I had a wonderful experience using Santa Monica Motors for the first time. Brit at the desk was lovely and helpful. Bob, who seemed to be managing the bay, was delightful and funny. Overall a pleasant place with pleasant people. They had a nice outside sitting area for people to enjoy and my car was in and out for the smog check in 15 minutes(I was there 5 minutes after they opened). Overall excellent experience that would make me want to come back in the future for car repairs. Thank you for the excellent hospitality!

Very quick and professional experience! Nice waiting room, and Bob, who I think runs the business, was very friendly and welcoming as well as the guy who did my smog check. They’ve been there in business for over 40 years from what Bob told me. They said I was the last person of the day, but a young man showed up after hours and they still helped him. I got there 10 minutes before they closed to get a smog check. I was so sure they were going to tell me I was too late, but they graciously took care of me. Bob, the manager, was very helpful. Fast! Efficient! We came here without an appointment. We were told to drive in directly to one of the two bays. It took 15 minutes and we were done. We waited outside in the shade however there is indoor seating at the cashier area with air conditioning. I highly recommend these these guys!

Since moving to the area in 2021, Santa Monica Motors is the only auto shop where I’ve brought my car: I go to them for my oil changes, servicing, and big repairs/replacements. (For context, I drive a used car from 2005– there’s always a lot of upkeep!) I’m really hesitant about auto shops because I’ve had a lot of bad experiences (a lot of mechanics try to swindle me because I’m a woman of color and they assume I don’t know anything about cars). Santa Monica Motors is by far the most trust worthy, honest, communicative, respectful, and genuinely helpful auto shop I’ve ever been to. They’re really incredibly hard working, and really know what they’re doing. They’re dedicated to not just getting the job done quickly, but getting the job done right. The mechanics also have the most integrity I’ve ever witnessed: they have this awesome online system through which they send customers pictures, videos, and explanations of everything that they see in your car when they service it. That way, you could even show another mechanic the pictures and get a second opinion before moving forward with the suggested repairs. Believe me—you don’t actually need that second opinion, because Santa Monica Motors is really honest and professional about what repairs your car actually needs, and their prices are SUPER fair. And they keep you updated throughout the whole process. For my latest repair, I had to get my accelerator pedal sensor replaced. The first two replacement parts that came in weren’t going to run well in the car, and the Santa Monica Motors team was really dedicated to getting the right part for my car that wouldn’t give me trouble down the line. I really appreciate how much time they put into getting the job done right. The entire team- from service mechanics to smog to front desk staff- are really friendly, pleasant, and helpful. All in all, I always have a great experience with this shop, and they keep my old car running really smoothly. There’s a reason why Santa Monica Motors is so popular in the neighborhood (there’s always a line whenever I go)… This is the only auto shop I’ve ever recommended to other people. I’m so happy that I finally found a place I can trust, and that I genuinely want to support!

My mechanic at Foreign Sport Technician in SaMo recommended this shop, and they did not disappoint. My mechanic, Paul, is the nicest guy on the planet, so it was no surprise he sent me to the most friendly and professional smog shop on the west side. My old girl of a M.Benz was in and out in under 15 minutes. Clean waiting area both inside and outside. Reasonably priced smog service (check their website for a coupon!), and they offer other DMV related transactions too.

Easily the best smog inspection experience I have ever had! As soon as I pulled my car in, I was instantly greeted by their service advisor Bob. He made me feel right at home, explained the procedure, directed me where to wait, and before I knew what had happened I was already paying for the service with their delightful cashier. Shout out to Joseph who did the physical inspection. I cannot imagine ever going anywhere else. They treat you like family and royalty at the same time. Unfortunately the person who inspected my car was a little bit dumb. My car is set in Kilometers not miles. So, he recorded my mileage as is. Which is way higher than the actual mileage. Even after I told him it was in kilometers. So when I went to apply for a car I had to input the miles on my current car. I got a error message that the miles I entered doesn’t match my last SMOG certification. Lame. I don’t have 333k miles on my car…

Just received such great service here! Pulled in to get a required STAR certified smog check done on my car in order to renew my registration, & they started immediately. I couldn’t find my registration renewal- they found it in their computer system by an alternate method. They provided me with a reasonable estimate - UP FRONT - & once I agreed to it & signed they went to work. In the meantime I had noticed my temp light going off yesterday & had checked my coolant level- only to find it was practically bone dry. I went inside & told the gentleman attending to Santa Monica Motors customers about the issue & asked if they could fix that for me after my Smog Check (as Santa Monica Motors is a separate business but attached to the Smog Cert center building so they can work in tandem it seems). He said he was sure they could & asked me a few questions- the next thing I know he comes in to tell me they had taken care of it, & that it’s already been refilled - FREE OF CHARGE. That’s correct…now when is the last time an auto garage gave you ANY service, no matter how small, FREE of charge? In addition to all of this, the entire process took less than 20 min., AND they electronically send the results to the DMV for you immediately. Plus the waiting room is clean & air-conditioned. And lastly, everyone from the smog certifier’s & the auto repair guys next door- to Brit working at the front desk- were all very polite & professional without being overly stuffy- a rarity I particularly appreciate these days as it’s getting more & more rare. Overall such a painless experience- & really feel like I have found another auto repair shop that’s honest & trustworthy to try out the next time my car needs a repair (as it’s bound to at some point.). I highly recommend them if you need a smog certification or just a decent auto repair center.

