Customer service her is great. Very friendly staff. As a photographer you will jump for joy when you walk in just like a car enthusiast will at a car dealership. They do rentals and also classes. They also do custom puzzles.

Midwest Photo has been an absolute pleasure to work with. As a videographer/photographer who is starting out, it can be difficult to find reliable rentals for a reasonable price. Midwest has done a marvelous job of making sure that I can get my hands on the gear that I need and when I need it. I also print all of my pictures here because it is fairly priced and my prints turn out very true to what I captured. While it does take longer it is well worth the wait. I have had bad experiences with one hour prints at other establishments where all my pictures end up being supersaturated and grainy. On the contrary, my photos printed from Midwest were as sharp as they were when they were on my computer. I am very pleased with my experiences here and will continue to bring my business here.

We flew in from Minnesota for a brief production and needed gear as soon as possible. Midwest Photo went above and beyond in helping our production get exactly where it needed to be and more. Great modern camera store with incredibly friendly staff. They stock all kinds of new and used camera equipment and tons of accessories. Are their used cameras and lenses slightly more than you'd pay on eBay? Sure. But you can guarantee they work and have been cleaned and tested. To me that's worth it. I try to stop there every time I pass through Columbus.

Wow I was truly impressed! I had no idea this store was here. I returned a rental for a company that I help out on occasion. When I walked through the door I was blown away. I found out that they have used equipment for sale and you can even trade in your old. It looked to me like about everything you would need to take a picture or video would be in the store. Normally my camera shopping experience has been done online or at Best buy. I'm pretty sure to say that whatever you need in photography they will be able to supply it most likely in their store. I would say they had to have several hundred thousands of dollars in inventory.

Usually order my camera ancillaries online from one of the high profile stores in NY. Fortunately for me, this time neither had what I needed in stock but Midwest Photo did and I was treated to one of the best buying experiences ever. Ordered a spare Nikon Z9 battery on Monday (Memorial Day mind you) and it arrived Wednesday afternoon! Fantastic communication throughout the process from order placement right through tracking and delivery. Cant say enough good things about the experience from start to finish. Midwest Photo should be the standard of how other camera shops are judged!

Decided to venture out into Midwest Photo, since I've purchased my 85mm lens from them online. This store = fantastic!!! Being a photographer and a streamer, I turned into a kid in a candy store the minute I walked inside the store. The staff there are pleasant to talk to and willing to help you out with any questions you may have in regards to your photography needs. I went there to purchased a triple flash mount for my tripod and it fits wonderfully. I may have went there for that item only, but you better believe I will be back inside real soon, as I now have various of ideas for both my streaming and photography needs.

UPDATE [2017] I’m not sure if it’s because I complained a while ago but for the last year or so I’ve received good to incredible service. The staff has specialized knowledge so instead of expecting each person to be able to answer your questions, try asking “Who should I talk to about ____?” and they will introduce you to an expert who can speak passionately about the topic or product. They’ve redone their website so it’s way easier to navigate. Overall, their new building, staff, and site have improved the quality of my customer experience and I’m no longer hesitant to endorse their services. [2015] Awful customer service! Disorganized website and links. The staff is often misinformed and rude. On their best days, they are apathetic and lethargic. I wish I didn't have to use them but they have a monopoly on Columbus photography equipment. If they just gave one damn about any customer, I would instantly give them 2 more stars. I've been in the store dozens of times over the past 4 years and I've only been greeted once! It insane that these people are in business.

This store is amazing! I just got started shooting bw film and wanted to develop my own film at home, I went to the store and Mike helped me and walked me through what chemicals & equipment I needed to get started. Mike was extremely helpful and I successfully developed my film for the first time!! This store has everything from film to cameras to lights so I would HIGHLY recommend!

