Reviews of Alon's Bakery & Market
Bought the raspberry chocolate moose cake. So yummy! The place has so much more to offer. I wish I had more time (had to rush home before rush hours start) to explore other options from cheese to bakery to sandwich. They all looks so good. Will definitely come back to have brunch.
The pics don't do this place justice. The Best salmon and veggie sandwiches. I love their choco and oatmeal raisin cookies. Their hummus and deli sides are amazing. Soup is awesome! It's a fantastic day when I con go to ALON!
First time at Alon's, Saturday morning breakfast done ✅. Ordered twice roasted almond croissant, blueberry muffin, chocolate croissant and cappuccino with oat milk. The croissants were just amazing! The coffee was ok not so great. Busy place on weekends. But would definitely go back to try the other stuff.
The dessert here have always warmed up my heart. I used to work here and everything still taste amazing. When I told my husband that I was coming here, he gave me a list of desserts to buy my caring how much they cost.
Yes the price went up since I was working there but hey, everything in life is increasing plus Alon wants to become one of the best bakeries out there.
I heard that he just opened a new one at Phipps Plaza mall. Just wanted to say thanks for the experience working there and congrats on the new location.
You went from opening this location in 1992 and moving your way up in 2021 with 3 locations in total. I’m a 1993 baby and my husband is 1992 so I understand how much time you spent working hard and becoming something great!
Warm croissants, fresh baked pastries and bread, so good. My Sunday morning go to wherever I’m craving a good croissant and cup of coffee, which is pretty often. They have so many great items to choose from. The lunch sandwiches and soups are delicious too. Parking is kinda crazy sometimes but even if you have to park and walk a couple blocks it’s worth it. Gets crowded so get there early or just enjoy the buzz of everyone around.
Everything was impeccable. We had the key lime tart, the new opera tiramisu, and a whole assortment of macarons. Very happy with the service and the feel of this place, would absolutely go again.
Went for the first time yesterday and must have gotten the rudest employee out of the whole bunch (the older Black gentleman with the glasses)- he was so condescending when I asked about items on their menu. Apparently the online menu is NOT the same as the in-person menu, and some of the items on the in-person menu aren’t things you can order, they’re just things they keep in a cooler and if you don’t see it in front of you, you can’t order it.
However, the breakfast burrito was delicious and I overheard multiple people saying how good the coffee is! It’s a really cute place so I’m down to give it another shot.
Love the fresh baked goods and the cakes are always a special treat. Staff could use a bit of help with being more customer friendly. They tend to be a bit short and snarky. Don’t ask too many questions or you might get an eye roll.
I've enjoyed Alon's salads, soups, sandwiches and desserts for decades. I returned twice last week after a long hiatus to meet with friends. The food remains remarkable and memorable. I had the Thai chicken salad. The following day I had the vegetarian eggplant sandwich and couldn't resist a cranberry scone. There is very limited indoor seating and some outdoor seating. Alon's does a brisk to go business. There is a small free parking lot with relatively quick turnover because so many people are coming in to pick up their orders. There's also street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. The range and quality of the desserts is fabulous and there is also a deli -type area with loads of scrumptious to go selections.
If you're looking for a relatively authentic European/French bakery (best pastries and baguette I've found in Atlanta thus far), then look no further. Add to that, coffee better than the chain nonsense, top draw patisserie delights, an imported cheese selection larger and with prices comparable to Whole Foods/Dekalb Farmers Market, an NYC style deli sandwich/snack counter and various other imported yummy items. We're lucky to be local but it's worth the trip from anywhere in the Atlanta metro area.
This is one of the two locations in Atlanta. We ordered online for pickup.
Decorative and themed interior design that promotes the experience of an European market.
Overall, the food was delicious and savory.
We also purchased a piece of layered chocolate cake with white icing. The confectionery was delightfully moist and luxurious tasting.
At first, we were confused since we were nit aware of there being two locations. Then customer service was unhelpful and delayed.
Despite our experience at the location, the quality of the food was fabulous despite being pricey. They have an exuberant amount of options and from a bag of chips to a macroon to a meatball to wine.
We really like going to this place. We mostly buy breads, cookies and desserts from them and they all are pretty good. They have a small cheese and wine section along with a prepared foods section, a sandwich counter and other canned stuff, etc. They are being strict about Covid - allowing only a few people in the store at any time and you have to wear a mask to enter the store, or buy one from them for a dollar. Kudos to them for trying to keep everyone safe. They have adequate parking and a few outdoor tables to sit and enjoy.
We were so excited to find this little local bakery/ deli. We are huge fans of fresh bread and baked goods. There is a little bit of everything in this place including some hard to find Italian treats. There was bottled wine and a nice cheese selection that looked to be thoghtfully sourced. They offer a good number of pre-cooked food that you could order from. It looks like they have a good coffee and tea selection as well. There are countless jellies, jams, honey, mustards, oils, dry pastas, candies and more. They have indoor and out door seating if you want to eat your treats there. We got a loaf of rye, some pasteries to have for breakfast and some desserts. The rye had great flavor but the crust was soft and chewy. The pasteries had nice flavor but weren't super crispy like we expected. The deserts were presented beautifully but the flavor was just ok. We wanted to be in love with this place and we did find it nice but we feel it's a little pricey for the quality of the offerings. It should be noted that we did not try any of the pre-cooked food, coffee or tea so we cannot say how they are but the selection looked very nice.
The market portion is very nice and it sees a lot of patronage from the locals, especially people there for the breakfast hours. They have a wide variety of things for sale, including baked goods, cheese, wine, an open make your own pasta bar and even a butcher? Overall, very impressed with the variety, however the prices of certain things are through the roof, such as a croissant for almost 4 dollars. You can find decent deals but don't come here looking for your typical grocery market prices.
