I cannot say enough good things about Alternative Auto Care! I took my car there this week for brake repair, an oil change, and some electrical issues. Their evaluation process is so well documented and their service processionals are incredibly detail oriented. Jenny, their service lead, called and was extremely helpful and even suggested holding off on repairing one of the issues I came in for in an effort to save some money. I am so happy to have an LGBT+ business to support and now theres no one else I trust more with my car!

Not only did I feel comfortable with the issues/problems they found; I didn't feel taken advantage of like I was being ripped off. Their team is top notch and have perfected customer service. With all the work that needed done on my car, they were able to complete my car in a day! Maybe take this review with a grain of salt since I didn’t actually have the team at Alternative Auto do any repairs on my car after their diagnostic, but this is the best auto shop I’ve been to in Columbus so far. Friendly staff, fantastic communication, and clear explanations of the issues my vehicle had, which is unfortunately not my typical experience. I also appreciated the attention to detail in listing the severity of issues and outlining what REALLY needed to be taken care of ASAP. Will definitely be coming back if my next vehicle has any issues

Can absolutely recommend Alternative Auto Care. They did a great job on my very old car. Understood I needed to keep it for another year or so and did what was needed to keep it safe and running without trying to upsell stuff that needs to be done but not right now and perhaps not before I get a new one. Very courteous staff! Took the time to go over everything from the inspection! They do not pressure you to complete the work that is found on the inspection. If the services are too expensive then the customer has the right to take it somewhere else. This is not something that should be held against this shop. They provide a great service and use high quality parts. I would gladly return in the future if additional service is needed for my car.

They had some stunning customer service, and they did exactly what they said they would do. The only problem, I felt, was that their labour cost was roughly twice that of what I am used to. That could be because of the area and the speed at which they do service… but I felt it was a bit much. Still, a very lovely business, and I am proud to have supported a women owned and operated business!

They did an estimate for my Insurance company(Erie, who were also awesome). They did the repairs necessary including sweeping up the broken glass on my back seat. They were great

They text updated you a detailed review - with pics! something I had never seen at any auto repair shop. i’m never going anywhere ever again. they were unbelievably amazing. my car’s breaks went out, and during the inspection they let me know id be better off scrapping my car because of safety, and were so kind. they didn’t want me putting money into a dying car, and they didn’t let me! when i went in to give them the title they chit chatted with me a little and even said they’d grab the tags off my car for me for sentimental value, which was much appreciated for the bittersweet ending of the first car i bought on my own.

Quinn and Jenni were the absolute kindest humans and guided me through every step of the process while helping me prioritize my car’s needs within my budget. Disappointed is the best way to describe my experience with Alternative Auto Care. Initially, I really was happy with my experience. The staff was professional and enjoyable to interact with. I also have no issues at this time with the work done on my vehicle. My issue came later, once it came time to pay my bill and when insurance rejected a portion of the bill. It turns out Alternative Auto Care does not complete exhaust work themselves. Apparently they sublet this work to another, which leads to extra charges, around $400 dollars in my case. This lack of transparency is just disappointing from a company that claims to have the desire to earn trust. Knowing the catalytic converter had just been stolen, there were multiple chances to be transparent in your services, i.e. when I brought my car in with the issue, and when discussing the estimate a few days later. I’m sure it’s difficult for a business to turn down $400 for confirming the issue and then taking the vehicle elsewhere for the repair… I guess I understand that to a point but the lack of transparency has caused me to lose any trust I initially had. Ultimately, I should have asked more questions and read all the fine print. Long story, short, I wouldn’t trust Alternative Auto Care anymore than any other repair shop.

I was in the middle of a road trip and my battery light came on. I sensed that my alternator was probably going to give out if I didn't take it in soon. I immediately researched car repair shops near me, and Alternative Auto Care came up. I'm so happy I went there! They took care of my car the day of showing up to their shop. They were packed with a full schedule yet understood my out-of-towner, car-living situation and helped me out with a new alternator and belt, as well as an inspection into other potential issues my car was having or will have at a reasonable price. Having a woman-owned and operated shop to turn to is quite valuable and comforting (as a woman who doesn't want to be taken advantage of) in a time of need. Best service I've ever gotten from a mechanic!

