I was getting ready for a long road trip and had an old Saab and just wanted to get everything checked and good to go, after calling a few places scanwest was recommended to me and they were able to squeeze me in pretty quick and when I dropped off my car they updated me consistently and gave me extremely helpful information. An awesome business that is kind and professional, sometimes hard to find with anything car related! I was very pleased and would go back to them in a heartbeat. If you are unsure I would definitely recommend them!

Bought my 1998 Saab 900 turbo which had leaks, engine issues and I also crashed it they transformed my car from looking like something that you'd find for like 300 dollars on Craigslist into my glorious Saab 900 that I have today. These guys are the real deal-- took my Saabs there for years. I've since switched to BMWs and had a really weird problem with my X5 that they stuck with until they found the problem-- rodent damage! The kind of problem that could bankrupt you with diagnostic labor and 'experimental' parts being replaced, but instead they totally undercharged me for the time spent and ultimately got it fixed with no parts replaced! This was the kind of problem where you really have the trust the shop and they really came through. Rob and team are awesome-- customer for life here!

Was impressed to see, after having been away for 12 years, that many of the same staff here then are still here. That says volumes about the integrity and atmosphere in this shop. A happy mechanic will do a better job and, in my experience, this is the most trustworthy and competent shop i have ever dealt with (4 saabs over the years). They are also a major Subaru shop and also doing Volvo, BMW, Audi. Highly recommended.

Their knowledgeable professionals have always been able to resolve any issues that I have had with my vehicles and they have always done such in an expedient and cost effective manner. As far as businesses go they are one of the most honest group of folks I have ever met: One time I forgot to get my change after I had a bunch of work done, to the tune of almost $100, I live 60 miles from their location and instead of them pocketing my money they actually called me up and asked what I wanted to do, we decided to put it on a credit for me. I took my 2005 SAAB Aero 9-2X in for an oil change and to get a spare key cut. They also noticed that I had a partially burnt out headlight and fixed that too! Other shops have tried to swindle me because I was a woman and don't know much about cars. Scanwest has told me NOT to do some things because they weren't needed yet. After dropping my wife off at the airport to go visit her mother I called Scanwest, the caretaker of our Saab 93. Could they get our car repaired (replace front brakes and a headlight) that same day or the next? Not only could they get the job scheduled in at 3 p.m. same day, they had most parts in stock. Great service at a reasonable price that got done in less than two hours on short notice. There's a reason we come back here as needed.

Great shop. Well worth driving up from Tacoma! They found a part for our Saab that no one else in the Seattle/Tacoma area could. Turned out my problem was mis-diagnosed by another shop. They found the real problem and didn’t charge me for the part I had asked them to order because it wasn’t needed. They got to my car and fixed it right away, the price for their work was very reasonable and they were friendly.

Albert, one of the service representatives at Scanwest, diagnosed all the issues and we came up with a prioritized plan to fix the issues over time so that I could stay within my budget. After buying my first Saab and going in for the 120k recommended maintenance the next week, I wasn't really sure what to expect. After doing research they seem to charge right about average from what I can see, but definitely went above and beyond in their customer service. They called within an hour and a half of drop off to go over the mechanic safety check and walk around, got all the maintenance done in about 3.5 hours, and even called two days later to make sure the car was running smoothly after all the changes they did. Definitely will be going back.

I have 3 Saabs that my wife and I really enjoy. We reside in Spokane. With no reliable source for the technical aspects of Saab maintenance there, I brought one of our cars to Scanwest for repair. The shop is knowledgeable and accommodating. Craig and Albert are professional and pleasant to work with. Their loaner program is especially attractive to me. A 5 hour drive to the shop is not convenient but Scanwest takes a lot of the pain out of making the trip. Thank you!

My gf was having issues with her transmission slipping in her 2012 Subaru Impreza. I did some quick research and found the valve body in the transmission is a common failure for Subaru CVT transmission so much so that there is a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty issued from Subaru. I call Subaru of NA and they said it needed to be diagnosed. I brought the car to scan west based on the reviews just to confirm. I asked if they had the proper Subaru software to perform the diagnosis and they said yes. When we went to get the car we were told all they did was drain the transmission, found metal in the fluid, and said it needed a new transmission. I ended up then taking it to a Subaru dealer ship who confirmed it was the valve body failure so I could move forward with the warranty claim. It didn’t cost much for the inspection from scan west but I’m disappointed based on their reviews and their self proclaimed expertise in subarus that they couldn’t even diagnose a very simple common failure and recommend I spend thousands of dollars relaxing a transmission instead of the much cheaper valve body replacement. I think these guys will be good if you know what repair you need to have done. But if you need something diagnosed just better to take it to the dealer. Never thought I’d say that but it seems to be the case. Judging from the amount of Saab’s in the shop compared to subarus I’d say these guys seem more like Saab experts than Subaru anyway. Ymmv.