This is a good place for service and smog checks. I like this business for a couple reasons. First, Bob is a welcoming, straight-talking professional. This place is also convenient for me and takes appointments. Also I trust their work. In past experiences I feel I have gotten what I paid for and did not pay any more for things I didn't need. Smog check a pleasure? Yep…here it is. This will def be my new go-to for SMOG Check and will refer all my friends. Had been using same place for last decade but they closed. So this is my forever Smog place I hope! The two men there could not have been nicer…both welcoming. It took 10 mins TOPS…older place 45 mins. Clean office where you pay - in fact the whole place was clean with places to sit while you wait. I might give the adjacent body shop a try which is run by Bob (one of the two men there…the younger one I didn’t catch his name but super sweet!).

Been going here for YEARS with my car, my wife’s car and my truck. They are friendly, fair, fun to deal with and take care of you. Have used Santa Monica motors for many years for service on my Audi. Over the years I’ve gotten everything from scheduled service to brakes to major repairs done there. I’ve compared prices to the Audi dealership and they are consistently light years cheaper even when using the same parts the dealer uses. I usually work with Ray as my service advisor. He has always been honest and straightforward with me about options and calling out things that weren’t worth fixing when I planned to sell my car. I first wandered in here about a decade ago when I received a Smog Check requirement on my registration renewal, and saw the “SMOG CHECK” sign over their garage bays. Now I won’t go anywhere else for smog/registration needs. I have yet to really need major auto repairs done but I would probably go to them for those also - every time I’m here the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and I’m in and out in about fifteen minutes (if that). Smog and registration can be electronically transmitted to DMV so you can be done-done with that process in one go. This is a great neighborhood non-chain auto shop and they’ve definitely earned my loyalty with consistent top-shelf service. Highly recommended.

Santa Monica Motors made my mandatory smog check easy breezy! I set an appointment in May and the second I got there, a lovely gentleman came up to my car and immediately took my info. He was masked up which I greatly appreciated. He asked me to pull my car over to the garage and there were clean chairs outside for customers to wait. I was told the smog check would take about 30 minutes so I was prepared to wait. But only about 6 or 7 minutes went by before I was told the work was all done! Checkout was a breeze as well. Of course, they sent off the results straight to the DMV electronically, no fuss, no muss. The whole process was seamless and I thank everyone there for treating me like a valued customer. I was surprised to see that my car needed a smog certificate before I could renew my registration. There weren’t many days to get it done in time for the deadline. After searching online for a place near me, I called one and the fellow there said they didn’t provide that service, and recommended the Smog shop at Santa Monica Motors. It was late afternoon when I left for there, concerned I’d run into a big line of folks after school let out, etc. When I arrived, I saw there were two bays doing smog tests and one was open. In went my car, while one very nice person handles the paperwork and another went right to work on my car. I was directed to a comfortable outdoor waiting area, and in no more than 10 minutes, my car was done, thankfully had passes and I went inside to the friendly cashier. I had downloaded a $10 off coupon, and my cost was $68. If I’d chosen to spend $39 more, she would have processed my registration renewal then and there. I’ve rarely been pleasantly surprised by an automotive business, but the Smog Shop at Santa Monica Motors did just that. Highly recommend this quick, professional and pleasant business!!!!

It was raining hard the day I went in. These guys were very kind and professional. It is obvious they work hard and like their job. I had to wait a bit because of the rain and my car needed to be put on the dyno since it is an older vintage car. There was a bit if a snag in terms of the price quoted and the true charge for my particular car but the owner gave me a generous discount and I was out of there by their 4PM Saturday closing time. Did a smog quickly and with very friendly service. Took vehicle to DMV for a Vin verification and when I popped the hood I noticed a battery cap was missing. I drove back to the smog shop thinking it might have fallen off there. They spent a good 10 minutes helping me look all over for it. Finally one of the mechanics grabbed a flashlight and found it way at the bottom of the engine compartment! To top it off they found another special screw that was missing and got a special tool to replace it! Fantastic customer service and I would recommend them to anybody.

These folks are amazing! They do out of state California car registration and it took hardly any time at all, my situation was unusual, I was moving the following week, and my title is staying with the lienholder out of state. All I needed was my ID, current out of state registration and proof of insurance, and the vin verification (they're just waiting on getting approval mailed back on this - they should be able to take care of this soon!) They took care of everything. Go give them your business and save yourself 7 hours at the DMV. The processing fee is worth it.

Without going into a lot boring details, it took years before finding the perfect place for my car that had developed a significant chronic issue. Seriously, I would Google, ask friends, etc., and each time was such a disappointment. But these guys correctly diagnosed the problem, made the repair, we talked briefly about the next service, and I was done. My car runs beautifully and I no longer worry about being stranded someplace because a mechanic either didn't care or know what they were doing. I went here because it's close to my work. There was no wait (around 12pm on a Wednesday). There's a waiting room with a water machine and some individual chairs. The service went faster than I expected although I may have lost track of time while reading a book. When I went to drive, some lights on my dashboard were on. The technician explained to me why and I went on with my day. I would give a higher score but I think the premium location rent prevents this place from charging less than $55 (after coupon) for a smog check. At least they're (Bob Rich) was really friendly

This place is absolutely awesome. Went on my lunch break to get a smog check. No line and the test was over in 10 minutes. I was also able to get my car registration done too - they even had the tags on site. It's seriously a mini-DMV with WAAAAY less hassle.