This was such a wonderful experience, and I will be returning! Having my car serviced by only women was so affirming, and I actually feel like I know what piece of machinery I am operating! I went in for an oil change and a flush, and they gave me a full diagnostic with pictures and detailed descriptions that I could understand with ease, left Mardi Gras beads and candy in my car, offered to drive me home while I waited, pointed me in the direction of the nearest coffee shop to wait, and gave me quick and easy advice about next best services. I had a wonderful experience at Alternative Auto Care! I realized my headlight was out late in the day, and they were able to get me scheduled ASAP the next morning. They communicated with me regularly throughout the day to keep me current on the status of my vehicle. If you're looking for a local auto repair shop who is professional, courteous, and knows their stuff look no further. I called and spoke with C and she assisted me with scheduling my appt. I arranged to drop my car off over night and it was safe and sound. They were extremely knowledgeable and timely and most of all did not try to sway me to spend unnecessary money. I'm so glad I picked this repair shop. Everyone was so kind and helpful, everything they found and fixed was explained so that I could understand it while knowing nothing about cars, and I was sent a detailed report of everything they checked during their initial inspection with a very helpful breakdown of things in good condition, things that should be serviced soon, and things that needed immediate attention. They even worked late on a Friday so they could get me my car back before they closed for the weekend. I'm never going anywhere else.

This was my first time at Alternative Auto and I'm a fan! Their inspections were thorough and communication was excellent. Yes, they cost more than my usual go-to places, but I suspect I'm paying a true living wage for the employees and for top of the line tech. I appreciated the photos of everything that was wrong (I learned new car parts!) and that it was organized from "Needs Future Attention" to "Needs Immediate Attention." This way I can budget my repairs over the course of the next year.

Look no further. This is the last auto repair service provider you will ever need. The service and quality of their work is excellent. I took my vehicle to get all the drivetrain fluids replaced. Something I have been doing since I was a kid with my grandpa. The work was performed perfectly with authentic parts to the manufacturers specification. At the end they provided me with the report from their full car inspection. It matched all the remaining items on my personal to do list for the vehicle. They’re really paying attention here and watching for you. Don’t waste your time anywhere else. This is the place for you.

Truly OUTSTANDING service! Alternative Auto was so friendly and professional, and they did a very detailed technical analysis of my vehicle. I have a general distrust of mechanics, as I'm sure many other people do. In the past I've had work done at big-name repair shops, but this time I decided to try something local to see if the experience was any better. I could not be happier with the service I received at Alternative Auto Care! I needed repair work on the exhaust system in my car. I scheduled an appointment a week in advance. The work was completed on the same day that I dropped the car off. The costs were very reasonable - in fact, they completed the work for half of what I had budgeted. The staff was very professional and courteous. When all work was completed the staff did a courtesy check on my car. It seems common for a mechanic to call while working on my car and report other problems that need to be repaired. I often feel very pressured to have these repairs completed. Alternative Auto repair completed the courtesy check AFTER my repair work was done. I was given a printout of their diagnosis. I felt NO pressure to have this work done on the spot, let alone by that specific shop. I will be taking my car to Alternative Auto Care for future service needs!

The team here really goes above and beyond with the mechanic experience. I bought a junk care in a pirate dealership in Delaware. I had all the mistakes that you can have when you buy a car for the first time in US. I consider the car a big infinite hole of wasting money and the pirate dealership the worst place to buy a car. My fault. The positive thing about this car is that we met Alternative autocare and is one of the best thing that happened to me since I arrive to OH. If you don't know too much about mechanical issues it's easy to find and unethical mechanics that wanted to change all the break system(2700 US $) instead of 20 bucks pipe. This last sceneario is impossible in Alternative Autocare, they have a huge sense of ethics, professionality and good manners. Thank you team,you rocks!!!!!