This place - a hidden gem in the Columbus area!!! I'm from much closer to Cleveland but I wanted to get my body/lens combo calibrated and this place was the only place I could find. The staff were amazing! Genuinely helpful and knowledgeable. The store is plenty big enough. Check out their smoke grenades while you're there! They were very honest and gave me great advice for what the service I came in for. They actually recommended going a different route, because it was a better option for me. If you're new or experienced, check them out. They seem to have a ton of regular customers and have been in business for many years from my understanding, and I'm sure that won't change soon!

My favorite camera store in the Columbus area. The entire staff is helpful and knowledgeable. It's obvious that they enjoy their work and are passionate about photography. Nobody has ever tried to upsell me - they care about finding the product that will best meet my needs. This store has a huge selection of cameras, lenses, and accessories (including film). They cater to amateurs and professionals. Their rental department is amazing - I've used them several times. They also offer classes and other learning events. Their printing service is high quality and priced competitively. In short, I have no complaints.

4 years after I bought a flash light stand, I needed some parts for it as the screw became loose and I lost them. I called mpex store and Mike patiently listened to even though he was already on his way to lunch. He then suggested me to wait for a day to get parts. Later he shipped them free of charge. The place was busy on a Tuesday morning which is a good sign. They have lots of cameras and supplies. The staff was very friendly and helpful and easy to find. I stopped in for a camera sensor cleaning, and they did it reasonably fast considering that I just walked in.

I first went to this place when it was in an old church on High Street. The older gentleman who ran it then was extremely kind and knowledgeable, and it left a great impression on me. So recently, when I decided to return to my hobby of film photography, I sought out this place to pick up supplies for my new (to me) Minolta. The new facilities are clean and well organized, compared to the previous location, and there are plenty of supplies for both film and digital photography. And reasonable prices. There are also more staff than I remember, and the man who helped me was very friendly and seemed to know what he's doing. Apparently, the former owner's son is now running the place, and I think he's done a good job updating the business, including a new website where you can place orders. The new location isn't as "hip" as the former location, but this is a good example of a local business that deserves our support.

Midwest's new location is right off 71 at Weber. It's an incredible expansion for a really fantastic local store. They've got anything you could need for photography, be it digital, video or print, and their staff is second to none. Not only are they incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, but they're friendly, real people who are excited about sharing their love of photography. Not a single person on staff is unwilling to help, regardless if you're there for a $5000 camera or $5 lens cloth. Plus, with the new expansion they've added a really fantastic classroom area for their great classes. They offer classroom learning for beginners and experts alike, sharing the latest techniques and tricks to make your photos go from good to great. They also now have a rentable darkroom which is great when you want to dust off your old film camera and shoot a few rolls to bring back the glory days of photography!! Their prices are great. Their staff is amazing. Their store is accessible and clean. Before you shop online, go to Midwest!!

I went there with the express intention of buying a Nikon Lens. The store was worth the trip up from central Columbus. It’s well stocked and spacious. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly... I got my lens and a few other things .. we talked ..it was a good time. If you are a studio photographer just coming into Columbus... they have printing available And a nice selection of lighting gear with plenty of Light Box gear to suit your needs along with static lights and flash units too.

High quality print reproduction and enlargement at walk-in brick and mortar is harder and harder to come by these days. I don't care for mail order because you hardly ever know what you're getting. When I went to Midwest Photo for digital image enlargement, I didn't know exactly what I wanted and I was in a hurry; in other words, I was a potential customer from hell. The staff here is incredibly professional and helpful. I described what I wanted and staff member Ethan answered all of my questions, showed me sample stock and explained differences, explained what the optimal enlargement for my digital image would be, and professionally packaged the results. The enlargements are perfect. I could not have asked for better service and I'm so pleased. I plan to return here again and again for any service they provide that I need.