Lovely market with bakery, great cheese case, semolina pastas, preserves, prepared food case as well as desserts. They also serve sandwiches and soups. My favorite item so far though has been their amazing banana nut bread! Super flavorful and - I don’t like this word either but can’t think of another one at the moment - moist!
The original Alons Bakery. People are very friendly and helpful
Get their creme brûlée! The sugar top is perfectly crisp and satisfying to break into the creaminess of the dessert. Would come back just for this.
Food was decent. Customer service was not. Didn’t get his name, but the black gentleman “helping” at the sandwich counter was incredibly impatient and brash. Then accused us of not paying for our sandwich and soup even though I pointed out that my husband had just paid. I understand Alon’s weird system of ordering in one line and paying another is a bit chaotic and hard for employees to monitor, but that’s definitely not the customer’s fault. Alon, fix your funky system. It doesn’t create a relaxing customer experience
I love there food. I use to work at Whats The Scoop before Alon closed it. They had the best gelato and i also worked at Alons. I love the portebello mushroom sandwich and the peanuts noodles omg to dite for. You guys should really think about shipping your orders. I moved so i cant come as much as i would like. Everything i had was great.
Mannn loook.. I had an amazing sandwich from this place! Very good food. Looking forward to going back. I had the Kale salad, Mediterranean chicken skewer and the Turkey sandwich with sprouts and avocado. I don't know the name of it. But it was goooooooooooddddddd! Staff was nice, friendly and helpful 😊 …
A little pricey, but worth it. Great selection of cheeses and homemade sweets, plus some unique dried goods. Small but solid selection of wines. The bakery is amazing, and always smells delightful. I love the gruyere scones and plain croissants. Coffee is also pretty good. I enjoy stopping by here after a Saturday morning workout at Pure Barre.
Fantastic locally owned bakery. We enjoyed very much the muffins and cinnamon stick. The service was excellent and price is reasonable.
One of my favorite local bakeries. I love everything about this place. From quick pastry bites to Breakfast options, Cakes, breads, market
Great little neighborhood bakery/deli. Food is fresh and tasty. Could use more seating for eating on-site.
Been coming here for years and consistently good food- although service lately hasn’t been. I do prefer this location than Ashford Dunwoody as it’s more intimate and in an actual neighborhood.
The best bread in Atlanta by far!! Also the best quality European cafe I've been able to find in the entire South
Very cool bakery. Tasty sandwiches and treats. Be careful walking around the perimeter of the store. It cost me an extra $90 in stuff I had to have but did not need. Idk, the $30 Armenian cherries are amazing in my Old Fashioned.
Probably more of a 3.5 stars. I ordered the midnight cake... chocolate cake with white icing and macaroons and the desserts were amazing but the service was terrible. Everyone working there seemed like it was a bother to help anyone. They weren't as bad with me, just dismissive but other people around me I would say they were sarcastic, short and almost rude. It was the holidays and I know they were probably burnt out but everyone is just trying to enjoy the season. The patrons they were rude to weren't even being bad to them. Just asking questions. It was a bit shocking bc there are definitely other places that have nice pastries and baked good around so it isn't like they are the only place to go.
Great stuff! Alon has very nice pretty much everything. I recently had their veggie sandwich. It was very good, moist and had lots of fresh veggies in it. The baked goods are also very nice especially the croissants. My only recent disappment was the Passover things I ordered. They were ok but nothing special. VERY EXPENSIVE!
Great bread. Pro tip, slice the sandwich loaf yourself. They slice it too thin. Still 5 stars tho
I shop here all the time, and love the food. My only problem is in the deli they put containers of condiments touching the food. Many people do that, but I hoped with Covid, people would be more clean. Love their food, though, including the bakery and the deli. So worth a try if you haven't! Nice outdoor eating area, too!
Warm pastrami on rye. Bread is fresh and pastrami is delish. Great selection of sandwiches, salads, and don’t get me started in the pastries, mmmmmm mmmmm good!!!!
Love this spot for coffee and sweets. There are some tasty sandwiches here and a good selection of wines. Lots of little knick knacks, too - everything from mints to olive oil to ice packs. Killer macaroons!
Alons has been a family favorite for over decade. Best croissants and pastries in Atlanta. And the "midnight cake" is unbeatable. Really. Give it a try :)
Absolutely delicious desserts. High quality, French baked goods are well worth the purchase for a special treat. Will definitely be returning!
Great bakery but it would be a stretch to call Alon’s an Italian bakery. and not so pleasant
Wide selection of ready to eat sandwiches, entrees, and sides. The beef meatballs were fantastic! Also has excellent coffee and fresh baked pastries. The blueberry crumble is the perfect amount of sweetness!
Way better than the Dunwoody location. Somehow this Alon's has escaped the Atlanta determination to be something you are not and has remained a New York style neighborhood deli. No frills, just good food. Somewhat expensive at $7+ a pound for prepared foods, but the ease of taking home delicious sides that I only have to heat far outweighs $22 for 3 sides to serve 2 people. The only downside to the Morningside location is there is no wine staff, which is somewhat difficult when trying to choose from a large selection of unusual imports.
Best bakery, this family has soul and their food/bakery reflects the love
Everything I've had was delicious. Prices are a little on the high side but worth a treat every once in a while. We love the chocolate mousse with raspberries cake. Also, if it's your first time visiting, ordering and order pickup can be a little confusing.
Ive been coming to this amazing bakery, for a long time but I feel as if they change the bakers 2 months ago. I’m still coming every week hoping that my creme bulee is back. Don’t get me wrong they still have them they’re just not the same anymore. I’m not the kind to complain but I don’t think I’m spending any more money in them.
