It was a Saturday around 12:00 when I arrived and the line moved quickly. When it was my turn the machine would not read info from my car. The attendant was patient, tried a second handheld device, and called for a supervisor. The supervisor was nicer than the attendant. He went out of his way by trying himself on a separate lane that he opened just to let me know it was my car and not their machine. Even though I didn't pass I got A+ service and treated like they were trying to help me not just move along. Best fail ever.

Just like its DMV, this place is so organized and efficient, with friendly staff. Other states could learn a thing or two and realize that DMVs don’t need to feel like walking into hell for customers. In and out in minutes! I had such a positive experience at the inspection station this morning. Heading in at 11am on a Saturday, I expected a very long line. Not so! This inspection station was incredibly efficient; we were in and out in 10-15 minutes. Disassociate this place with the DMV. They are separate and provide opposite experiences. At the Inspection Station, staff are friendly, efficient and move people in and out well. I drove up around 9 a.m. on an August Thursday and waited only two minutes before I saw someone. Three minutes later, I had a new sticker and paperwork. Done! Such a great experience!

Went here on Thurdsay, June 16, 2022 and there was no line. The service was great. They have changed the process and you stay with your car nowyou don't go inside. I still wish there were multiple inspection stations throughout the city, but at least this one is good.

The crew is kind and I actually look forward to this knowing it will be so easy! Paired with the Georgetown DMV, DC makes anything related to a car easy peasy. — Old review: Went at 1pm on a Saturday, drove straight up and was done in under 10 minutes! The crew is so nice and funny, they always make this chore an easy one.

This year the procedure was different because you stay in the car instead of waiting indoors. The staff was friendly and quick. Their website said that Thursday 10 AM was was less crowded time and I found that info to be helpful.

Getting an inspection 7 AM on a Tuesday morning wasn't bad. There was a long line, but I ended up in a good lane. I was done in 15 minutes. I still only gave them 4 stars because no one guided you like in the past when first arriving.

The man with the locs was very much a genuine gentleman and patient. I passed lane six which I was originally supposed to stop at. But, he told me he would take care of me, and he did. Likely the most efficient and best run part of DC government. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. Street parking can be tough if you need to go back inside the office after your test, but it's not that bad.

They just reopened for Phase II. Not only was it a breeze (The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes including wait time) but I get very safe. The guys (it was all men when I was there) were all really nice. I saw them using wipes and sanitizer between cars. They barely touched anything and I waited on the side on a circle that was def further than 6’. They also had fans everywhere so the air was moving. The entire process was great from start to finish! My first ever 5 star DMV rating. Edit: I went around 9:30 on 7/1.

If someone didn't give this place five stars they need to change their review. This is the most efficient and professional "business" certainly in the government and possibly in all of DC. I've never waited here more than forty five minutes (and that's being generous), even when the line was so long I was back out on the street. Today I visited and hardly had time to use the bathroom before my car was ready to be picked up. Love it. Whoever is running this place is doing everything right.

This center is great, quick in and out. Only thing is you cant trust the times listed on Google or online. DMV is not on point with the remote settings that most of the world uses. They will have one time listed online or say there open and will be closed. I suggest you call before you go. It's a waste of gas and time when you don't.

Pretty quick and effective. Just try to communicate and be patient with the gentleman directing traffic. Oftentimes people can come after you and get done more quickly due to the way people are directed in the lines. You get more with sugar so communication is key. Try to work with the people in the lines and ask for the most efficient line to get out quickly. The website lists the best/worst times to go based on volume/traffic. Overall, they run a pretty tight ship at the Inspection Center. I believe I was in/out in about thirty minutes. I'm going again today and I will update my review if there are major changes. Not a bad experience at all. I expected a horrible experience. It wasn't that at all! Don't get fooled by the lines around the corner lol They go very quickly due to the efficiency of the workers. The taxi line though....God bless the taxi line.

I recently moved to DC from Indiana and never had to have a car inspection before in order to get a license plate. I wasn't sure how the process would work and how long it would take. When I arrived at 7am when they open, the lines were already long and I assumed I was going to be there all morning. However, I was only there for 15 minutes! The lines moved quickly and the employees were very friendly. Definitely pleased with my experience.

This was the quickest inspection I've ever had. I took one star off because a guy tried to cut the line, which I'm not sure is the DMV's fault, but it affects the experience. Anyways, new cars with odb sensors are just plugged in and slapped with a sticker. I'm not entirety sure what this giant facility is even needed for anymore. Looks like it just checks to see if the maintenance light is on but I'm not a car guy. I also tried the self service station in Takoma. It was much faster and I highly recommend that if you don't like people who cut in line.

Maybe it's because my car is brand new, or maybe because I follow instructions...but man. This place is fast. Much faster than it USED to be. Very friendly, frank, staff. The whole process took six minutes exactly, and I went on a Wednesday at ten AM. The only drawback, has nothing to do with the station itself. There's a LOT of construction going on around this place, so it may throw your GPS for a loop.

My Inspection was actually pleasant, January 5, 2020 at the first bay. In light of the covid situation there was no need to have my passenger get out the car. The attendants were wearing mask and gloves. They greeted me saying Happy New year and How is your day. They were quick in checking the smog with a extended wan. Then he hooked up the diagnosis compartment ,and motioned me to drive forward.. from there I was mentioned me to move again. Once at this station the attendant followed suit in greeting me. He scraped off the old sticker and replaced it with the new one.. At this point he said have a nice day and I was on my way. This entire process was completed in 15 minutes...