We purchased our items without any consultation and attempted to set up on our own and had a difficult time, the people of Midwest photo did everything in their power to help us out. Two weeks back I went to purchase new D750 with Kit lens from Midwest. I also wanted to trade my old DSLR Camera. Sales person was very good and kind. He explained me about D750 and other full frame cameras. When I asked him lots and lots of questions related to D750, he answered all the questions. Sales Person are very knowledgeable and honest. I was offered best price in the town for my trade in old camera. After purchase experience: After a week, I noticed small black mark and took camera back. Technical person took a look tired to clean the black mark and we could see black mark. I requested to exchange for new camera and they were happy to get me a new camera. Now I know where to go for all my camera needs in Columbus. Its only one shop Midwest Photo Exchange.

I called the store and spoke to Mat who is an in house large format expert and he hooked me up with the right cords I needed to hook my camera up to a Canon 430 EX flash! I needed a last minute rental while in town photographing a wedding. I called Midwest and spoke with TJ. I explained my dilemma to him and while he had other customers in the store and politely asked to give me a call back. TJ called me after the store had already closed for the day to help me out. Even being from out of town he wanted to make sure I was set up to succeed and work out where I was able to ship back the rental since I was returning home on Sunday when they are closed. When I went to pick up the rental I was greeted and helped by Aaron. The whole team at Midwest Photo has a great attitude and were very willing to help out. If you need help with anything camera or video and you are within driving distance of Midwest Photo I highly recommend this place.

Overall a good local place, BUT make sure you open the box and check everything to make sure you are buying new vs. demo or returned. I trusted them on a recent purchase ( was in a hurry) and sure enough, camera lenses and accessories had all been opened, possibly used? Email went unanswered. I’ll know better next time.

My buddy and I drove from Cincinnati to visit and shoot a bit in Columbus, with the intention on looking at some medium format options. We expected the run of the mill camera store, maybe with some different offerings than our local store. What we found was an amazing camera store with a fantastic selection and excellent customer service. Tom helped us all the way though, showing me some different medium format options and my buddy a few 4x5 lenses for his current camera project. Any questions Tom couldn't answer (very, very, very few) Matt was able to chime in on. They, the fine folks at Midwest, take customer service seriously and it shows. They can get busy, so bring your patience and understanding that the world doesn't revolve around you - and you'll have a great time (guess that applies for a lot of situations ;-) ). Prices on used gear are spot on with market and on discussing it driving home, even if the prices had been higher it would have been worth it since we a) got to hold and inspect the merchandise in person & b) got to support a brick and mortar camera store. We walked out with a gorgeous Fuji GW690 III and a 210mm Rodenstock lens and a smile on our faces. Thanks Midwest, we'll be back as soon as we can!

Not what it used to be. Has converted into a big box store. It's nice and open, great for looking for the newest big three camera releases, but all of their used and vintage glass is behind counters, impossible to browse, and they don't sell adapters for popular vintage to modern pairings. Other stores do a much better job catering to niche and specialist photographers. Store is perfectly adequate for picking up a new Canon or Nikon kit for retail. Lost a lot of its small store charm. This is a shame.

I've loved Midwest Photo's exceptional service from their website, but it was a real treat to visit their new store location. They have a great selection of in floor lighting, bags, lighting equipment, go pro merch and much more. There's plenty of lenses and cameras to look at behind their sales counter, and this being their main hub now for all their online sales, if your can't find it, they likely have it somewhere they can get to pretty quick. We had a small dispute over a shipping time and I received a phone call from a friendly representative who worked with me on a compromise that made me very happy. Frankly I do not understand how anyone can say the quality is anything but what the manufacturers' provide. If you buy Nikon, Canon... you know what you are getting--they do not make the cameras! If you buy used gear there you are free to talk to the staff about it, many of whom are photographers as well. Not sure about those who complain about the service, I would say those who do, would also likely complain about a crowded restaurant. I have called the store up numerous times asking their opinion concerning lenses and other potential purchases and had very good and honest advice from them. I have even asked concerning collateral issues such as what are the best gloves for outdoor winter photography, and when the person on the phone did not have an answer they took my number and called me back later in the day. My advice to someone who is concerned about getting time with a salesman is to call ahead to see how busy they are. Again, sometimes questions can be handled over the phone and picking a good time to get there (and find parking) can be priceless.