This is one of the best kept secrets in ATL! Delicious everything.
Very tasty baked goods. Mini chocolate chips cookies are addicting.
My first visit to Alon's to pick up lunch to go for the family. We really liked the market and bakery items, which we also purchased during our visit. We were not impressed with the speed or accuracy with our order. We ordered 5 meals, and 2 sides of sausage which we did not receive despite asking if it was there. The item container the person said was the sausage turned out to be a soup. Then as we are handed bag we noticed one entire breakfast platter was missing. This item took an additional 15 minutes so all of our other food just sat there. They were not apologetic at all and they seemed annoyed at us because they forgot our meal and we noticed. The food was decent but pricey. We might shop at the market again, but that's about it.
It's little pricey, but it's worth it. They have nice sweets and Mediterranean style foods.
Downside is super small parking lot for this location.
If only bakeries could all be this good! Great bread, a grand selection of cheeses and wines and excellent light fare and coffee. Well worth the time to check it out!
It is definitely an expensive place, but you get what you pay for, at least for the most part. I recommend their roast beef and chicken pesto sandwiches respectively. I also enjoy their breads, pastries, cakes, premade foods, etc. Basically everything here is good, just be prepared to spend more than you might be used to for their goods.
A little taste of Europe right in the heart of VA Highlands/Morningside. Highly recommend this delightful bakery. Plenty of nut based milks to choose from. The best chocolate croissants & almond croissants I’ve had in the US. Easy dinners or lunches to pick up. So many wonderful protein and vegetable options. Unique wines, crackers and cheeses. This place is glorious. Go and enjoy yourself at Alons!
Great ambience with a large variety of baked and cooked stuff.
This place is stupid good!!! I go with the peppered turkey sandwich multiple times a week, & every time I order it I tell myself that next time I’ll try something different the next time. Guess I’m a creature of habit because that hasn’t happened yet 😂. I will say that it is CONSISTENT every single time! When I’m feeling frisky I get the chocolate pecan cookie to wash it down. Bottom line, you aren’t going to go wrong at Alon’s. Fresh, professionally executed, & ding dang delicious! 10/10
Best bakery & market ever. This is a one place stop and you will be truly satisfied whether coming for dessert or crafted drinks or even a meal. The hot chocolate will definitely take you to heaven on earth and the wedding cookie will have you singing praises. 🥰 …
Pricey, but the quality of the food was worth the cost. Really fun for a Saturday brunch (we walked over after visiting the Morningside Farmer’s market on Saturday morning), there’s a bunch of small patio tables to sit and eat, although it got filled up really quickly. Definitely liked the heirloom tomato salad and the baked goods
Great food, slightly pricy, but worth it. Service quality hit or miss, often little to no eye contact or friendliness by those working behind the counter.
They have great food they have a great pastry and bread and dessert but the customer service work in the bakery is really rude I wish they can improve the customer service they do makes a lot of money they should have better customer service
Have been a customer here for 30 years. Still one of the best bakeries in the city with great cheese selection, small gourmet market and prepared food. Soups and sandwiches are awesome as well.
Fantastic spot for a quick picnic lunch to take to the park. Loved their roast beef sandwich as well as their lamb. Good options for juices and some lovely cookies. Def a good spot for lunch.
Everything from here is fine (as in okay) but not so fine as to justify the prices. These kind of markets/delis mystify me in their ability to sell food at such exorbitant prices. It's like Whole (Paycheck) Foods but on a smaller scale. It's for middle class folks to go and feel they've a superior choice than the hoi polloi.
Where do I begin. This is a little slice of heaven. Could be a big slice depending on what you order. My favs: Sourdough bread and a Napoleon pastry. The cheeses, OMG. How about a fresh made deli sandwich? Need something already made for dinner? Got you covered. Want some pastry and a cup of coffee to enjoy at tables. Then stop reading this and go partake.
Picked out some great bread/crackers and cheese for a holiday party, great service and selection as always! Andrew in the cheese area was extremely helpful and everyone at the party were really pleased with the selections he made for me!
Love this place!! Breads and deli. Fantastic and tasty!!
The best Caesar salad I’ve ever had in my life!!! The Bresaola Panini was also delicious. Everything tastes fresh, the flavors moonwalked on my taste buds 🤩🤩🤩 …
I love the selection of pastries they offer. I especially like the chocolate croissants. Everything is fresh and delicious
I wanted to love this place, but after two separate experiences with rude staff I won’t be going back. They need to consider using stickers with bar codes at each station you can order from, so that they can just be scanned by the cashier. Otherwise, you might be left to feel you’re lying to them when it comes time to pay and they ask what you got.
Very happening spot with a great selection of European treats. I had a small glitch with my cake order and it got fixed immediately. Thank you Dominic for your great hospitality and attentiveness. Alons is a legacy and you withheld there standard , I am very thankful.
The absolute BEST chocolate chip, pecan cookies ever! Period! I drive very far to get these cookies and they never disappoint.
So happy to have this market in the neighborhood! Excellent cheese selection (Cypress Grove's Humboldt Fog cheese for the win!), delicious bakery items and yummy sandwiches. Will be back again & again.
It's always delightful getting baked goods from here. The midnight cake is the perfect sweetness and chocolate levels, the macaroons are pretty and delicious. No stale baked goods here!
Good food, good service... Not inexpensive
Best croissants outside of Paris! The prepared foods are scrumptious—reminds me of the high-quality delis I’m NYC.
