Over the last four or five years I have had two separate mechanics tell me I needed my ball joints replaced among other issues which totaled several thousand in repairs. Both times I have sought a second opinion from Zia Auto Repair and both times they told me my vehicle was in great shape and to save my money. I’ve had tons of work done here and have always felt I was treated fairly. Great shop. Definitely recommend

After being unable to get my car into Nissan I was referred to Zia Auto. I was a little hesitant to try somewhere new, but I'm so grateful for the outcome. Chuck was the worker upfront that directly worked with me. He was extremely helpful and informative. I was expecting the repairs to take much longer, but I had my vehicle back in 3 days! Everyone was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and enjoyable to work with. They were kind and made a stressful situation much more manageable. I appreciate that they addressed the issue I went in for without trying to add other things in like most places do to you. I would with out a doubt, highly recommend them!!

Chuck was great at explaining the issues they ran in to and bent over backwards to get my car fixed up at the original quote that he gave (even after extra issues popped up). Awesome place. I had taken my car to two other places and they couldn't figure out what the problem was. I worked with Chuck and he was very professional and confident that they could find the problem. They found the problem quickly and fixed it in the same day. Awesome service. Also got a detailed summary texted to me afterwards. They really went above and beyond and took pictures of everything. Definitely didn't cost as much as it would've at a dealership so that's a plus as well.

I scheduled an online appointment with Zia Automotive. Apparently their online portal doesn't sync up very well with their in store platform. Scheduling was a bit of a challenge and they asked when I got there if I could leave my only vehicle for the day. Frustrated I took an Uber to the mall hoping it wouldn't be long. They call me 2 hours later and told me it was ready. People where friendly and ready to help. The end results though were helpful but not very indepth.

Update to the Update: It was great to see Chuck Mitchell from the old Ethridge Tire and Auto at Zia as a service advisor now! They were able to replace a malfunctioning ABS sensor the same day. Thank you! Update: One thing that I did discover is that Zia is apparently not familiar with malfunctioning anti-theft systems that cause a car to not start. After trying to find out from their service department why my car just stopped operating, twice, without any help from Zia, I finally bit the bullet and took my auto to the dealership service department which found the code pointing to the malfunctioning anti-theft system and then fixed my car. Zia did great with all my other auto repair needs. One caveat is that they do not deal with malfunctioning anti-theft systems that cause a vehicle to stop operating. Zia has been very helpful in the past when mechanics at another automotive repair shop made a mess of my vehicle. Zia got it up and running after some work. I was concerned about my charging system. In addition, my vehicle also needed an oil change, today. I was much more worried about the charging system. It turns out that that was an easy fix for Zia (thankfully). Also, changed my oil and oil filter quite efficiently. I know I am in good hands when I bring my car to the mechanics and service writers at Zia Auto Repair.

They’ve been really reasonable about pricing, they’ve always explained exactly what they are doing and charging me for, and I feel respected and listened to. He new I needed my Jeep done ASAP and informed me of progress every step of the way. When I picked up my Jeep everyone there was so friendly and informative. After experiencing some troublesome noises from my 2003 vehicle, I decided to look up a reputable, AAA approved, ASE repair shop to diagnose my vehicle. Service advisor Sean was extremely helpful (and patient) over the phone as I explained the issues my car was having and schedule me an appointment for an inspection. When I arrived at the shop the following day to provide him more details and a video of the issue demonstrating the noise, he and his staff were quickly able to eliminate my fears of a demon lurking under my hood and informed me it was something far less sinister; RFI noise due to old wiring. A quick test drive and an informative conversation later, I was on my way, faith restored in my cars abilities to take on the next 20 years. The professionalism and knowledge of the employees at this repair shop is 5-star, top-notch all around. Highly recommend.

I decided to return to Zia Automotive Repair because they have good ratings and do a good job. They fixed my car by replacing a part. It is working very well so far. They are expensive but I trust they know how to fix cars. Chuck was very friendly and kept me informed of the process. I would return again just need to have money saved for potential car repairs. A few weeks earlier: We took my son's car he had just bought for some minor repairs. They found the transmission was bad and recommended another shop. They did not charge us for this and that was great. A couple weeks later we took it back to get two lug nuts put on it. The studs were broken off. They charged $400. They said it took them two hours to do it. They did a good job but I think it was too expensive for what it was. Also the car had a large scratch on one of the doors it did not have when we dropped it off.