Issue: Catalytic converter was stolen Hands down the best experience I've had with anything related to my car. These ladies are knowledgeable and kept me informed throughout the whole process. Got me in the day I called. I never felt talked down to like I had with other mechanics and dealers and such. I’m very likely going to make Alternative Auto my go-to mechanics after needing an easy fix on my car. Their professionalism and knowledge - as well as personalized care not common in the industry - makes Alternative a dependable resource to include as a go-to contact for all general car issues. As someone who’s always used locally-owned mechanics as low-cost spots to provide cheap jerryrigs when needed, I decided to see how well Alternative would do after I had been quoted with a middle-of-the-road price for my fix. I’m happy with the outcome, and - although it’ll take some getting used to - I am glad I paid more than I would’ve in the hood but less than what I would at a Big Name mechanic, for work that was fairly priced and executed well. I think a lot of negative reviews come from people who are used to dropping their car off at local mechanics to get pieces zip-tied together so their check-engine light turns off, all for less than $100. And for some cars and some fixes, that works, but if you need quality work done for somewhere around market prices, Alternative Auto Care is the place to go. The bottom line: Pass on Alternative Auto if you want the cheapest work done to your car for the cheapest price, but if you‘re looking for regular, friendly, altogether dependable mechanics while living in Columbus that will benefit you and your car in the long run - I highly advise checking these ladies out.

Even though I have not driven a car since 2007, Alternative Auto Care is still my favorite car-repair place. The staff is friendly and efficient; the quality of their work is always good. I periodically stop by Alternative Auto Care to visit whenever I am in the area. I remember, when I had been driving a car and periodically would need to bring in my car for service, that Alternative Auto Care had been able to delay an ultimately-very-expensive car repair for several years until that repair had absolutely needed to be done. A year or so ago I had a huge issue with my brakes and serpentine belt. They were able to get me squared away and the customer service was great. However, the price was extremely expensive compared to other shops, only to have continued issues. I was stuck and stranded without a car and was quoted over $700 for just the rear two brakes. I was also charged an additional fee for being unable to get the bolts off of my tires. I weigh 115 lbs and I am able to change a spare with a simple rachet set... Wish for better prices and durability

I can't even begin to describe what an amazing place there is. As a young woman with very little knowledge about cars, I walked in like a lost baby bunny and immediately was helped. The experience was great! It took awhile to figure it out, but that wasn't their fault, it was my car. But they did an awesome job keeping me informed on what was happening and show genuine concern for my car and it's well being and my well being. The issue was my car was intermittently not starting. They found out what the problem was and even got to the root of the problem. The root of the problem unfortunately due to an oil leak and fixed that as well because obviously it would cause more problems. I'm glad they looked deeper at the problem and found what really was wrong instead of putting a band-aid over the problem and then having more later. They found out a few answers to some other issues I have been having with my car and we are talking about our game plan for the next visit and how they can look it all over and prioritize everything. I have a 14 year old car with over 209,000 miles and understand that it needs care. They figured out my issue, but took it even further and figured out what it became an issue in the 1st place. They fixed both issues and I feel very confident in their work! My car has been great ever since and I am definitely taking it back to them in the future, not only for the needs that I know of for my car, but for any other unexpected needs and wants that will come up. I love this shop and you cannot go wrong taking your car to them and having them find the root problem and fixing it! Great service ladies! Thanks!

I used to go to the dealership to get my 2006 Ford Focus serviced. When my car need 60000 miles service,I thought maybe I can find a honest garage to lower my bill(my understanding is that dealer will charge more than a regular garage). I found this shop with good reviews. I brought my car in around 10:30AM, got the estimation around $340.00 around 1:00PM, sounds OK. When I went to pick up my car at 3:00PM(I need it to pick up my son), they didn't complete all the services yet, which is understandable. They completed inspections and oil change/tire rotation and asked around $200. all the leftover services they gave me another estimation, again $340.00. So my bill suddenly rose to $540.00. I didn't ask why since I'm in a hurry. I checked the bill and found oil change cost me around $50.00 and I immediately realized that their service are overpriced since I could get oil change done in dealership around $30.00. I cancelled my leftover service with this garage and went to the dealership to get them done with the bill $223.00(for example, this garage asked $90.00 for fuel filter change in estimation when the dealer only charged me $45). All in all, the services are overpriced. will not come back.