This place is awesome for any pastry lover and the Galette de rois/Pithivier/King Cake (However you know it) is absolutely amazing. I've only had the raspberry/almond cream frangipane, however, I'm sure the plain, hazelnut and apricot are all delicious. I've managed to work this thing into my everyday diet. I will have to cutback at some point, but for now I'll enjoy.
You literally want to grab everything in there but be ready for the big cha-ching!
Learned of this place because a place I worked at got cookies from here. I came here for the cookies but they have so much more. Sandwiches, pastries, and ready made meals. Being a bakery, the items here are fresh and the service friendly. It's a nice little place with great selection. The parking like is a one way kind of deal and can get pretty busy during busy times.
If you're not buying your bread and cheese from Alon's, you are greatly missing out. Their cold food section (pastas, salads, etc) also have a large variety tasty and healthy sides.
Cozy outdoor seating. Plenty parking. Fresh food and variety of desserts to choose from.
Alon's is an extremely popular local market, but I was not overly impressed. The place was packed and parking was scarce. They do have a decent selection of boutique grocery items. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful. But I purchased a loaf of sourdough bread and some pastry to take home and was underwhelmed with both. Based on what I've read, I wanted to love it, but, meh. Maybe I need to try a sandwich next time...?
First time visit (from PA) and this is an awesome place! If you can't find something here to eat, you're not looking very well! The bakery had an awesome selection; the salad selection - wow! We purchased taboulah, edamame, and a green bean cherry tomato salad - so good! Got a cinnamon stick and chocolate croissant . . . waiting to eat those later. This was a great experience and next time I'm in town, I will definitely be back!
the best desserts and yummy treats. We always order our celebration cakes from Alons and it's always consistently delicious.
Pastries to die for. Cakes to kill for. Worth every penny. Coffee is good, but not as life changing as the baked goods. They do have savory food and a full cheese bar. Check it out. Just note they like what they sell, so you'll pay a premium price. Also bought pasta from here, it was delightful and truly elevated our dinner.
This place is a staple of VA Highlands. Arguably the best cheese selections in Atlanta. If you don't know exactly what you're looking for, the staff have a ridiculous knowledge of their cheeses and can help you find exactly what you need. Pastries and coffee are quick and delicious breakfast options and they have cases full of all kinds of delicious prepared options for lunch and dinner. Be prepared to wait in line for a bit if it's a peak hour because this place is not a secret.
I've been coming to Alon's since it was next to Rocky's pizza and a small convenience store. It's been a long time and I keep coming back!
Alon's is a staple of the Morningside area and there's good reasons why: the pastries alone are reasons to go here, no joke. They also have cookies, fresh bread, jams and spreads, cheeses, wine, coffee, pastas, sandwiches, pre-made meals, and treats! The prices can get, well, pricey depending on what you want but there are no wrong choices here. Everything I've had has been good and it's consistently made well. One of my absolute favorite places in Atlanta.
A gorgeous little shop chock full of French pastries, and baked goods, gourmet food made fresh and and so many delicious other goodies. A great place for a Sunday morning scone as well as a place to pick up something special when entertaining.
Great selection of cheeses, fresh deli items, and amazing pastries. Worth the carbs and the cost. I highly recommend.
Just bought some of the best cheeses I've ever tasted. Sampling each type really made it a lot easier to mix and match a variety of textures and flavors. Stephanie and Rachel were so pleasant and totally helped guide me toward selecting what I, and hopefully my guests, would really love. Excellent service and selection.
Alon's feels like an Atlanta intuition. Great place to grab lunch or dinner for either eat in or to go. It's a market and sandwich shop in one. Their bread and desserts are fantastic. Alon's is one of my go to places to grab dinner when I don't feel like cooking or haven't gone grocery shopping. It's also a great place to pick up food items for a gift basket like gourmet chocolates, wine, baked goods, cheese and crackers.
Outrageous Friendly Healthy Environment 🥁 …
Staff was very helpful. Even one staff ran out to us while we were leaving the parking lot thinking we might have dropped a change purse. It was someone elses. Most food items looked very tasty. It turned out that our big order of Chistmas cookies were not as tasty as we had hoped. All seemed to have a low sugar content. Perhaps the clientale likes "healthy" cookies. Also a bit dry. May come for other things in the future, but not for Christmas cookies. A bit expensive. $15/pound.
So many great things to say. This place is incredible. Whether homemade soups, sides or entrees. A few favorites; caprese sandwich from cooler and asked for it to be pressed like a panini, the seared ahi tuna is the best value ever and the sauce is delicious- get it thinly sliced and the small chocolate chip & pecan cookies are simple but so tasty. The staff is so friendly and even will know your name if you come in consistently. Such a nice touch.
Best bakery in town - really love their sandwiches and their French pastries. Croissants and pain au chocolat are delicious.
One of the best bakeries I have ever been to. This wondrous place serves food such as cookies, sandwiches, salads, and breads. ( It's all good!!!) I go there for lunch sometimes, and their soups and sandwiches are divine. Wonderful and family-friendly place. 5 stars!!
We hired Alon's to cater the cocktail hour of our wedding reception and we couldn't have been happier! They were easy to work with to plan the menu and gave helpful suggestions. They arrived exactly on time to set up and made a lovely display for all of the food. Probably most importantly, the food was fantastic! Especially the Asiago stuffed potatoes, the salmon sandwiches, and shrimp skewers. I would definitely hire them as caterers again!
Alon's had a huge variety of aged cheese, wine, and local jams, preserves, etc. I did not try any sweets as they appeared to be out more towards the latter part of the day. A bit pricey--I would not shop here weekly. But this is a great stop if you're craving something out of the ordinary or a bit up scale. Have a great selection of cheese ranging from Gouda, Manchego, Ossau Iraty, Maple Smoked Cheddar, and much more. If you're driving fast you may miss this spot. It's in a plaza like location. The GPS directions may be a little tricky depending on the direction you're coming from. Customer service was decent--employees are knowledgeable about products. Would return in the future for a day out on the town.