Very helpful. (2017 Nissan Sentra SR) My car wouldn't turn over, it had stayed in a parking lot for a day or so. Until I finally just sent a tow truck. Due to me being at work, I was a bit scared on where my car could've ended up. Once getting a moment away from work, I called in to see that my car did in fact go to the right location. Not only did it get there without any problems and/or damage, they had already started to inspect. To try and get an idea of what the problem may be. Once confirming that the phone number i was calling from was okay to contact, they gave me updates about my car. Being understanding I was at work (and the fact I need reliable transportation to and from). My car is up and running again, I'm so appreciative towards these men who worked so hard on her. My A/C was out and had taken it to 2 other places prior. They were able to get me in same day which is huge now a days all other places were scheduling out 2-4 weeks. They were quick found and fixed my problem. Would definitely recommend and return need be. The only thing was it was a little more expensive than a small shop but overall worth it.

This was probably the BEST experience I have had with auto repair anywhere! Zia Automotive is in one word, AWESOME! I started having issue with my Jeep Cherokee. The dealership wanted around 3k to do the job and the part was back ordered for 3 months. I called and talked to Sean at Zia and he was able to locate the part in a few hours (slightly used - 2 miles) and had it in house the next day and quoted half the cost of the dealership. Brought my car in the next day and they had it ready 2 days later. On top of all that they even gave me a loaner car to drive while they worked on mine. Sean and his team are very good and knowledgable as well as communicated with me the whole time. They have my auto repair business for life as well as anyone else I can recommend to go there!

I brought my car in because I had a problem with one of my windows. I made an appt the day before, and they saw me promptly at that time. They were upfront about wait times and cost estimates, which I really appreciated. I stayed in their lobby area, which was clean and comfortable. They are also conveniently located off of Menaul near some fast food businesses if you want to go for a walk or get something to eat/drink. I was happy with the service and would come back again.

Zia repaired my 2011 Toyota Prius that had a problem with a brake booster. They had to work with my extended warranty company, order and wait for the part, and then do a complicated install. Rather than simply return the vehicle they did a test drive and discovered a problem. It turned out the new part was defective and they had to order a second one, wait for it, take out the defective replacement, and put the newer part in. Another test drive showed no problems and they returned the car to me. The price was around $1700 of which I only had to pay my $250 deductible because they worked with my extended warranty company. The process took 3 weeks and I considered giving only 4 stars due to the time delay, but I judge that to be beyond their control and they did excellent work and also caught the defective replacement part and fixed that. Great work and value.

Considering I own a Z4 BMW an Audi TT Quattro and a Jeep Rubicon Unlimited it should say something especially since I used to turn a wrench for a living and I'd just rather pay Zia to do it better and faster!

I was recommended to this business by AAA. They were open on Saturday which is a huge plus for me. They found and fixed a leak I’ve had for years now but no one else could find it. Fixed the belt and of course changed the oil. They talked to me like a person, which is not what a lot of mechanics do, especially since I’m a woman and I know a bit about my car. Will be making an appointment, on a Saturday, in a few months to have my brakes done. A customer for life.

I arrived with a long list of concerns. The Zia shop has moved to a new large location, but has retained their original customer friendly, professional and honest values which had impressed me years ago. The thorough inspection and diagnostics of many mechanical and electrical systems I thought needed repair was provided within a day. The mechanics and service writer communicated clearly and provided me detailed information. I was given estimates for required work and a separate list of things that can be done later. The required repairs were done quickly and affordably. I am very happy with my experience and will have the remaining repairs done at Zia Auto Repair.

I took my Honda Civic in for service because the dealership said the AC needed to be replaced. I didn’t trust them so I took it to Zia Automotive to get a second opinion. It turned out the AC did need to be replaced, but Zia Auto said they would do it for $400 less!! This was huge for me, because it was an expensive maintenance requirement. The same day I dropped it off they had my car fixed and returned to me. The air conditioner is working great, and they replaced my serpentine belt for free, just because the noticed that it needed to be replaced. This is what I call going above and beyond for the customer. Alex and Sean are very professional, and they offer a 10% military discount which is very nice. I would highly recommend Zia Automotive to anyone who needs quality vehicle maintenance done at an affordable price.