Midwest Photo came to Florida School in Daytona Beach as support for the educational program there. Steve Hurley and the other staff were very knowledgeable in photo gear and helped the students navigate through the technical aspects of digital photography and lighting. I purchased two Pocket Wizard Plus X Transceivers and a wireless remote to trigger the shutter on my Canon camera. I am extremely happy with my purchases. Slightly less than a year later, my wireless remote was not firing my shutter, and the staff at Midwest went out of their way to help me trouble shoot this problem. Midwest Photo Exchange has recently become one of those companies I know I can trust. After a recent order mix-up, I called in and was speaking with Mat Marrash almost immediately. I waited 7 days (two non-business days included) and called them because I didn't receive any notice via email that it was sent and it had already been a long time (I would have received my order from many other places by this time). I don't know what would have happened to my order had I not called them. There was a DVD about shooting with light included with my order. This a real camera store! Just like a camera store used to be 30 years ago! Go in there on any given Saturday and it is packed and the atmosphere electric filled with passionate photographers and staff. Where to start.... OK gear, they have virtually every camera and lens on hand for what ever you are shooting (including the big multi-thousand dollar flagship models) they will happily let you test any lens or body you like. They do not pressure sell and will give you the full range of options... Here is an example I went in to buy the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8VRII they suggested to me the similar Tamron version actually had better sharpness & color (which it does) said here take this Tamron home for the week bring it back next Saturday and if you want the Nikon will give you a full refund well, I kept the lens and saved $900 bucks. I have had them price match the big New York online boys SEVERAL times and the rental department is well stocked and very affordable to give that lens you are looking at a proper test drive. Tragically my employment in Columbus ended & I had to move back to St Louis where it is terrible I went to the local "chain" recently to look at an A7RII and they looked at me like I fell out of a tree, so I looked at the lens selection in the store and it wasn't much better than Best Buy... I REALLY miss MPEX if you get a chance go check out a real camera store and be happy

While I have certainly bought a lot from Amazon and B&H in my day, I'd always prefer to support a good local business if I can. I emailed Midwest with a couple of questions (which soon became a dozen questions, haha) about some lighting products and was thus introduced to Adam, who has been more than helpful in helping me to pick out the products that were well suited to my needs. In particular I wanted to upgrade my Pocketwizards and pick up some softboxes and other associated accessories, but as a wedding photographer speed and ease of use in setup/teardown are a big priority. Adam cheerfully assisted and I will now go out of my way to find him with any questions I may have. I also appreciate that Adam was willing to price match in many cases (or come close to it, whenever possible) the superstores like Amazon and B&H, which probably do 10-100x the volume in sales. This is important because, well, business is business and while I'd rather support a local business, I have my own to look after. So far I have been very pleased with the tabs I've run up there - again, very comparable to the superstores. The actual storefront is somewhat crowded with people and equipment and it can feel a little chaotic and disorganized. You may sometimes wait a little while before any one asks you if they can help you find something. Having said that, in my subsequent trips the pros have well outweighed these minor sticking points and I am now a loyal Midwest customer.

Ken is the real MVP. I shot an event that was very important to a family. The day I was transferring the files I saw them on my camera, plugged the cf card to my computer and a bunch of random folders populated with weird characters. . I used wondershare recovery program which was overpriced at 80 and it didn't do anything but recover corrupted files that when I opened only appeared black. Ken not only recovered my files but did a process to get them converted into high quality jpegs, and not only at work but during his own time at home. Customer Service is nonexistent. It takes half an hour to get a sales associate to help you, and when you finally do, they act as if you are asking them for an arm and a limb when you request to see an item/check something out for you. Horrible customer service!!! As this is the only camera store that has what I need when I need it, I often find myself in there. I ALWAYS regret it.
