My husband and I moved to North Carolina about 2 years ago. We already had a Will from a different state but it needed to be updated. My husband called the office that originally drew up our Will but, since we were now out of state, we needed to find a North Carolina office. We wanted peace of mind, knowing that our estate (big or small) would not end up in a probate court making things very difficult for our daughter. We called the office of Chris Craig of Craig Associates and Susannah answered the phone. We asked questions, she asked questions and then gave us information to think about. We discovered that a Will can easily be contested by itself but a Living Trust and Will together is much more difficult, if not impossible, to contest. Chris took us through the documents, explaining things and answering all questions we had while going through everything. Chris, Savannah and Patti were excellent to work with and we now have legal documents, nicely bound that includes everything our daughter will need to know. I'm not sure I'll be able to express how grateful I am for the work Christopher Craig did and the help he gave me. My mother passed away leaving a VERY complicated estate. Chris was referred by another lawyer (out of state) from a question I posted on Avvo regarding adopting my step-daughter. I was looking for advice after having paid for a consultation with another lawyer who was asking for a large deposit and said he "couldn't guarantee that the adoption would even go through". I Googled Chris and called him to see if he could help. Not only did he get me in for a consultation within 24 hours, he very simply explained the entire process to me. I knew what he needed from me, how the process would go, and roughly how long it would all take. He showed me the various legal codes that applied to the situation and turned the legal jargon into laymen's terms so that I wouldn't feel as overwhelmed as I was at the start of everything. From there, it was literally a matter of providing the paperwork and paying my invoices. Chris handled everything, eliminating any stress I had previously been feeling about the situation. I started my adoption on April 22, 2022. It was finalized on July 21, 2022 (which included a 41-day waiting period that was required as part of my particular process). What started as a daunting and uncertain endeavor became very streamlined and effortless (on my end) thanks to Chris. He was easy to talk to, understanding, and empathetic. His confidence in his own professional experience made me feel entirely at ease that he would get it done. Thinking about and planning for the possibility of a medical incapacity and the inevitability of death is scary so I was nervous and I didn’t know what to expect, but Chris immediately put me at ease. First, he took the time to learn about me, my family, and my goals. We spoke at length about who and what is important to me. He understood my fears, what matters to me now, and my hopes for the future - both for myself and my loved ones. Even though my estate is modest, it always felt like I was his most important client.