Very positive experience today. We broke down on I-40 and AAA recommended this place. We also looked at some reviews and they were good. We had our car dropped off and were able to get to our hotel. The next morning at 7:30 we were on their doorstep. Amazingly they took us right in and the technician showed up at 8 and quickly diagnosed our problem. They were able to replace some radiator hoses and we were on our way. The staff Shawn and Yvette were very accommodating and professional. My sister-in-law needed to have her brakes looked at so I said let's trade Vans and have them replace your rotors and pads. They came back and said there was 40% left and said they didn't need to be done right now but will eventually need to be done. They did find a cracked thermostat housing that has been causing some overheating problems. So we let them do that and again great service nail to Van are back on the road. Highly recommended thank you so much!

Took my vehicle in after waiting over a month at a different mechanic shop to get it diagnosed and they failed....took it to zia automotive and the very next day they figured out the problem no time wasted. I was happy to work with these guys, they took on my warranty work and found a separate issue that I would have over looked. I’m happy they advocated for me and I as able to fix the second issue with my car. On the way home I had a hose pop off unrelated to to the warranty work, I called them up and they were able to find the problem, fix it and give me advice About the issue. However, during the repair this problem occurred that could significantly increase the repair cost. The Zia team were really cooperative in handling this unexpected issues. Then when I needed major work done they gave me options on the best way to go forward which helped save me the most money. They put my concerns first above all else. I reserve 5 stars for very special companies that go above and beyond. I was traveling on I-25 and having intermittent issues, as I'd come to a stop the vehicle would die. As I pulled into Belen (Friday after 6 pm) the vehicle died and would not restart. Ended up calling AAA and the nearest location that would be open on a Saturday was Zia Automotive. Joe and the rest of the team spent almost 4 hours on multiple diagnoses and couldn't find anything wrong. My car needed serious repairs to pretty much everything underneath and inside my front passenger tire. So far I am fairly pleased; one thing however did disappoint me.. my car has all black rims, and in repairing my rim they said they were unable to replace it with another black rim and gave me a silver one. When I asked if there was anything they could do about this, the gentleman at the shop relied, no we don’t do anything like that here but at least your car Is drivable and ready to be picked up. I kind of have a “black edition” thing going on with my car, and the silver rim really throws that off and looks tacky honestly... I understand if they were not able to find another black rim, but the lack of concern to help me fix this issue is what disappointed me. If there is any way you personally can help me with this, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you for everything.

They kept my car a little longer than expected so they could evaluate the noise, which turned out to be a loose pulley. My car broke down Saturday evening. The only place open Sunday was Pep-Boys, so I took my car there and told them that it was likely a problem with my ignition switch or starter. They charged me $19 for a diagnostic to test the starter and battery, told me that both were fine, and then got my car running. It died again a few hours later and they told me that my engine had likely seized. I took my car to Zia Auto Repair on the recommendation of the tow truck driver and AAA Monday morning. They were able to verify that the starter and the battery had gone bad, that my engine was fine, and were able to complete the repair by that afternoon. I've been driving it for a few days now and it is not giving me any problems. They even replaced a corrosive cable that was likely the reason for the last starter failing and assured me that the battery and repairs are under nationwide warranty in case anything happens when I head home in a few months. I will be bringing my car back here for any work that needs to be done as long as I'm in town. I trust that Sean and the crew will do excellent work and give me a straight answer.

Setting: 5th wheel trip in a 2016 F-250 from SW NM to CO. Me, wife, 2 kids, a Pomeranian, and a kitten we just rescued. Heading to CO to spread my wife’s grandmother’s ashes on what would have been her 91st birthday. After getting all new tires in Los Lunas, 2 miles down the I-25 at 7pm, check engine light starts flashing, A/C goes out, and truck is shaking a bit. Limp it into ABQ, get a hotel for the night as no mobile mechanics are available and all mechanics are closed. Look up repairpal as I thankfully have a warranty on the truck. Closest one to my hotel is Zia. Limp the truck there and they are completely booked. Thankfully, Sean takes the OBD reader to the truck, says it should be a quick fix, and that he’ll get me in. Even when he didn’t have to. Thanks for helping out a road weary dad/disabled vet when you didn’t have to. I truly appreciate it.

