I have numerous medical issues, including fibromyalgia, headaches, acid reflux, IBS, and arthritis. I have to admit, before coming to Complete Oriental Medical Care I was a mess and at my absolute wit's end. I was in immense pain every day, and all my doctors could do was provide prescription after prescription, none of which worked to alleviate my pain or assisted my body in any way shape, or form to help its healing process. I decided to take a different approach and sought the advice of Steven Sonmore. Steven is extremely knowledgeable with years of experience and dedication to the healing properties of acupuncture. He is truly gifted, listens attentively, explains his techniques, and has the ability to help your body in its capabilities to heal. Steven and I went over my medical and prescription records and he put together a wellness plan to improve the quality of my life through acupuncture, cupping, and the use of Chinese herbs. I have had numerous acupuncture and cupping sessions, as well as using the Chinese herbs, and I can say without a doubt that my mind and body have improved with each session. My symptoms have lessened drastically, and my headaches and the physical pain from fibromyalgia and arthritis have been drastically reduced. I can actually garden for short periods of time again, and go for a walk, which is something I haven't done for well over two years. I cannot say enough about Complete Oriental Medical Care and Steven, the services he provides is life-changing. I have recommended Steven to all of my family and friends, and we are now enjoying the benefits and a much better, and healthier means of assisting our bodies in the healing process. I cannot recommend Complete Oriental Medical Care and Steven enough. HIGHLY recommend!

Two friends recommended Steven Sonmore after they had amazing results for two separate issues. It wasn't that I was skeptical, I just thought it might help a little. I've had IBS for over 30 years. What can I say? I experienced bliss on day one. I have never been without pain, bloating, and discomfort and it was just gone. This is a top notch, well-managed acupuncture and TCM office that has been in business for many years. Steven is immensely talented with his delivery of both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. His approach is unique, aggressive, and highly effective. I have been to a number of acupuncturists over the years and none have helped me to heal the way Steven has. I had my ankle replaced in Nov 2019 and through PT and rehab, my gait changed causing the discs in my lower back to herniate. This caused debilitating pain and I was unable to stand or walk without great pain. I went to my doctor and they recommended oral sterols and pain medication and then revaluation. I was in severe pain and didn't want to wait to see if this prescribed treatment worked. I called multiple acupuncturists and the took the first one who would see me. In October of 2017 I was diagnosed as having aggressive prostate cancer by the doctors at the VA Medical Center. My wife and I decided that we wanted to battle this cancer using multiple tools. Besides the standard western medicine tools (used by the VA doctors) of radiation and hormone therapy, we settled on Steven Sonmore and his Oriental Medical Care practice. We chose Steven because he had treated my wife with acupuncture when she was diagnosed with kidney cancer. His treatments were very supportive in her fight. In my case, I started with multiple acupuncture treatments weekly over several months. Also during that time Steven prescribed an oriental herbal mixture to strengthen and support my treatment. I feel that his acupuncture and herbal mixture were major contributors to my remission diagnosis in May of 2018. Stevens treatments also helped alleviate many of the side effects of my other treatments such as dizziness, headaches and pain. I have benefited greatly from the acupuncture I am receiving at Complete Oriental Medicine. I went Steven Sonmore after having my gallbladder removed. I had experienced symptoms of nausea, abdominal distress, increased anxiety, palpitations, panic attacks, increased depression and terrible insomnia. In just one month my anxiety and depression decreased significantly and my palpitations went away. My ability to sleep also improved drastically. I had been experiencing abdominal distress and nausea for years, before I found out my gallbladder was under-functioning. Nothing seemed to be working for my sciatic pain in my right leg, so my chiropractor suggested acupuncture. Since I did not know much about it, I was apprehensive about being poked with needles, but decided I should give it a try. I was impressed by the fact that he was cured of his pain through acupuncture. I felt that someone who has gone through pain, and was cured, and decided to study it and go into the same field, would understand what it is like to be in pain and would treat others with compassion. So I made an appointment for a consultation. I was asked to fill out a detailed form regarding my health history. I found Steven to be very thorough and compassionate. He was able to diagnose I have an unresolved UTI issue, which I had forgotten to mention on the form. After several sessions, my sciatic pain was much less, but I kept going regularly to Steven so that my sciatica issue would be totally cured, and he was also able to simultaneously start treatment on my UTI, lower back, and hormonal issues. This has been an amazing experience for me. Steven began treating me with acupuncture and Chinese herbs for migraines about two months ago, and within two weeks I began to see results (some experience relief for their issues immediately; with others it takes longer). I’ve had chronic migraine headaches for almost my entire life. For the last 8 years, I had a migraine on an average of 20 days out of every month. It had even been suggested to me by my doctor that I starting looking into filing for disability. During those 8 years, I tried everything to alleviate the migraines including seeing a neurologist, physical therapist, chiropractor and therapist. I tried restrictive diets, yoga, prescription medications and even acupuncture and Chinese herbs (at other locations). While some were helpful in slightly reducing the frequency of migraine, I could never get it below 15 migraines per month. When I started seeing Steven at Complete Oriental Medical Care, my migraines began to improve dramatically right away. In just a few weeks, they were almost completely gone and I feel better than I had in over a decade. Many thanks to Steven and his staff for their support. Two issues were addressed - meniscus tears in both knees and leg pain from what was originally diagnosed a sciatica. I arrived with pain at levels 8 and 9 and left with my knees in the 2-3 range, while my sciatica tempered as well. Steven took great care to demonstrate stretching exercises which I perform religiously. I have continued his herbal powder as well to support my healing. He has a gentle hand when working his magic. I've had low back pain on and off for many years and have tried Physical Therapy, anti-inflamatories, pain pills, you name it, but the pain always came back. About 3 to 4 weeks ago I decided to try acupuncture so I searched the web for an acupuncturist. I visited many sites and discovered that Steven was rated in the Top 20 of the state's 500+ acupuncturists. I went to his web site and filled out the form to get an appointment on a Sunday hoping I could get a call back on Monday. Imagine my surprise when I received a call Sunday night and was able to see Steven the very next day. Since then I've had 13 treatments for my back pain and it's virtually gone. The procedures are really quite restful. Steven puts on some relaxing music, inserts the tiny acupuncture needles, dims the lights and lets you relax. I can't tell you how rejuvenating this is. Wow! I love everything about Complete Oriental Medical Care! It is an amazing place! I originally found Steven via a Google search and read through his mountains of positive reviews. I initially came in for a consultation about an old shoulder injury that limited my mobility and caused me regular pain and discomfort; a friend had recommended that I try acupuncture to relieve the underlying issues. I have been so happy with not only my results on my shoulder, which have been cumulative and long-lasting, but also on the innumerable other benefits of acupuncture: I sleep much better, I have a greater overall sense of health and well-being, and not having daily pain and discomfort has freed me up to return to things I had let go (rollerblading, certain types of exercise I no longer felt comfortable trying). The other most amazing ancillary benefit of my time with Steven has been a decrease in overall stress. Like everybody I have a stressful job and I work long hours, the sessions at Complete Oriental Medial Care have been my time to do some self-care and some quiet meditation, both things that have been pretty lost in the past number of years between career and being a parent. It is some of the most important and valuable time in my week. I have moved on from working on my shoulder to a combination of other things that needed work, stress release, some lower back pain and his support of my weight-loss goals has been also quite effective. Finally, the form of acupuncture that Steven practices (Distal Needle Acupuncture) does not require undressing which makes getting in and out easy when the days are busy. I came to Complete Oriental Medical Care to get help with a pinched nerve in my shoulder. I had severe pain in my shoulder and numbness in my hand. I sought help from my clinic and the clinic doctor provided steroids and muscle relaxants. These medications provided some relief but left me groggy and unable to work effectively. The pain also made it difficult to get restful sleep. I was a ball of pain and feeling like a zombie. I decided to seek acupuncture to get relief without the hard medicine. The acupuncture provided by Steven has been incredible. With the first treatment I felt relief. Within a few weeks my pain substantially subsided and I felt human again. With the addition of the Chinese herbs I also aches a restful and regular nightly slumber without the sluggish feeling. Steven is absolutely an expert acupuncturist. He designs a care plan specifically to the needs of each patient. I couldn’t be happier with my results.