Great old world atmosphere with lots of tasty treats.
If you have a hankering for tasty desserts, cheeses and other gourmet treats, check them out you will not be disappointed. Their tropical cakes and lemon squares are amazing!
I've been coming to this Alon's for years, since I was a kid. I've since graduated from double chocolate cookies to more adult pastries and food, and they have nailed it every time. Hard to go wrong with the food here, everything I've tried is high quality and delicious. The layout and ordering system can be a little confusing for first-timers.
Plenty of parking and a fantastic selection of tasty treats. Always new baked goods on offer and there's loads of other stuff (cheese, prepared foods, wine, etc.) to indulge. Their muffins and cookies are my favorite!
My favorite bakery in Atlanta. Everything here is good. Chocolate croissant and cappuccino are my standard. The sandwiches and take out deli are delicious! I never get any of the pre packaged candies and such though which just seem pretentiously over priced.
Our twists were a little burnt this day and i always visit a place i love 2x before changing my opinion but the first bad experience they were bitter. The owner must not have been there because instead of wrapping each twist individually the lady behind the counter took 6 pieces of paper threw the twists in and handed them to my daughter.i was really disappointed that she was treated this way vs hand wrapping each twist and putting a seal on each one. My family loves the presentation but did not get it that day, the burnt day. This was two weeks ago not today.
Great little store with the best chocolate croissants! Will have to stop here again when I'm in town.
Without a doubt--Alon's is the best bakery in Atlanta. Their sandwiches--for example, the Garlic Roasted Lamb with rosemary onion marmalade--are fantastic. They have great breads and pastries. Their cakes are delicious--not your "standard" bakery layer cake. Highly recommend their cookie bites. They aren't cheap but you get your money's worth.
So this place is not for the light of wallet folks or those who wanna watch their figure... this is the place you go when you absolutely want something incredibly delicious to eat or drink and you care not about the cost for the goods or your waist line.
I say this because, it’s not that they have or serve fattening/fatty foods, but I say this because it’s ALL sO-dang good, that you won’t wanna stop eating 😅 This place rocks! Seriously good eats found here!
I could get very piggy if I lived closer, so thank god for that, but I’ll be back as often as possible! Bet on it ✅
Amazing pastries and good choices for lunch, and had some of the best aged cheese I could find on my travels. Oh, and did I mention they have peach jam! Couldn't find anything GA peach but here I did!
Always amazing! Love to add to our prepared meal with many things. Definitely worth the price. The bread is fabulous. The Lamb samwich is my favorite. I do not hesitate to add a fabulous dessert. If you are a foodie....Alons is for you! As for the reviewer below, stick with Subway and McDonalds.
Alons is absolutely fantastic. Great food to go, bakery items and even groceries (to an extent).
Their catering service is unreal too!!
I honestly went to this place, because I saw it on a must go to coffee shop list for Atlanta. I was not impressed with the Taste of the coffee. I also got some macaroons that were subpar, and I didn't like that the prices for them weren't listed anywhere in the building. I really wanted to like this place, because the vibe is awesome. Maybe if I'd had some of the other food I would have enjoyed it more.
Great ambiance; excellent baked goods. A must-go when the kids are in town. Last time was during a power outage during covid restrictions (no more than 6 customers at a time) and we still loved it.
Wow - that's all I can say is WOW the food is so very good here, no matter what you get you will not be disappointed!
Nice open space with lots of natural light, friendly staff, great food, and interesting things to look at and buy for gifts or for the home.
Will definitely be coming back next time we are in town, very impressed
Fresh bakery.. Good Food but some of the staff seem like they're not wanting to be there.. every single time I've been here they give off a rude what do you want vibe and it really seems to take away from the experience of the rest of the store..
Cheese selection and mongers are the best in Atlanta. Great bread. Fancy French pastries. Soup, sandos and a prepared take out options. Lots of little items and foods and wines. You can rack up a costly bill pretty swiftly so you have to be judicious.
Before I get too far into this review, I just want everyone to know that this has been my favorite discovery during my coffee scene exploration. When Jaclyn first mentioned this place, I was excited because I hadn't been to a proper neighborhood bakery in Atlanta. And I've lived here for more than 20 years. And then I found out they brewed Batdorf & Bronson coffee, which made the anticipation that much greater.
So with high expectations Jaclyn and I proceeded to go to the Virginia Highlands location. Nestled in between some houses and some amazing local ships, Alon's Bakery is at first a very unassuming place. But then you open the doors, and you enter into a corner store style bakery where you can get just about everything. Coffee, bread, breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine , and so much more. Alon's has something for just about everyone, and ever since my first trip, I have been back there religiously.
Atmosphere- From the moment you pull into the parking lot, you get a very neighborly vibe. Once inside, the feeling continues as you're surrounded by everything that makes up a true neighborhood bakery. The smell, the setup, and the clean and open feel make this one of the most inviting places I've ever been to.
Coffee- Serving Atlanta's own Batdorf & Bronson, the coffee is what you'd expect. Delicious. Alon's Bakery offers the more common B&B blends, and you can't go wrong with any of them.
Service- Friendly, courteous, and always willing to help. One of the best things I can say is that no matter how crowded Alon's gets, the staff stays very patient and does not rush any customer. And somehow the lines are always moving.
Location- Sitting in the northern end of Virginia Highlands, Alon's Bakery is in a very nice and very friendly part of town. It's a perfect place to come grab a bite, grab a cup of coffee, and go for a casual stroll.
