Good donuts and pastries. Cakes are fine. Prices are reasonable, especially compared to other local places. Biggest problem staffing. The sales people are super friendly but there is usually only one, maybe two people working per day and most seem to be to be perpetually in training. *Don't bother calling, chances are you'll be be put on hold forever.* There's no automated system to tell you holiday hours and there is no social media presence to check either. Best bet is to physically show up and hope they're open and have what you want.

I got the red velvet cake for my sons birthday and omg it was delicious and not overly sweet. It was my first time purchasing anything there and I had a great experience, and will definitely return. Also the staff was super friendly and made sure all customers were being served might I add the place was busy and the staff wasn't much but they made you feel welcome.

We’re glad we chose this spot as the cake (and the not pictured dozen of donuts) were delicious, moist, and not overly sweet. I previously gave Woodlea a 5 star review because I've never had an issue here. I've ordered quite a few cakes in the last several years and they've always looked exactly how I wanted them to and tasted delicious. Unfortunately, today I had a terrible experience. I ordered and paid for a cake for my sons graduation party on May 18. The party is today, June 26. I ordered the cake over the phone, so I made a point of going into the store on June 6 to discuss in person exactly what I wanted. I had to email images that I wanted on his cake which I did on June 9. Immediately after I sent the email, I called the store to confirm they had received the images and to again make sure they knew exactly what I wanted. They informed me that the images would be an extra $20, which I happily paid. I received a phone call today at 8:16am that they had never received my email and needed the images. I informed that I had sent them and discussed the cake with a gentleman named Charlie. The girl apologized and said she would get the images when Charlie came in and my cake would still be ready for pickup at 10am. My morning plans took a little longer than I expected so I did not pick the cake up at 10am as originally planned. I received another call at 10:24am from Charlie stating that he couldn't find the email or the images and asking me to resend them, which I did as soon as I hung up the phone. He told me my cake would be ready for pickup at 11am. I was annoyed, but didn't want the cake rushed so I arrived a little after 12 to pick up my cake. It was nothing like I had described it. I asked for 3 super hero symbols on either side of the cake with graduation caps on each symbol. Instead I got 2 symbols on either side of the cake, one on top and one on bottom and a plastic graduation cap decoration on the top of the cake. To say I'm disappointed in such an understatement. To make matters worse, there were 3 staff members present. They all acted annoyed that I was annoyed the cake was wrong. None of the employees apologized. One employee offered to take the cake to the decorator to be fixed but there was no way to fix it. When I told them that I didn't understand how none of them even acted like they cared that my cake was incorrect when I had gone to such lengths to make sure that it was perfect, one employee actually said to me, "Ma'am, do you want me to cry for you?". To say that I'm absolutely disgusted by the behavior of these employees moreso than I am annoyed by the fact this came is wrong, would be a gross understatement. I had 4 cakes preordered and paid for for a party I'm hosting in August. I asked for a refund and canceled the order because I was so bothered by these employees callous response to what was ultimately the bakerys mistake. If this review was based solely on today's experience, it would be a 1-star review but because this place has always been amazing, it's a 3. EDIT: I spoke to the owner, Charlie, a few days after my cake issue. He was very apologetic and offered to reimburse me for the cake (which I refused). He also stated that he would talk to the employees that were present about their poor attitudes and that he hoped, especially given our history of positive business that I would give them another chance. I did sit on that decision for a few weeks, but this past Saturday, July 17, I went in to order some donuts and give them another cake order for August (the order I had originally had them cancel and refund). I could tell that the employee working remembered me, but also it was clear that they had honestly had a conversation about their behavior. The young lady smiled, was polite, and patient as I reordered 3 birthday cakes and helped me make decisions about size and flavors, etc. Given the 10+ years of perfect cakes and positive, helpful employees, I am hopeful that there won't be anymore issues, and so, I am again making this a 5 star review. You still cannot find a better tasting cake anywhere and theirndonuts are delicious too 😍

I heard about this place while working at Hopkins. Everyone was so excited to hear that I lived so close to it. So I started visiting there. Everything is very good and fresh. People are friendly. My son has a special order on his birthday every year. One year his order was messed up. My son was so disappointed. The owner redid his order and delivered it to us directly. Impressive! We enjoyed hearing his backstory and a little about his family. It was like being with real family and friends.

My daughter lives in Rosedale, I can't drive anywhere 😫 my husband will ask me about going to see our grandchildren just so he can come to Woodlea Bakery. We’ve eaten our fair share of donuts and find all of them to be fairly the same (local bakeries, grocery store bakeries, Dunkin’ Donuts, krispy kreme, etc). THIS bakery proved that superior donuts do exist! Amazing texture, not overly sweet/frosted, and it keeps for several days! They also have a large variety of other cakes and pastries that are also very good! And don’t skip on the massive donut!

This place gets 5 stars because they provide a quality product, at an affordable price (very important these days) and the staff/servers are very friendly. There is also a wide variety of pastries desserts, cakes and pies. Also, their quality is consistent. Try out the German Smearcase or the oversized donut. They also have mini individual pastries like mini cannolis. The hours are expansive as well. It is my favorite bakery in the entirety of Baltimore City and Baltimore county

I have not visited Woodlea backery in quite along time (over 10 years). Its was to my delight the quality of their merchandise has not declined. The best strawberry short cake I've ever had. If your in the neighborhood I would strongly suggest picking up a cake or three.. Trust me you will not be disappointed.

My family has been going to this bakery for many years(20+) and the cakes, doughnuts, Danishes and pastries are the best. Their birtday cake is so moist and delicious. The icing is sweet and sugary , not greasy like a lot of other cake icings. I have been going to this bakery for many years and this is the best birthday cake and icing recipe that they have ever had and for the most part Woodlea's cakes have always been great, but I feel this recipe now is the best. Also a few years ago Woodlea sold these cinnamon buns on the weekends that were like the ones from Cinnabon but they were so much better, they were discontinued , maybe you all should consider bringing them back? The cheese/ fruit Danishes, mini carrots cakes, twister doughnuts, black bottoms and strawberry shortcake are the best. If you want a bakery with a large variety of delicious mouthwatering baked goods Woodlea Bakery is the spot!

I placed an order so far in advance for a cake that the women who took my order had to ask the manager if it was okay to take orders that far in advance. Yet when I called as I was leaving my house to pick up my cake I was told that they were running behind and they wanted to know if I could pick up my cake an hour later. This is no big deal to me I work in food I understand it gets busy but my concern is that they did not reach out and ask this I had to. I told them this would not work because I have somewhere to be and yet when I got there my cake was still not ready. The man who made my cake was so so kind but the women who helped me up front was not. She had an attitude and when she put my cake into the box didn’t bother washing her hands or putting gloves on. The cake is lopsided and there are splits in the icing. When you order a cake for a special day you want it to look good. Very disappointing.

Woodlea Bakery made our wedding cake in September (yellow cake, strawberry filling, butter cream icing. Do yourself a favor and try it!) They were incredibly friendly and provided wonderful service. They designed our cake exactly how we requested. Our cake was delivered and set up promptly and professionally. Not to mention the fact that this is the most delicious cake I've ever tasted. I've been to this bakery many times and never had anything that was not delicious. I've also _never_ seen the staff show any true rudeness. Casual, yes, rude, no. But I have seen customers being rude to staff, and I have seen customers being quite rude to each other, and on one occasion I saw a staff person intervene; in a way that could, possibly, be considered rude; when, on a very busy day the customer on customer rudeness was slowing down the customer service. And that, I saw as a courtesy to the rest of us.
