The bread is fantastic and it makes for a great sandwich. 5 stars for the fresh bread and flavorful sandwiches. Only reason it isn’t 5 stars in the rating, they seemed to get the orders out of order when being made. I know some sandwiches will take longer than others but I got my sandwich and my son, who ordered right after me, took much longer. Several people who ordered after us left with sandwiches in hand. But I will definitely recommend this place to friends and be repeat customer when I’m in town.

As a lifelong Alaskan, GHBC has always been a go to staple for tons of reasons, great bread, creative options, good sandwiches, etc. Lately, not so much. The bread for the most part continues to be a leading reason to visit, but the lunch menu has now become "conservative" at best. In the past, these sandwiches could be thrown through a car windscreen. Just a brick of wholesome goodness. After visiting with my wife today, a spicy Italian sandwich that has a single slice of ham a single lettuce cut, and, I think I got the inner two rings from an onion. Oddly, the price still remained the same. I would advise other lunch locations for the "best bang for your buck" factor, but, the bread is still good. Enjoy now before the bread samples become $.50 a slice.

Holy 😍 SMOKES!!! My first time here and I can't believe my taste buds! I tried the cinnamon swirl bread and (DROP THE MIC). SO SO SOOO soft, perfect texture, and amazing flavor. I had a couple bites of my egg sandwich and enjoyed that as well. The sauces they added to the sandwich was a perfect combo! I will be coming back

Three cheers for Great Harvest!!! Everyone knows they make fantastic bread and generously give large sample slices to anyone who walks in the door, but they are also extremely generous with local nonprofits. They reached out to us last March with an unexpected surprise bread donation that we got to share in a fun way with the local community. This is a community that makes great bread and supports its local community, so I wish I could give it more than five stars!

Received a pack of their ginger snap cookies as a gift from a friend. These were not your typical rock hard, spicy diskettes. These were homemade, grandma secret recipe type cookies. They were huge, soft, and only lightly spiced. Even my picky 5 year old who hates ginger snaps was happy to partake. I haven't been to the store yet, but the quality of these cookies will bring me there soon!

Best breads & treats in any state. Very clean and welcoming location in Anchorage. The aroma alone is worth a visit. Breakfast on a Monday was very quick, no crowd and plenty of tables to dine-in.

HANDS MF DOWN THE OATMEAL CHOCOLATE COOKIE will always be the best cookie ever from GHB. Okay my favorite hot sandwich lately has been the the Turkey & Pepper Jack Panini with Parmesan cheese rustic bread ! Hot sandwich will melt into your mouth leaving a kick of after taste from the peppers & red onions! I always love to add extra cheese because the more the merrier!

What a great place. They have a ton of fresh bread with a great variety. They didn't have what we were looking for when we came in but they had enough of a selection that we were not disappointed and the selections we chose were delicious!

Updated review, been back 3 times now and I’m an out of towner. Love this place. Great smell of baked bread when you walk it. Samples can help decide your order. Generous slice a bread as the sample. Extremely friendly staff. This is the turkey bacon apple. Very delicious!

I really loved the Great Harvest Bread Co when I went to college at UCSB. Their loaves of bread and cinnamon rolls were to die for. I was super excited to see one still in business in Anchorage. I tried to stop by on Dec 24th and then had a line maybe 40 people deep. I came back on Dec 29th and there was no one in line. There was also no product on the shelves. I was able to get my cinnamon roll, which was delicious and my husband got a breakfast sandwich, which he thought was tasty, though nothing to write home about. I wonder if they don’t put product on the shelves or if they just hadn’t gotten there yet after their three day closure. I look forward going back and will hopefully see shelves of loaves to pick from.

Friends stopped by here to get me some sweets for my birthday. Was most impressed by the cinnamon rolls here. First by their sheer size and then by their great taste. After a long day of traveling and being exhausted, sometimes you just crave something sweet. This hit the spot perfectly, would highly recommend to anyone with or maybe even without a sweet tooth.