Legitimacy- With 2 locations that have been operating for 20 years, Alon's Bakery is becoming a mainstay in Atlanta. Serving known local coffee and serving as a go to lunch spot for the working crowd, Alon's is a very legitimate operation.
I ordered their baked goods tray for a catering order for my company. I ordered last minute at that. And they came on time, the baked goods were awesome, our french board members were even impressed. Would definitley order from alons more in the future.
Alon's bakery/deli/fromagerie/store has an amazing array of gourmet, imported, and freshly prepared items.
Let me start out by saying that the macarons here rival those from the famous Ladurée of Paris. I especially enjoyed the black current, chocolate, and my favourite - the almond (Marzipan) macaron. If you order sets of 9, they can be arranged in a really classy, black presentation box (at no extra charge, as of this review.)
We love the chocolate chunk pecan cookies, the wedding cookies, and the various pastries that we have tried from here so far. If you're a lover of fine chocolate that is not overly sweet, the chocolate mousse "cake" is dangerously addictive!
The selection in the cheese case here is incredible. I really wish that they had a staff person just to cover this area, because it can be a little more than overwhelming for someone who isn't a cheese expert, and might need help finding just the right cheese.
The service here is always very friendly, and efficient. The store is clean, and always really well stocked with what they do carry. Finding parking in the lot here can be bad so, we always leave the car where we eat lunch, and just walk over.
Alon’s is one of my favorite shops in town! I am from Italy and the vibe and the produce found at Alon’s remind me of home.
I recently went to Alon's Bakery and Market for a cake for my in laws anniversary. I purchased the opera cake and the pastry chef working that morning was able to write a message on the cake for me on the spot. I was pleased with the purchase and the attention to detail from working staff, getting the cake out of the display case, and the finished written message on the cake. Most importantly, the cake was phenomenal and so decadent. If you want a great cake, I would go to Alon's.
The bakery is very good. The fresh food is often too raw to eat - the chicken is infamously crisp on the outside and completely raw on the inside. I still love it for everything else. Sandwiches are quite good.
A great bakery but it's more than that. The cheese monger is always happy to educate and let you sample. The deli has some great selections if sandwiches and cold sides to try. I can't speak to the caffeinated beverages; just be sure to try a macaroon on your way (salted carmel is a sure fire win.)
May I have a chocolate croissant, 3 chocolate chunk pecan cookies and every other possible pastry. As a transplant from New York, this takes me back to the local bakery's that I would visit as a child. Whether you need an event catered or just have a sweet tooth, Alon's is the place for you! Enjoy and bring me a cookie too. :)
Everything from their morning pastries to the cheesemonger to the delicious cakes is perfect. The staff is knowledgable and friendly and their selection of morning pastries is a great way to start off the day. If you're just in town for a bit, or have guests over, Alon's is the perfect treat to make any trip special.
Alon's... How do I love thee. There are two places to get great bread in Atlanta - Alon's and H&F Bakery. I love Alon's ciabatta rolls and loaves and the brioche - it's buttery and slightly sweet. I can't be trusted with it. Seriously.
I usually go into Alon's for bread and leave with much more. Alon's makes delicious soups and sandwiches from scratch. Check the board - the offerings regularly change. It's also a convenient place to grab a cooked, refrigerated entree or side dish for dinner or lunch from the deli case. As for treats, I enjoy the Gruyere Crisps, Apple Normandy and their Mexican wedding cookies. Those cookies are so light, crunchy and sweet it should be a crime.
Maybe I shouldn't reveal my secret but Alon's is my go-to spot for host/hostess gifts at the holidays. You can get cookies by the pound, banana or pumpkin bread for breakfast or Alon's housemade take and bake cookie dough along with many other treats and festive platters.
Alon's is pricey for some foods but you get what you pay for. The quality cannot be beat. I've never been disappointed.
Impressive array of offerings but only for takeout unless you're just having coffee. Trying to dine there was difficult and you're strictly on your own. Some of the deli items were just average, but in fairness, I only tried a few.
Discovered this place while looking for a decent pastry/bakery and instantly became enamored . Sandwiches and pastries for every palate, but my person favorites are the chicken salad sandwich, Napoleon, and cinnamon twist. Excellent for brunches or afternoon snacks.
We love this place - we stop every time we are in the ATL. Amazing wood-fired pizza, hand-made sandwiches, sides both traditional and non, salads, coffee, pastries, and unique beverages. All in a great laid-back atmosphere with a neighborhood vibe. Never disappointed.
The breads, all so beautifully displayed. Bought cheese, bread, a container of a delicious salad, and slices of toasted bread with mushrooms and cheese...scrumptious.
Alons is the kind of place that inspires me to cook and try new things. It's stuffed floor to ceiling with amazing variety of foods and wines and everything related. "Amazing" does not mean "expansive" though; it's not Wal-Mart. But you can tell that they carefully select only quality items to sell.
Pasta
Bread
Dessert
Chocolate
Wine
Olive oil
Honey
Cheese
And much more!!
Fanciness 10/10
Amazing pastries and desserts!
I can't say enough good things about Alon's!! You owe it to yourself to stop by if you're in the neighborhood. The krakovskis (almond cookie with raspberry preserves) are absolutely amazing, and I can't have a birthday without a midnight cake from here. It's also a great spot to pick up a good bottle of wine, artisinal cheese, fresh bread and European chocolates, or just stop by to pick up a delicious sandwich for lunch. This place is a neighborhood treasure.
Alon's is a great place to grab prepared food when you don't feel like cooking. They have a delicious artisan bakery, a vast selection of cheeses, and a wonderful cold case with foods by weight or individual pre-packaged meals like grilled salmon and asparagus. It's a go to place for me when I don't feel like cooking.
