So wonderful, they had more than I expected, and it was all amazing. The lemon bars, macarons and the chocolate torte were delicious.
Best chicken salad!! The blueberry pie was excellent! And I couldn’t leave without a loaf of sourdough bread!
The fare here is consistently tasty.
I cannot however praise the manner in which I was are greeted 😞...it's disconcerting to have staff make eye contact with you three times and not ask if you can be helped …
Delicious and reasonably priced.
The best bakery ever...nothing anywhere comes close...sourdough, peach and blueberry pies, incredible almond croissants...❤️❤️❤️
Good food. Bread is made fresh daily which is reflected in the price. Cookies and breakfast pastries are delicious. Worth stopping by.
Probably the best bakery place in town. Very professional, clean and mist importantly delicious.
Delicious bakery and coffee prices are about the cheapest in town. Can’t beat an everything bagel and a coffee to get the day going.
This Bakery, while a little pricey has great drinks, service and more! Great tasting food and a wonderful atmosphere are worth it.
Beautiful bakery, highly recommend the almond croissant
Delicious baked goods and a very helpful staff. Stop by for their wonderfully decorated shortbread cookies!
This is as close to a European Patisserie you can find in the 'Ham. The tarts are ridiculously tasty!
SOOOOOO FIRE DEFINETLY RECOMMEND, VISITED OVER GOOGLE MAPS FROM OTTAWA CANDA TANGER OUTLETS AND I LOVE THE PICS
Best fresh baked goods Very pleasant place to have a croissant and coffee.
Excellent food & atmosphere. They don't post bread prices though & don't seem to know bread prices themselves.
One of the best little bakeries in the Birmingham area. Unfortunately seating if often hard to come by in the morning.
Love to stop by or hang out here with my daughter! Great breads, pastries & coffee! Quaint atmosphere.
Excellent, excellent pastries and breads. Staff helpful, too. Recommend highly.
Best baguettes in Birmingham. Been going there for 15 years. Always good. The other breads are just as good.
Artisan baked goods and good lattes. Whats not to like?
A little bit on the $$$$ side, but its a nice treat.
I absolutely adore the cute setup very rustic with a lot of options to choose from
Such a pretty little bakery. Great prices on day old bread with a good selection usually
Smells amazing... The chocolate croissant is the best. Just wish it had a little bit more chocolate.
My favorite patisserie in Birmingham! Quaint and cosy. The dessert and coffee is top notch.
The bakery is high quality and the atmosphere is unbeatable. They also carry some gourmet cheeses, etc.
The best cup of coffee I've had yet! And the macaroons made in house are great.
Italian blueberry cheesecake, everything homemade fresh every day, loose leaf teas, great coffee, salads and french cheeses, and of course every kind of bread
Excellent bakery, with extremely friendly and helpful staff. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.
Great bakery! The natural yeast sourdough is best I've ever had.
Beautiful pastries and French bread
Great bakery, excellent selection, excellent staff
Neat place. Great staff, fresh food, good coffee. Definitely beats Panera any day.
Love this place! The owners are just wonderful people ... it was closed and they let us in and gave us a tour and a loaf of bread ... delicious
One of the best bakeries in town. Great selection and staff!
Absolutely delicious French bakery ! Such a gem and so delightful !
The bakery good were hard. So order tea or coffee to dip it in.
The sweats were good but prices were a little high
Really delicious desserts and the best Italian cheesecake I've ever had!
Amazing pastries and great customer service!
Brings back that old days feeling good food nice staff.
So good!!
Good coffee, sidewalk seating, dogs walking by. Maybe just me, but I like the combination!
It was a cute cozy place with a rustic look to it. The food was out of this world, so worth the price.
They have the best customer service and macaroons! You won't be disappointed!
Wonderful hand crafted pastries! Quaint setting definitely worth checking out
Great atmosphere, helpful staff, and good coffee at a low price. Best cafe in town.
Pricey, but the only place I have found good bread in Birmingham
Great little bakery/cafe with a very friendly staff and warm and welcoming vibe.
Get the Olive and feta cheese baguette. It is phenomenal. Bought 5 loafs.
Wonderful selection, friendly staff!! The macarons are yummy
Great guys and staff
Wonderful, everything looks delicious!
Everything here is great. Usually pretty quick but it's worth the wait if you have to.
Beautiful bakery. The goods were delicious!
Great selection, good coffee. Nice neighborhood. Rustic but lively
We picked up some chocolate croissants that were amazing.
Fresh bread (baguettes, sourdoughs, ciabattas...) and the best croissants in town!
I love this bakery..also love the diverse workforce...wonderful!
The best quality breads in an awesome atmosphere with unparalleled service!
Wonderful, real food - tastes like my mother's kitchen!
Cute bakery. Tried the croissant. They also had other desserts, and drinks.
Great baked goods and coffee at a great price, but bad WiFi

My family has been visiting Continental Bakery since the early 90s. It's tiny and is stuffed full of the best baked goods you'll find in BHM. The staff, many of whom I've known throughout the years, always know their stuff and are happy to answer any questions or suggest that unique & delicious thing you didn't know you needed. Highest recommendation.
I come here at least once a week! Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I’d recommend their hot chocolate, cappuccino, vegan snickerdoodle, and their toasted garlic bagel with cream cheese…but you really can’t go wrong with what you order because everything they offer is fantastic!
(Translation) I usually buy there because I like their pastries. It is not cheap because it is a fine pastry with European tendencies. They have a large number of cheesecakes that look delicious. They use a lot of seasonal products so you can try new things every time you visit.
The brownies are good, the muffins are very rich. Overall I recommend this bakery.
I repeat, it is not cheap.
