They have been fighting the decisions of my claims which we think are unfair and unmerited. My representative was Stephanie Costello. She helped me appeal for an increase in compensation and I was awarded 100% service connected from her appeal. It is best to have an agency certified by the VA which shows they understand the intricacies of filing a claim. I attempted the process myself and described the results as showing up with a “knife” to a “gunfight”. You on your on is no match for the huge VA machine who denies veterans everyday for any small error. Berry Law Firm is the help you need. They bring credibility to the process. Erin Wetzel and I have been working together for over three years in regards to custody of my daughter. We had an hour long consultation the first time meeting together and I was extremely impressed at the information she could show me, the insight she gave me on why other firms weren't able to get done what I was hoping and a clear plan of action on how we should proceed. I'm familiar with the unfortunate part where once an attorney receives your trust payment all of that communication you had before you hired them goes away. That was never the case when working with her. She was always very prompt with her responses and if I had any questions on why we were doing something she took the time to explain in terms I could understand. That greatly added peace of mind through the emotional process of child custody. She very quickly made sure my daughter and I were protected after I hired her with an ex-parte protection order. My ex subsequently filed a retaliatory protection order against me, which Erin was able to get dismissed quickly. There were other times where a decision hadn't been made on something extremely important before a holiday break and Erin or her assistant would call the courthouse and speak to the bailiff, the bailiff would help by keeping her informed and she would relay that information to me. After some time had passed we were able to come to an initial custody agreement with my ex that I had requested. Unfortunately though a year and half later things had gotten bad again and we had to go back to court. I felt confident that I would be able to get full custody of my daughter this time around due to the previous work Erin had done for me. She cooperated very will with the other attorney(s) that my ex had, she made sure that they were aware of the evidence we had and what would be submitted BEFORE discovery was due. That was an excellent strategy on her part in ultimately helping to reach a full legal and physical custody agreement that I had been trying to get since my daughter was two, my daughter was seven when I finally got full custody. Erin was always very good at reminding me of when everything needed to be filed, and would remind me of documents I hadn't gotten to her yet if there was a deadline approaching. She worked very differently in all the best ways than previous attorneys I had. I always talked with her, never her assistant. .Just to get this part out of the way, I was not asked nor paid for a review. Berry Law changed my life and I am indebted to them and felt they deserve the best review I could possible write. After receiving my denial letter from the VA I called over a dozen big name law firms based of a Google search. Everyone was a total waste of time, only looking for the big high dollar cases. The second they heard I had a job they couldn’t get off the phone quick enough. Along the way someone suggested Berry Law. I wasn’t in the mood to continue wasting time but decided to try them. They contacted me by phone like the others and started asking screening questions, I wasn’t really putting a lot into the answers thinking this is a waste but I was driving and bored so I used the call to pass the time. When we got to the employment part I asked if she was going to hang up now and I guess she thought I was crazy and said “no, why”. Two days later I got a call saying they would like to take my case. They emailed a very simple contract that even this West Virginia country boy could understand. I signed it giving them power of attorney and authorizing them to represent me. The next day I received a bunch or attachments to fill out about my case and issues. A few days later I returned the filled out forms and Berry Law went to work. On Feb 22 I sent the last of my “buddy letters” to Berry Law. Mid-March I received a letter from the VA wanted more information (just making things harder on me in hopes I would give up). This review should have been posted a year ago. Will Harris assisted me with my Security Clearance issue with my position. I'll keep this simple - skip the big name law firms on the East and West Coasts. They will try to get you to go to a hearing and their % of taking of the "Intent to Deny Eligibility" rebuttal is in the 30 percentile! You'll find that most places charge about/around $1,500 for clearance rebuttals - if you're going to make a bet on your career, take it to Berry Law Firm where they have over a 90%+ success rate on the rebuttal vs 30%. I spoke to several of the attorneys initially before being passed to Will but they were always professional and after finding out I was a veteran, followed through on every phone call, message, etc. Will is also a JAG Officer in the Guard so he really was (and is) the perfect fit and knows the systems/processes extremely well for security clearances. My clearance was approved in the rebuttal process (no need for a hearing/more $$) and resulted in saving my job and a plan for the future.