If you don't know this place.
Get to it stat..
It is delicious.
Has my favorite cake.
Midnight cake ..
Well worth the trip to get it on special occasions..
Love Alons in Virginia Highlands...
A truly special place in great bakery. Awesome European style interior and vibe. Great pastries and baked goods, they also have an assortment of Deli items cheeses drinks coffee Etc
Great food but a bit pricey and every time I come I stand at the counter while being actively ignored. It’s very strange.
Wonderful baked goods -- the cookies are delicious and dangerously small; you could very easily eat 10 before you realized it.Also, the sandwiches are interesting, the salads are large and tasty, and I love the prepared foods section at the end of a busy day.
I love the food, coffee and special treats at Alons. But the staff recently has really gone down hill. When we first started coming to alons years ago we felt like we were treated with respect. All of our questions were answered in full detail. Now our once weekly visits have become very rare. I feel like I'm surrounded by high school students who are not taking their job seriously. Visiting Alons use to be something I couldn't wait for and now it's just so-so.
One of the best bakeries in Atlanta. Great salads, soups and croissants. The oatmeal raisin cookies are top tier. They are my favorite item at Alon's. Ooohhhh .... the ceasar salad is always on point.
One of my favorite places in Atlanta. This shop is filled with the best fresh bread, desserts, cheeses, and snacks. Try the tiramisu!
They have the best crème brûlée it’s a must have!!! Croissants are excellent as well!
We found this place today based on a suggestion. And it was AMAZING! Had the Napoleon, have not had one like it in many years. Sandwiches were great. Now that is a Bakery! Thank you!
Best bread in Atlanta! So many good stuff in one store. Definitly the place to go in case you are searching some good bread, and different types of sweets , cheeses, wine...
One of my favorite hidden gems of Atlanta. Amazing coffee, salads, and even breakfast. It is certainly a go-to in the city. Plus - the staff is always very kind and so sweet to work with.
Fantastic coffee, great market, housemade chocolates, wonderful bread and brunch. My favorite place to stop after a day of culinary school for a coffee, Pellegrino, takeaway sandwich, and double chocolate cookies. Also a great place for pistachio croissants and fresh cannelles.
Such an Atlanta landmark, I am so proud of Alon, his wife and his dad for what they have been able to bring to Atlanta and grow their business over the years. The best pastries in town, without a doubt.
One of the best bakeries in Atlanta. They have great breads and cheeses, desserts, prepared salads, lunches, wines, coffees etc. It's a local neighborhood favorite. Grab your morning coffee and pastry, visit with locals. Saturday mornings are popular with a local organic farmers market across the street.
Did not go to Alons Bakery. Had dinner at Nowak's Restaurant across the street. The food was excellent!
Great food and bake goods! Great place to pickup food for picnics and outdoor events.
The N. Highlands Alon's has neither the great seating of Dunwoody location nor the lunch and deli options. The cheese selection and service far surpasses the Dunwoody restaurant. I similarly enjoy the coffee and baked goods, while leisurely walking through the Highlands.
Why would you pay $12 for a sandwich? Because it's the best d%#& chicken salad, or tuna salad or Italian meats and cheeses you can get for an upscale European deli in Atlanta. Check out Perimeter's location for an even better grocery selection.
Since my family moved to Atlanta this has been one of our favorite spots for birthday cakes, bread, and pastries. Hands down one of the best spots in town for sweets.
Alon's is truely a gem. Every single thing I tried was absolutely perfect. Be warned though; if you aren't careful, you will end up spending quite a lot of money. Perfect for when you want to treat yourself to something delicious.
I ordered a tiramisu cake for a birthday party. The cake was simply amazing. It blew away my expectations and i know where i will be ordering from in the future. Thank you!!!!
Chefkinsey
Emphasis here is on delicious! A tight cramped parking lot makes this a challenge especially weekend mornings.
Favorite Bakery/Deli in Atlanta.
I wish I didn't love Alons so much! I always run in for 1 or 2 items and come out with at least an extra item or 2 - but they are always so great!! ... such delicious food....
Great refined cakes.
Gourmet food options to take away with full bakery, barista and lunch counter. Great place to get a deli sandwich such as the Tunisan tuna with harissa. Catering options are also available and while pricey, the food does not disappoint.
On Sunday, May 1st, my little party of five arrived at your Ashford Dunwoody location mid-morning because I had suggested it for breakfast. We had not been there for breakfast before and we were on a tight schedule. Because it was already a bit humid, we sat inside and soon realized, it was not a restaurant, but actually a bakery and a market. An employee suggested that we sit outside for a self-serve breakfast. Not what I had planned! As we moved to an available table outside, Mr. Paymon Farzaneh came over to our table. He told us he realized already that we were frustrated and that he would do his best to make everything better. I let him know what we had expected and how we were on a tight schedule and he immediately had a solution. We were delighted! What was promising to be a very negative experience turned into a delightful morning with my daughter and friends! I want to congratulate Alon's for having the best ambassador any business could hope to employ. Mr. Farzaneh took his time with us to make sure we were happy and it was just what we needed!
Thank you!

I love coming here when I visit family in Atlanta. The pastries are yummy, I enjoy the sandwiches, and I love the selection of cheeses, desserts, drinks and other goodies.
Definitely on the pricy side but Alon's has top notch breads, pastries and prepared food. Pretty much everything you need for a great picnic, brunch or dinner in one place.
Excellent food and service - the desserts 💯 …
Chocolate mousse, gourmet pasta and sauce, cheese, wine, chocolates and much more. Shop here for your special valentines day meal and you wont miss dining out
This is the best truly European bakery in Atlanta! Careful though, it's so good you might end up putting on a little weight, but it'll be worth it!