I'd been chasing a ghost in my 2002 Saab 9-3 when it decided to stall while driving down Greenwood Ave, directly across the street from ScanWest. After tinkering with it myself for a bit, the owner of ScanWest--Rob-- walked over to see what what was going on- within 15 minutes the problem was diagnosed, the direct ignition cassette was replaced, and I was out the door with a running Saab! They gave me a great price for the part and labor, and were very straight forward about the necessity(in this case, the lack thereof) of getting other potential issues fixed and their cost. Awesome service, great value, can't more highly recommend the shop.

Long term client 22 years Having owned a SAAB since 1993, I have been a repeat client to Rob and staff at Scan West. They have been great at keeping my aging SAAB on the road. I previously posted this review on Scanwest's website but I thought it deserved to be posted here too. I moved to Seattle 17 years ago. After two years of bouncing around to different shops, several people told me the best place in town to take my Saab was Scanwest Autosport. I have now been taking my Saab to Scanwest for the past 15 years and cannot imagine going anywhere else! The quality of work and customer service is top notch and honestly the best in town. Scanwest just refurbished my 1992 Saab convertible and it looks spectacular. The car is now running as good as ever and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for everything! I've been coming here for 13 years and these guys are the best. I've brought my car in when i thought it was having an issue, often it turned out to be a quick and easy adjustment that they either charge me very little for, don't charge me or tell me that actually the car is fine and what i thought was an problem was not. When there are issues they'll let me know about how much more I can get out of the part before replacing it- sometimes it needs immediate attention and sometimes I've had a year+ left of use before I had to change it. Also, everyone there is SO friendly. And I love the shop dog! Sometimes when I'm getting my oil changed they let me take him for a walk to the nearby park. Scanwest is like family as far as I'm concerned and i won't go anywhere else for car repair, period.

I first heard of Scanwest nearly 20 years ago when I was building a performance SAAB. Scanwest was the US representative for Abbott Racing components at the time, and had earned their stellar reputation as the Saab USA Rally team. Their enthusiasm for my project was sincere and I learned a lot working with them remotely from New England. A decade later I move to the Seattle area and was delighted to continue to work with Scawest to maintain my Saab automobiles. 6 years ago I purchased a high mileage Saab with confidence seeing that every single service on the car was done by Scanwest. Now I literally drive a 27 year old, 260+ mile car that's been exclusively maintained by Scanwest its entire life. There's never any guessing with Scanwest. The job is always done right.

What a great surprise to find such helpful and knowledgeable mechanics right around the corner! I looked up Mechanics for Mini Cooper Near Me, and gave them a call from the list. I spoke to Seth on the phone who told me I could drop by anytime to have my headlight bulbs replaced, so I did. Rob helped me, and asked me -since my bulbs weren't burnt out- if it could be something else? He would check and make sure it wasn't a foggy cover or maybe another issue. He replaced the bulbs, and asked me to give my opinion on the brightness. When we both agreed we saw no improvement, he ordered bulbs that were whiter output and told me they'd be in the next day. Before I left, he told off my oil, checked my coolant, and charged me nothing. When I came back the next day, they reset my oil service notification on my car's computer, switched out my headlight bulbs, and had me approve the difference - all within 10 minutes! I am so impressed, I will definitely be back for all my oil changes and any services I might need down the road. A huge thank you to the whole Scanwest team for all of their help!

Moved back to Alaska where there is little to no Saab repair shops. I do most of my own work anyway, but broke my transmission on my 02 9-5 Aero wagon. Called these guys up and they helped me find a NEW transmission and had it freigted to Alaska. Prices where spot on where they should be. I have not had this type of help from a shop in a long time. Only negitive is that it sometimes took a while to get a response, but I am sure they are very busy and being up in Alaska, I understand being a lower priority. Still, despite that, 5 stars for sure

Craig helped me diagnose my cooling system issue. Even though I didn’t have the money to have them fix it, he wrote up an estimate including the part numbers required for the fix and filled all of my fluids before leaving the shop (including giving me a jug of water in case the car overheated again). We have been taking our 1987 Saab Turbo to Scanwest for a number of years. They have always been very accommodating and helpful. We live some distance away and were using a closer mechanic who we found out was ripping us off on a regular basis. The people at Scanwest twice told me how to fix problems with the car myself instead of having it towed in to them thereby saving us a lot of money. Their rates are not cheap but their work is very reliable and they take the time to explain what they have done and why. I have never doubted anything they told me and trust them implicitly. An employee stayed late when we had to have our car towed in (fuel pump) and they gave us a loaner to use. There may be shops that charge less but when dealing with a car like a Saab it is worth paying a little more to get professional work done.

Arrived on their doorstep from out of town with a need to have my central windshield washer valve replaced. Took the car in immediately. Finished the repair in twenty minutes; including replacing clips on my hood blanket., out the door for $33 bucks. $13 of which was labor. Miraculous. Very friendly, took home one cool pen and two license plate frames for free. Made my day. Don’t hesitate if you have a problem with your Saab.