Wow! This place was amazing! We were met with friendly smiles whom offered up huge samples of their different breads. We managed to save room for a couple of sandwiches that were just as amazing! Their cinnamon roll, ham and cheese roll, and the smoked salmon sandwich will have you coming back for more! I really wished I had smuggled some back in my suitcase! ~sigh~ We will return on our next visit to Anchorage.

I'm so glad someone recommended this place to me. I ordered the Harvest veggie sandwich on cranberry walnut bread and some chips. $13.50 is pretty good for lunch in this expensive city. The amount of sandwich fixes was generous, and I was very surprised by the cookie that was included. The sandwich was very yummy, and I could still taste the flavors in my mouth hours later. The bread was amazing! I want more bread. And even though the line was long, I didn't have to wait long for my sandwich. This will definitely be my go to lunch place when I don't want to make something at home.

We plan to travel around Alaska and needed to have some breakfast food for our travels. The staff was SUPER FRIENDLY and very helpful. They also let you taste the product before you buy, and not just a tiny bite, nice sized pieces. We were very happy with our purchase and our visit - highly recommend. And yes, the food is yummy!

I can’t express how spot on this place is! The lady taking our order gave us several free samples of piping hot bread with butter! We ordered enough sandwiches to also get a free loaf of bread. Their cinnamon swirl loaf was fantastic! The latte was absolutely perfect as well.

What could be wrong about a long established bakery that offers specialty coffee, sandwiches and the most amazing selection freshly baked breads? Their selection changes from day to day but there are a few staple varieties offered all the time. Be warned, they let you taste whatever you want and they don’t skimp with their samples. I love the Honey Wheat. It works for sandwiches or French Toast, but for me it is best toasted with butter. One item I can’t pass up if it is available is their Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread. I share with my family, begrudgingly. You should also try their house granola blend, great with yogurt and berries! Update Feb. 2021: I went in to buy a gift around Valentine’s Day and walked out with more than I should have. I’m here to push the cookies...wow...try all kinds, absolutely delicious!

So here's the thing. The food is good. If you have not had a GHBC sandwich, but live in the midwest, it is similar to say a Panera Bread. But yhe price model is skewed more to the expensive side because everything is a la carte. It threw me for a look because the store in Fairbanks is not A La Carte.

Every now and then, I come here to try a fresh loaf of bread. I tried the blueberry and gingerbread bread. It was incredible! I also ordered half a sandwich from Veggie Harvest and it was very fine, too!

Couldn't wait to post this review. Came here for a cinnamon roll and coffee and realized I've been missing out in life. They have two lines. One is the the order line and the other is a bread sample line. A BREAD SAMPLE LINE! Tried the Rustic white sour dough and it is hands down the best sour dough I've ever had. Cinnamon roll was amazing and the Khaladi brothers Americano was on point! I am going to miss this place. Although maybe they ship it to the lower 48??

Shocking how the bread can really take a sandwich to the next level. A basic ham and cheddar with multi grain rustic is really great. Fantastic place for a sandwich. White chocolate cherry bread is a staple. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out. Loaves of different breads, cinnamon rolls, etc. Their cookies are on the crispy side. Not my favorite, but I always eat them anyway.

My husband used to live near the original store in Montana so I was really looking forward to coming here and trying a fresh and amazing breakfast. From the second we walked in, the cashiers treated us like they had no time for us and that we were dumb for asking about the breads behind the counter. The store did not seem too busy and we felt very rushed out. Chocolate chip muffin was good and the coffee wasn't bad.

Came across this place during a recent visit to Anchorage. Excellent sandwiches. Tried their spicy veggie sandwich and grilled cheese (panini). Both were excellent. It was a busy place and staff was doing their best to keep the orders moving. They also have variety of breads and give free samples.

The breads are very good, coffee is so/so. The cinnamon chip and cranberry walnut breads are worth trying. The staff are very friendly and, in my experience, are patient with less experienced customers.