Reasonable priced delicious grilled chicken scores, kale salad, new and tasteful healthy selection.
Raspberry chocolate mousse was exceptional!
My favorite breakfast and lunch restaurant in Atlanta. The young women who work here are All beautiful spirits. The coffee is great!
Alon's seems extremely popular, but I was not impressed. The lines can be long and parking is scarce. They make a pretty good sandwich, but I'm not sure if the food is worth the hassle.
The treats d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s WOW but the customer service and atmosphere made the entire visit that much better. Keep it up, I WILL BE BACK lol. 6 stars please :)
Only place that sells opera cake! Cakes available after 9:30am. Fresh double almond croissants in the morning. What more can I say
When you're going to cheat on your diet...you might as well do it right...and Alon's is the first place I think of when I'm ready to go "all-in".
In all seriousness, this is one of the best bakeries in the city.
LOVE their cakes! their pastries are delicious and they look amazing! they also have the best macaroons in town!
Great neighborhood spot for pastries, sandwiches, cheese, and premade meals. Parking on site and tables and chairs to eat at the location (inside and outside). Everything is delicious and high quality. Never disappointed.
Great sandwiches and lunch fare. Their menu has enough options to please an eclectic group of friends or business associates.
Delicious baked goods and prepared foods! Favorites include the rosemary focaccia, cranberry scones, and raspberry chocolate mousse cake.
The best San Francisco style sourdough bread that I've found in the Atlanta area. Excellent cake, cookies and pastries as well.
Super Good All the Way Around from Fruit Salads to Roasted Vegetables to Grilled Seafood, Salads, Sandwiches, and Desserts. And this is The Short List ladies and gentlemen!
I love this place. The food is exceptional. And it's the only place in town to get a great round of camembert cheese, an authentic French crusty baguette, or an authentic French eclair.
Very cute bakery. Lots of cheeses, breads desserts, preserves, wines, you name it. Will be back!
Great bakery et al. Well organized and staffed. I'm personally addicted to the poppyseed danish.
Who doesn't love Alons. Only negative is during pandemic only 6 allowed inside at a time but to their credit the line moves quickly.
Been going there since it opened. Moved away and have to drive 60 miles to get there now, still worth the trip. If you like diversity in food and people this is the place for you
We frequently visit Alon's and have never had a bad experience. Every visit has been met with friendly service, excellent recommendations, and top-notch flavors.
I just picked up some wheat bread, which was very good. But everything in this place looks really good! It definitely can get busy!
Lovely place with great food and a lot of neat gourmet foods (pasta, wine, chocolate, etc etc) that make great gifts. Plus great coffee and pastries :)
Great lunch spot with fresh and healthy choices on their menu and both indoor and outdoor seating (limited). Parking can be a challenge during lunch.
Excellent pastries. Great cheese selection. Wonderful people. It's no mystery why they are usually crowded.
Baggett bread, sandwiches, morning pastries, birthday cakes; Alon's has great quality product to satisfy your needs
Great atmosphere, incredible sandwiches, coffees, desserts and cheese selection. Love this place! It never disappoints!
Absolutely perfect pastries and more. They truly take their craft very seriously. Helpful and friendly staff, too.

Nice little market place. Delicious desserts and coffee. Haven't tried their other items, but looked delicious
One of my favorite places in Atlanta. If they ever close down I'm going to give up on life. Great macaroons!

Alon's never seems to dissapoint. A great little market to buy bakery, pastries, cheeses, wine, and all sorts of delicacies. I highly recommend it.

Alon's is the best. Everything there is delicious -- bread, pastries, prepared food are all top notch.
Friendly service, delicious pastries and coffee. The desserts are works of art. Outdoor seating is a favorite.
Great atmosphere, service, employee experiences, selection, but expensive.
Good selection of pastries, sandwiches, to-go Deli items, cheeses, wine, and coffee.
Delicious treats, friendly staff. Great stop for much better than average bread.
Best bakery close to Emory University. Diversity of cheese, pastries, etc. French approval ! Downside, no cured meat.
Excellent selection of delicious baked goods, wines, cheeses, and more. You will make several trips just to try it all!
the best place next to mom's for home baked goods. i love eating there every chance i can...especially for all the desserts!
I love this place! One of my all time favorite places in Atlanta! Amazing food, friendly staff and lots of variety!
Everything is great but not the same taste. Does anyone know where Rapheal went?
The customer service is top-notch here. Can't get nicer people working behind the counters. Try the desserts, they're sinfully good.
Best bakery in the world. Definitely try any of their breads or cookies
I like what they have, especially Napoleon cake and Croissant . Quite expensive but good
Always end up buying more than I came in for. Great quality. A little pricey. But good stuff.
Get the roasted chicken pesto sandwich, and get it toasted! Great prepared food as well.
You know it's delicious. Some of the best pastry I've had in metro ATL.
They don't open on time mentioned on the door . They don't even open on the amended timings mentioned due to the pandemic . It's a waiting game if you want to get there at early hours .
Always amazing food and Desserts! Great staff too!
Always the best. Flakes pastries, rich cakes, fresh breads and food, great sandwiches and store. Always busy.

A little hectic during peak hours, but worth it for the delicious food and amazing selection.
Allowing just six people and not taking orders outside leads me to wonder what the person in charge is thinking
Excellent!!!! Everything is delish! Great outdoor places to sit with a fan too.
Wonderful staff that will answer any questions you have. Great decorations too!
I love everything they make but the Chocolate Midnight Cake is the BEST!!!