In this case, they reviewed what was on my list of stuff not working on my 2004 Saab 9.5 that might need repair, came up with a costing that could not be justified based on the value of the car, and only charged me half an hour of their time for this comprehensive on-rack review. I brought Scanwest an ‘85 Saab 900 Turbo that I rescued from a lot in Arkansas back in 2013. It sat around in central Missouri for six years, with various shops trying and failing to get it into drivable condition. After returning to Washington State, I turned it over to Rob and Craig and the rest of the people at Scanwest, and about three weeks later, it’s running like a dream. They put a ton of work in — they got the engine running great, they took care of a bunch of odds and ends ranging from replacing the entire headliner to fixing the power locks, and they installed a stereo I brought them so I could have CarPlay functionality in my 35-year-old car. The list is long, these are just a few highlights. Long story short, I now have a reliable and highly enjoyable daily driver, and I’ve been rescued from the fate of buying a boring Chevrolet Spark. They kept in contact with me every step of the way, letting me know what they were doing and why they were making the decisions they were making. And they clearly took pleasure and pride in getting the old girl back on the road. I hope I don’t have to see them often, but should the occasion arise that my car needs more work, I won’t take it anywhere else.

I like to work on my own cars and have had a number of classic Saabs over the years and Scanwest has been very helpful any time I am dealing with a problem that I can't solve on my own or just don't have time to handle. They are happy to share knowledge with the home mechanic and if the car does end up in the shop, they don't do unnecessary work. Yes, the hourly rate is higher than competitors but the value is worth it. For example, a local body shop had estimated ten hours to tack my rear bumper back on my TSD rally Saab when it had been pulled off during a snow bank extraction. Scanwest was able to do the work in less than two, saving me a giant chunk of money. They can get new parts that are no longer available through normal channels and also have inventory of good used parts. They are highly recommended.

Having a team that you can trust when you ask questions like, “is it going to strand me?” Or “will this really fix it?” Or “Would you let your daughter ride in my car with me? “ And having them answer honestly, “Well, you don’t need to do these other two things but you should definitely consider X“. Needed a replacement and repair of a 5 speed manual transmission on a 1999 Tacoma 4X4. They were extremely helpful and went through all options for this repair. They purchased a used transmission, transferred all switches from my failed transmission to the replacement and resurfaced the flywheel and replaced the clutch. They met their promised schedule and price. All of the staff was very personable. These people were a pleasure to work with. While Toyota products are not their regular line of business, they understood them well and would expect they would treat all customers similarly.

These guys are MECHANICS, not technicians. Wanna know the difference? A technician knows how to replace components based on the manufacturer's instructions. A MECHANIC knows why the component failed and how to repair it. After several rounds with the dealer of "guess that problem" I took our car to Scanwest. Rob figured out what was wrong, not just what component could be replaced. He fixed the issue and then, understanding why it failed, tweaked the design that led to the problem so it wouldn't happen as easily again. The dealer told me to expect a $600 repair. Scanwest was under $200. I'm not saying the dealer would have done $200 worth of work and made an extra $400 profit. In reality, the dealer technician would have just done an extra $400 worth of unnecessary work, with extra cost and time, for the same profit. In the end, Scanwest's experience probably earned more profit (as they should), because they are MECHANICS. Oh, and they're damn nice people. Honest. Professional. Competent. Experienced. Resourceful. Reliable.

Actually all the mechanics are amazing and fixed up my '07 Saab 9-3 aero sport wagon making it comfortable to drive again and making it actually work at full capacity again! I had forgotten how fast she goes! But now onto the bad... The guy who works at the front desk all the time and is the guy that always answers the phone, is so unbelievably rude. I don't know why they would have that jack ass basically be their representative to all new customers! He goes out of his way to ignore you when you come in to drop off your car or to get a quick check engine light evaluation, not even looking up from what he's doing or acknowledging your existence at all! And if you don't know a lot about cars or car parts, get ready to feel stupid because he will make sure you do. And I know it wasn't just me, I watched him treat 2 other customers this way as well. I seriously can not stand that guy, if the other mechanics weren't so amazing at their jobs as well as super nice and understanding, this would have been a 1star review and they would not have a returning customer. I can't remember the two men that helped me, one was about 5'9", was of Asian decent and had black hair - he was so nice and helped me get my puppy back in the car, opening and closing the hatch and helping me with his kennel, even though he clearly had other things to do, he saw me struggling and still took the time to help me and share a few words about our dogs :). And the other man was probably about 6', very thin, with a shaved head I think, he was the one who explained everything to me very in depth, and without judgement, he knew that I don't know a lot about the mechanics of cars but that I love Saab, and he didn't make me feel like an idiot Everytime I had to ask him what something was or to clarify something. TL;DR- front desk worker is a complete a-hole, but every other mechanic there is hard working, respectful, knowledable, and talented person, and their work is worth every penny I paid!!

We only found out about Scanwest a couple of months ago but wish we had known about them years ago. We had several issues with our 2004 Saab Arc 9.5 turbo wagon which another garage had tried unsuccessfuly to fix. The car only has 86,000 miles on the clock. Since we had decided to give the car to our granddaughter who was turning 16 we took the car to Scanwest for a complete inspection, particularly a safety inspection. Scanwest identified several problems and were also able to fix some malfunctions that we had lived with for years. They clearly are expert at working on Saabs and have extensive knowledge that your typical garage does not have. We are vey impressed with their work and would heartily recommend them to any other Saab owner.