Alternative Auto Care is the best place I have ever taken my vehicle to for maintenance and repairs. There's really no comparison! They have always treated me with respect and fairness, and the mechanics are very careful to explain everything clearly. Also, I've had nothing but good experiences with their repairs. I needed some work done on my 2010 Toyota Corolla (rattling noise, new brakes, other general maintenance), but being somewhat knew to the area, I didn’t know who to take it to. After reading reviews online and reading about their story, I decided to bring it in to Alternative Auto Care. It’s always a little nerve racking with car maintenance bc you never know what anyone is going to tell you but I had an awesome experience here! They did a 50 point inspection where they took pictures over every “point” they looked at and send them to you and essentially describe if that part is in good condition or will need some kind of maintenance now or in the future. It really helps with just an overall better understanding of what your car is made up of (all the parts that you may never even knew existed). There was one hiccup when there was something wrong with my break calipers which I didn’t understand, but the owner (Kris) called me directly to explain to me what was exactly going on and it cleared up my confusion right away. It’s also really cool that all the employees are women! Jeni was easy to talk to and she gave you all the facts you needed to know and willing to answer any question. If you are unsure on where to bring your car, then I would definitley start here as they make you feel comfortable and I walked away knowing a lot more about my car. Also pricing is what I kind of expected and they didn’t push me to get anything that I didn’t truly need.

I procrastinated having my brakes looked at after grinding for a few days and, naturally, they became worse and worse leading right up to Christmas. I took my car to Alternative mid-afternoon on the 23rd of December, and every single one of the employees was friendly and in a great mood. One of the mechanics told me that if she couldn't get the parts to the garage early enough that night-- get this-- she would come in early on Christmas Eve to ensure I could make it home to my family for the holiday. Sure enough, she gave me the call early in the morning on the 24th to let me know the car was ready. It rides great now and the total price for services was beyond reasonable. We feared the worst, a lunched transmission, but it turned out that AAC was able to repair the transmission at a cost far less than the cost of replacement. Yesterday during rush hour my brakes locked up on 670 and I had to crawl off the highway to a parking lot. Look, I can tell you which cars have which features, tell you why certain design characteristics are attractive or not, and make fun of the Chevy Impala all day long, but I'd rather eat my own eyeball than open the hood of any vehicle. I found the closest Google result so I clambered the rest of the way with my hazard lights on and my middle finger out at the jerkoffs who couldn't take the 15mph-flashing-light-hint that something was wrong and kept flailing their arms at me. I walked into the shop and immediately was helped by Josselyn and Heather who made me feel a lot better about fixing the grinding sound that made me so sure I was about to combust. I left it overnight and picked it up today after hours because they stayed late to make the repairs since they don't reopen until Monday. It was 7:30pm and they still hadn't eaten lunch. I can backseat drive all day long but when it's time for maintenance, I don't know the first thing about that stuff. I never leave reviews for companies or even bother recommending them to friends, but I hope all of your cars break down so that you get to experience Alternative Auto Care for yourself; hands down the most forthright, kind, adept automotive repair shop I've ever dealt with. They even gave me a candy bar and made me care (a little bit) about brake shoes or socks or some damn thing that gets me back on the road. Lastly, this is an all-women run business with huge support for LGBTQ clientele and the local neighborhood as a whole. I'm thankful to have found them! 5/5, would crash into a wall to hang out with them again. Shop small, support local!

Due to our time crunch of having to make it to the venue the next day, Jocelyn went above and beyond, pulling late hours for us. I have a 2003 Buick Regal GS SC that had been intermittently throwing the same code over and over for six months. Three different shops (and a craigslist driveway mechanic) made attempts at it, all of them failed. After over $600 worth of parts, the problem worsened considerably.
