Reviews of Montego Bay Bakery
Their food is the real deal! I have been looking for a real Jamaican/Caribbean restaurant since I moved to Baltimore. Growing up Caribbean you always look for a place that reminds you of home in the way the food is made and this place is definitely the truth! West Indian comfort food! The Saltfish and okra is ridiculous the king fish is ridiculous, they also have the sweet treats for you too- the currents roll, the rock cake and bulla, bun and cheese! you need to pass through!
Chicken is getting cooked to hard. But food is very good.
Great chicken patties, 5 star. Must spend $10 to use credit card. Bring cash for less. Where's the gingerbeer?
Excellent service, friendly staff and good food, had me some cornmeal porridge which brought back good memories also surprisingly they have a good vegetarian and vegan menu, I had two so far, very good.
I go here for the home made ginger juices. Thay are delicious.
They have bun and cheese!!! Ox Tails are always perfect and the Curry Goat is amazing. I believe this is better than Judy's
One of the greatest Jamaican restaurants in Baltimore I love there food
I been coming here for over 20years food is always good. A must try.
Food is banging just need bigger portions for the price paying
Can I get my plantain please and it seems like even when you can the order in you still have two wait a long time
My jerk chicken dish was oh so good. For someone with a healthy appetite, I became fed up of eating after some time, if you know what I mean. Yet I couldn't stop.
Love to patronize my people but where are the prices 🤔 for the food it should be posted cause it's feels like u can be cheated the food has some favor but the oxtails was to boney love the other things like the drinks and the bun and cheese in the fridge area and that's on display …
Yummy and fresh! Recommend to go early if possible!
First impressions make the deepest Impressions. I had recently returned from a bday trip to Jamaica
& was still feeling the want to have authentic Jamaica food & at the recommendation of my Aunt I drove over 30 mins there only to receive subpar customer service from the lady at the counter which I later found out was the owner. Her attitude was very blah, short & very "make your order" didn't feel welcomed at all...the food was pretty good the best I've had her in town in a long time, even though the cabbage & jerk chicken could have been better the Ox tails and plantains were perfect. Very clean establishment & the guy ( brown skin 40ish) that passed me my food & ice cream was very pleasant...would I return? Yes, maybe she was having a bad day.
Very busy on a Friday night yet the cashier was pleasant and efficiently handling orders.
Customers were great and gracious about abiding by the number of persons allowed in the allocated space.
Reminder: Everyone working in restaurant and especially those in kitchen, food handlers and preparers need to keep appropriate masks covering face and nose at ALL times and never pulled down from nose or resting on chin.
When ypu want to know that you've had real Caribbean food flavored with great conversation and friendly staff, this is definitely the place to go!
Food still great but make sure you are clear on what you want! The new cashier a tad specialized and mean
This restaurant is well organized and clean. The King fish is always fresh and tasteful plus the prices are very reasonable. I never tried their bakery products but they look delicious. Also they have a great selection of dishes to choose from very authentic.
Yummy! I had curried goat and my daughter had oxtails. Small serving is generous. We couldn't finish and it was really delicious. I have also had the patties and they were great. Owner gave me a sample of rum cake. I don't consume alcohol so I couldn't touch it. It looked good and smelled strongly of pure rum so if that is your thing, definitely try it. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other baked good. Cleanest looking Jamaican restaurant I have visited in Park Heights.
Some of the best Jamaican food I’ve tasted. I got the oxtail and curry goat combo which comes with rice, veggies, and plantain. Nothing less than amazing. I also recommend the jerk wings! 💯 …
I'm just gonna let you know from the jump this review bout to be bias I'm Jamaican.....know let me tell that I really find nothing wrong about this restaurant matter of fact , it was suggested to me by my fiance. I tried multiple Jamaican places before and the price never really matched the amount of food you get or the quality of food you were getting, but here everything matches and taste wonderful they open late and close early and I understand why, they have their own loyal customers they don't have too worry about competition......my bad back on track long story short your not going to feel like you wasted your money or could've went somewhere else and if it's your first trying different cultures they are a good place too start
Prices :$$
Food:👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Complaints: none
The food is fair I have been there 2 times and it's a Jamaican restaurant that I am not trying to rush back and get anything else. The food is a little costly the restaurant has always been very clean also they have a guy outside playing music if you love Jamaican music and he's only there to draw you in.
Great Carribean food, moderate price and fast service make this gem a must visit whenever u want that authentic island flavor. The desserts are also on point try the rum cake.
Their cuisine is authentic, fresh and delicious! However they really need to have the dining room open all day. All walkin customers were squeezed into a window bar that could only seat 4. I had to seat by the door with my purse in my lap as there were no hooks under the bar to hold it. I am sure they don't necessarily want all patrons dining inside, but not having a proper seating area deters out of town patrons from stopping at all. We drove 1 hour to visit Montego Bay Bakery and we were disappointed that we could not eat our wonderful hot meal inside.
I patronize this establishment once or twice a month. Usually it is during lunch. I get the same thing every time. Stew chicken which is $5 during lunch time. I also would get 6 jerk wings which was a dollar for one party wing. Now one party wing which is a half of chicken wing is $2. Needless to say I stopped getting the wings. Hopefully, prices will go back down where ever they get their wings from so they can drop their prices on the jerk wings.