Well I was delayed this year getting my inspection done because of Covid. My sticker expired in June but the station was closed due to the pandemic as I confirmed by calling the city wide call center. Fast forward to Sept, the station was open again and I went on a Tuesday. I arrived at around 11:15 am and the lines weren't that long. The difference this year is masks are required and once it is your turn, you stay in your vehicle, pulling up into the station as instructed, you step out momentarily, get back in and then drive down to the end to get your new sticker and exit. It was quick, safer (as you don't leave your vehicle and walk through the station as in years prior), and easy.

Went to the DC Vehicle Inspection Station during the time they stated on the website to go (Thursday and Friday in the early afternoon). I drove into the station and waited for about 30 seconds. I just had to wait ten feet away while they went through the inspection. I've been here in the morning and the line does form around the block at times or the driveways are packed full. I highly recommend checking the website to see when the down times are. So easy!

I came here to have my infant car seat installed per the suggestion of a blog. My partner had installed it incorrectly and I had no luck in MD or VA. Desperate on a Wednesday afternoon with a 4-day-old newborn potentially in danger, we came to the inspection station and were greeted by the incomparable Mr. Walker. After a wait time of maybe 5 minutes, he reinstalled the car seat and talked us through every step. Incredibly knowledgeable man and extremely kind. I never imagined that I’d leave a vehicle inspection station feeling so weightless, but I assure you I did. I’d recommend that anyone in the DC area come here for car seat help. Mr. Walker also said that if you’re in need of a car seat that the district will give you one for free!

Let's admit it: taking your car in for inspection is never fun. But I've done it twice now in DC and these guys get it done quick. Both times I've gone in just as they open in the morning. Maybe that helps. The lines look long but they move well. The inspection process itself takes less than five minutes. I think they only check your OBD and exhaust system. Entire time spent there was only about 15 minutes.

On a Sunday, I tried to make an appointment on-line but the first available was 2-3 weeks away. After I read the great reviews, I decided to just show up. I arrived around 10 AM on a Tuesday morning and was in and out within 20-30 minutes. Four stars because the experience kinda makes you feel like a fluffy little baby chick tumbling down a conveyor belt, which is not totally awesome. But, its a very pleasant conveyor belt and the people tagging and sorting you are very nice. In case you’re the kind of person who doesnt get a poetic or spiritual thrill out of the conveyor belt treatment, what will happen is that you pull up, pick a lane and wait in line in your car. (Remember which lane you chose, they might use that to call you when they are done.) Then, you pull up to a covered service bay, A Dude will greet you ask you to get out of your car and direct you to head inside, kinda like any trip to a Jiffy Lube. You can wait in a hallway with windows and watch, go to the bathroom, get snacks from a vending machine, or walk through and sit down to wait. There is a desk that is staffed, but you dont have to check in, show paperwork, or anything. Over the intercom, A Dude’s Voice will call a lane and to tell you your car is ready. If you spin around in surprise and confusion, The Dude Voice might call the make and model of your car, or the color. You’ll head out and jump in your car, still not knowing whats going on. You’ll kinda ask, “Hey what’s next?” But you might not get a meaningful answer. You’ll discover a piece of paper on your passenger seat that says you passed inspection. Then a couple days later you’ll notice a sticker in your window and figured that means something, too.

DC DMV Inspection Station has an online appointment process now that worked really well. You can arrange for a 15 minute window for your appointment. When you arrive for your appointment you, simply drive past the cars lined up along the street until you see a DMV worker at the entrance to the inspection station. He/she will direct you to another entrance where you are pushed ahead of cars waiting in line. The workers are still mostly all business, so don't expect a lot of friendly banter, but they are very polite. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Outstanding work DC DMV!!!

I'm still in shock at how friendly every single one of the employees were at this station. I never expect a good DMV experience, but when we finally made it to this inspection station after waiting 2.5 hours at the nearly empty (!!!) Georgetown DMV, I was pleasantly surprised that the inspection process was so fast and easy! That place is a well-oiled machine; very organized and expeditious. One employee even entered our information into DMV's website and let us pay our registration fee there, saving us the hassle of trying to figure it out ourselves at home. I think he felt sorry for us since we had just moved to DC from another state. He was amazing, as well as Mr. Simpson, who kept us laughing. The entire process took 3 hours, from driver's licensing at the nearly empty Georgetown office to inspection/registration, and in my experience, that's a miracle. God bless you guys!!

Made my appointment online but when I got there nobody even asked about having one. I was directed into a random service lane. There were 5 lanes open. Things did move relatively quickly but I didn't have much of a clue about what was going on. The place is also under construction. The inspection process consisted of driving into your assigned lane. Waiting til you moved to the inspection point. Then getting out and walking to the end to wait for your car. Get handed a pass/fail notice and a sticker on your windshield if you passed.

I've been using DC DMV inspection stations since the 1970s. Back then we use to have two inspection station; one at 1001-Half Street and the other on West Virginia Avenue in Northest DC. The station on West Virginia Avenue was closed down round 1990 or so. The DC Government said it would be modernized and updated; that it would reopen in 2 years. Tim passed and for reasons never explained it never reopened! White the one station in Southwest DC works very well and is wonderful for those who happen to live in that part of the city, for those living the opposite side of the station it's a pain to get to as there's no really convenient route to the station. Until such time as the DC Government sees fit to either explain just why after so much money was spent why the West Virginia Avenue Station never opened, I cannot give a good rating to our one and only inspection station; still one of the main sources of air pollution for the DC Area.