The bread and paninis are phenomenal, but your stuck waiting almost 45 minutes for the sandwhich you order no matter how busy they are. The people making the sandwhichs move extremely slow even if they are really far behind. The bread they use saves the cold sandwhichs from being complete trash because they put almost nothing on them. They also don't list what gets put on these sandwhichs and that's pretty annoying to have to ask everytime I order.

I love this place. Their Cinnamon Chip bread is scrumptiously delicious. They give free samples of their breads, and the samples are full slices of bread, not just a bite. If you haven't been there, treat yourself. The fresh baked bread, along with their coffee, cookies, sandwiches, and other little goodies, are definitely worth the trip.

Every time I have ever been here it has been a great experience. Whatever bread you are interested in they will give you a sample of it even if they have to go and get it, you’re not limited to what they have been giving out as samples, and we’re not talking a bite size sample, they give you a huge sample and everyone with you gets whatever sample they want also. I have never been disappointed in any of their breads I have purchased, I love cinnamon bread and theirs is delicious.

Sandwiches are so good, but I’m giving it 3 stars because my order is ALWAYS wrong. I’ve ordered online and in person 3 times recently and my order is wrong every single time. I order a turkey sandwich with lettuce, onion, oil and vinegar. The last 3 times they’ve added extra ingredients like mayonnaise (gross) or tomatoes? Consistent quality with the fresh, homemade tastes of good bread. Free samples let you check out new loaves before committing. Honey wheat is a standby. The sandwiches can be ordered in half or full to help with food waste and portion control. The Alaska Chicken is a favorite in my office. Service is friendly and kind. Make sure to get a punch card if you will be back. Free loaf when the card is full.

It's such an open warm place with great staff. 100/10 will be going back. And while the prices are on the high side for some of the breads, you are getting your moneys worth of flavor

The sandwich was surprisingly small for the amt we paid, but I eat small portions so it worked out fine. However, the wait took forever which is the reason for the docked star. The best part about this place is the little station where they give out samples of their bread. They are so generous with the "sample" they give and the bread is warm and delicious.

A friend of mine in NH sent me a video on social media that showed how the bread is made here. After watching this, I rushed here the next morning. I bought a loaf of cinnamon chip bread and I think its the most delicious bread I've ever had. It was still warm when I bought it, and they provided me a plastic bag in which to store it after it cooled off in about 3 hours. And I loved the fact that they have a super friendly employee right when you walk in that gives you free samples of fresh bread. As I write this review, I'm craving their bread again...

HOLY MOLY this place is good. I took a bite of my Turkey and Pepper Jack panini and instantly wanted another one before I was even finished. The chipotle sauce was really good, the turkey itself was flavorful and sliced thick, and the bread... lord. Also, they have cinnamon rolls the size of your head and give out samples. Highly recommend.

Your breads have been a part of our meals for many years. We, our children and grandchildren love your breads. You have been shared with families across the US when we fly many times a loaf or two of will bread fly in our carry on. You have taken the guess work out of shopping for those picky folks we like gifting and no matter what we purchase it is always the right gift. Granted I’m not even out of high school, but I’ve literally been eating food from here since I was in kindergarten. The staff are friendly, and I’m not a huge bread person but the cinnamon chip bread or cinnamon rolls or 7 layer bars are all very good and it’s definitely worth a try in my opinion

This place is almost always full of people when I visit & it's not hard to see why, when you walk in, the smell of fresh baked goods hits your nose, the portions of their bread samples (optional butter always available) are a grand snack & I'm always tempted to buy a loaf when I visit, especially because I can try before I buy! The prices for a full loaf are extremely reasonable considering the time & money it would cost to produce a product similar at home!

We were in Anchorage for a few days after a couple weeks exploring Alaska. Our hotel was nearby to this place, but we didn't come across it until the last day. What a mistake that was! The bread and sandwiches coming out of this place are amazing. I'll always remember walking up, being asked if I wanted a sample, then handed a HUGE slice of bread as my 'sample'. It was delicious and made me want to order an entire sandwich from them and one of their ridiculously large cinnamon buns. Stop reading this and go now!