I had my car taken to Zia Automotive repair, because they're a Triple A approved shop. My car had broken down on the interstate in the middle of the night, while I was driving home from work. Zia repaired my car the next day; they didn't make me wait for days, and days before starting work on my car. Zia gave me a fair price, and excellent, professional service. Just to be approved by Triple A, says something good to begin with. They have to do good quality work, at a competitive price.The shop has to have good friendly, professional service. He even took off the inspection fee which was $106. I cannot say too much about these folks they treated me like I was family. So I’m basing this review from buying a car on the other side of the house. I purchased a 2012 Honda Crosstour, and I loved it. When if got dark the light would not eliminate and it became a safety issue, I called left message for James. I did call again that morning, James was surprised asked if I could bring it in, and knew I was working so he told me I would use a loaner to get to work until the end of the day. He called me later and told me that he was just going to put all new lights. Then when I came in I was greeted by Alex (service mgr) told me the lights that where in the car were aftermarket cheap Chinese version, and he did show me what they where, and I agree with him. I wasn’t able to check the lights till this morning, and I have to say KUDOS to the team as they mad everything right. I will continue to come back, and if you read this review know I did read all reviews, and even had a man at Sams club tell me (as I am filling my new Car) then he would never buy from Zia (I’m assuming a disgruntled customer. This place has done right by me for the most part. The bottom line is that this is a great shop. If you do enough repeat business with someone mistakes will happen. This is just a fact that has to be accepted. They do great work and James is a very honest, ethical, and respectful business owner. I had almost let an honest breakdown in communication cause me to forget this. Everyone makes mistakes — customers and professionals alike. I work as a highly skilled carpenter myself and I know that these things do happen. Read on if you’re interested in what happened with me, but otherwise take the first paragraph as gospel. This is probably the best shop in town. I’m only mentioning the communication breakdown to put it all in context. My expectations were not met and I got upset because nobody told me to modify my expectations. I do accept and carry part of the blame for what I failed to do before taking my vehicle in, but this miscommunication regarding my ‘98 Yukon really caused me a lot of stress, and I overreacted. For this I apologize. However I do want to use this edit as an opportunity to give them some honest, constructive feedback. This would have all been avoided if the people at the shop had been more forthcoming, and had been understanding and respectful of my decision to install the MAF sensor and battery myself. They never argued with me about it, but every single person I spoke to brought this fact up. While I was never able to get them to admit outright that they resented me for my decision to replace two parts in the street outside the shop, they made it pretty clear between the lines. This is my own financial decision, that I made based on the amount of money I had. What I will never do is agree to any service that I cannot afford, and I could not afford to spend an additional $700 that wouldn’t have done anything for the misfire. One thing I disagree with is the analogy that James used in our subsequent phone conversation. What I did is nothing like bringing your own food to a restaurant, but rather more like sitting down with a big group where everyone just orders appetizers. They were anticipating a big invoice and I couldn’t afford it. I didn’t like being made to feel guilty for trying to be smart with my money. I still gladly paid the diagnostic fees and consider that to be the reason I brought the vehicle in. It seems like my decision to just bring the vehicle in for diagnostic work didn’t sit well with them. They wanted me to order the porterhouse and a bottle of Dom and I just ended up ordering a salad to go. I could tell they weren’t happy about this, but we millennials just don’t have the luxury of getting rid of our problems by throwing money at them. They should be grateful and honored that I choose to spend any amount of money on their services out of all the different places I could go. I don’t like feeling like they resent me for wanting to keep my costs to a minimum. I don’t do my own work on my vehicle because I enjoy it. I hate it. I do it because I’m a millennial who makes about $600 a week and I can’t be dumping entire paychecks into minor repairs. So, in conclusion, if you’ve actually taken the time to read all this here is the real truth. They are a very good shop and they do very good work, but if you’re like me and DIY as much as possible to save money, they may become hostile toward you if you get too specific about what you want. I should have done the routine maintenance ahead of time but I work full time and right now it’s cold and gets dark early. I didn’t consider that it would be a problem, and definitely not a point of contention. Keep that in mind if you’re one such DIY inclined individual.

Alex will take good care of the customers. If something is covered under manufacturer warranty, he won't try to take you for a ride to make money off you- he will refer you back to them. I went to Midas who wanted to $900 to fix something, but Alex said it was covered under the manf warranty which was free. He pays attention to his customers and will also check under any extended warranty you have.

ZIA is fair and honest on pricing. ZIA honors AAA discounts. We were so pleased with the service we received, we took our 2009 Hyundai Sonata in for a brake inspection. We really appreciated the inspection results (with photos) being sent via email. Helped us make the decision to replace the struts and shocks as well as authorize the brake job and wheel alighment.