The food us always great. I love their beef patties and coco bread. I've been eating here for 25 years
So, first off, my review is from a vegan standpoint. Not many options if u don't eat meat or fish. Even the callaloo option is prepared with saltfish (which I know is one traditional version), but come on! It's 2020. More and more restaurants would be wise to add more plant based options to their menus if they're not already on board. I've been to dozens upon dozens of Jamaican restaurants over the years and this one, currently is not one of my favorites. The only options available for me to eat are cabbage, rice and peas, bammy, plantains(These are only prepared when ripe, which is not always even though u get charged the same price for just cabbage, rice and peas without the plantains. It's about the same as a curry chicken meal too, for sum reason). The veggie patties with cabbage and coco bread are vegetarian but are made using butter. I do like the Pineapple ginger beverage they sell. It tastes extra gingery like I like. Honestly, the best thing about this spot to that they have a cool little outdoor area with a stage in the back and they host various live performances. There wuz even one hosted a couple of weeks ago. First one since the Covid-19 pandemic shut things down. It wuz awesome! Everyone respectfully adhered to standard social distancing protocols and were able to have a great time and enjoy a live reggae show. That wuz the only live reggae event many of us had been to in a long time. It wuz just the perfect atmosphere to feel sum good vibes. The food served wuz curry/jerk chicken/oxtail, so a majority of the people who attended the event seemed satisfied with the food options. I ate in advance, knowing there may not be anything available for me to eat at the function. Good thing I did. All in all, Montego Bay Restaurant is a pretty popular spot in West Baltimore with loyal customers who have kept them in business, probably for a few reasons. Again, it's not one of my favorite spots for vegan Jamaican food but I will most likely visit again if they host another event.
The food is good, and Miss Marie is the best. The location, not so much. If this restaurant was in a different area, they would really benefit more IMPO. The elements surrounding the location are questionable, but nobody bothers you, it's just the elements as I've stated... I would still recommend getting food from here.
I love love their food, i drive across town to get my food, all the food is made fresh, ans they have plenty od things to choose from. My fav is the stewed chicken and the curry goat...yummy
Best Jamaican Food on The West Side
The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is sometimes although rarely they forget something that you ordered. Tastewise the food is 6 stars, simply outstanding.
Montego food is delicious. Buying a dinner on Monday at 12 p.m. I am assuming that they use the food from Saturday. My cabbage was overcooked and my jerky chicken was also hard and overcooked. Other than that Montego food is delicious.
GREAT PLACE! Delicious food. "Small" Jerk Chicken was very filling and incredible with cabbage, rice and green beans. Very consistent and the staff is terrific. Must try this place, so very good!
Best Ox tails I've had in along time. Make sure to get the Carrot cake on your way out also. It was a nice way to finish my meal....
I LOVE THIS PLACE
This business been around 30 years I went to the anniversary this summer and enjoyed every minute of the show put on with Jamaican Veterans. Being in business that long is telling you something. I love the food and enjoy it every time I come in. Best Caribbean food on the East Coast.
I've been coming here for years. This restaurant is a staple in the community. They've remodeled and have an area to host small events. The food is always fresh and never a complaint. The oxtails are the best in the city.
The curry chicken is so good. Everytime I go to Bmore it is a must that I stopped there. Was there yesterday and tried the salmon patty. Very very good nice flavor. Need a restaurant like this in Harrisburg.
5 stars all the way! I have been going here for over 20 years...and I go there often. I can throw down some good Jamaican cuisine in my own kitchen but when I am tired or just don't feel like it...Montego Bay Bakery is my kitchen away from home. Excellent Jamaican food, drinks, baked products and service!!!
One of the best jamaican stores I have been to since moving to MD over 10 years ago. I live 40 mins away but will travel to get their food. It's a a treat that reminds me of my mother's cooking when I am feeling homesick.
Friendly prompt service, good conversation and good food, I'm heading backoer there for a fish dinner.
As a man raised on Jamaican food who can also cook many dishes, this place is as authentic as a commercial establishment can be. The food is plentiful and moreish! Customer service could use some improvements...
Amazing place, with wonderful people. Just being there reminds me of my time in Antigua. If you have never had Caribbean food, I recommend that you come here and have your first bite of Caribbean cuisine.
Got my wife a Jamaican rum cake and she loved it.
Also had their fresh squeezed guava juice and it was missing from my life. I need it now.
Love their for. It tastes just like real back home cooking.
Food is absolutely delicious. I only give 3 stars because of very small amount of oxtails with no meat on them. Smh. Too much for $15
Lovely place that offers very tasty food at good prices. The staff is friendly , professional and quick with their service . The location is very convenient and the atmosphere pleasant.
The bakery goods are the best around. No one has a better beef, chicken or veg pattie. The Soup can be hit or miss. I unfortunately don't like the cooked food at all.
So my experience WAS BEYOND AMAZING. My food was correct, tasty and fairly priced. SUPPORT THIS BLACK OWNED BUSINESS YOU WONT REGRET IT.
The authentic Jamaican food when u far from home, the spot is spotless ,friendly host n a nice atmosphere
Just good food
I've only eate the patties and the carrot loaf/cake. These items seem well prepared. However, the staff is slow to receive orders and the neighborhood is sketchy.
The only place in Baltimore that offers an authentic Jamaican Experience in Cuisine, Service and Atmosphere... be sure to try their Tropical in-house Made Ice Cream and Baked Goods
Me & My Husband First time Trying out the Oxtail Platters & ALL WE CAN SAY IS SMACKING DEFINITELY WILL EAT HERE AGAIN
This place handles your food with respect and understanding which lets me enjoy 😉 eating here as often as I do. …
Nice older woman at counter, curry chicken, cocoa bread rice and peas and beef patty were all very good
I enjoy the jerk wings ...very nice establishment...I will be glad when the din in service is back open...they play music and have tvs
Park heights has the best concentration of Jamaican food in Baltimore. All have a specialty. Montego Bay is the best Bakery, the soup is also outstanding.
The food is always green here💯👍 …
Very good jerk chicken I asked for it real spicy (they gave me extra pepper sauce and jerk sauce on the side) 13 dollars well worth it. Nice portion I will be back