2 years ago, my brother passed away from complications of congestive heart failure. The week after his passing, I experienced a number of ailments ranging from intestinal pressure to head pain and trauma to severe panic attacks and more. I saw a number of medical doctors, specialists, natural healers, homeopaths, and psychologists over that 2 year span, and costing me thousands out of pocket. I stopped in to see Dr Steven once about a year ago in between other doctors visits, received a single treatment, and felt better than I did with any of the other treatments. I was still in such a panic at the time then I wasn't sure Acupuncture was the answer. Many of the symptoms subsided, with the exception of visual distortion and moderate anxiety. I recently decided to revisit Dr Steven and commit to 6 visits, which was all I could afford while unemployed. After only 3 treatments, I could start to feel my anxiety dwindling, and my ability to feel excitement and move around at a faster pace without the onset of mild panic. I hope to return for a few more treatments, and have decided to replace my general practitioner with Dr Steven in cases where Acupuncture will be more effective. (I've tried acupuncture at two other highly rated practices in the Twin Cities, and neither place gave me the result I was looking for)

I saw Steve 1st time a few years ago for my anxiety and some memory related issues. He suggested me a total of 18 treatments. Boy what a difference.. He hit the right chord and my anxiety was totally gone!! I don't recall feeling so good in years without the meds I had been on!! I came to Steve after I had hurt my back. I had two herniated discs and a pinched sciatic nerve. I was in extreme pain. I wanted to do all I could to relieve the pain, numbness and damage without surgery. I gave up the pain killers prescribed to me because of the severe side-effects. I have had high blood pressure for nearly three years. An Internal Medicine (IM) physician prescribed a 10 mg does of an Ace Inhibitor which gave me an extreme dry cough. Next was a Calcium Channel Blocker with side affects of swollen feet, ankles, and legs. Of course, IM mentioned giving me another medication to help that situation. That's when I knew without a doubt I was on the wrong path. I wanted healing not to keep covering up symptoms and having side affects upon side affects. I began my investigation of alternative healing and found Steven Sonmore and acupuncture. The night before my initial evaluation and treatment by Steven, my blood pressure spiked up to 150/128. My entire internal system was racing, my chest /breathing felt heavy and I felt terrible. Steven's diagnose and first treatment, hit the bulls eye. During this treatment, I began to feel a calm that was missing for a long time. After the treatment, I felt so uplifted, happy, and calm. All natural. I left saying this was "delicious." I had my second treatment and a day later my blood pressure was 115/69. Fantastic results. I also take the Chinese herbs Steven recommends. My energy level is very good. I've been going to Complete Oriental Medical Care for over 2 years now. I originally sought out acupuncture because of an ear issue that resulted from a plugged ear due to a bad cold that turned into a sinus infection. I had been to an ENT and treated with steroids and antibiotics. The antibiotics cured the sinus infection but did nothing for the ear and being on steroids is unpleasant and nothing I wanted to do on a regular basis. It was an airplane trip that replugged the ear and was causing pain. After a series of treatments, the ear issue resolved. I have continued seeing Steven because he has helped with back pain and general well being. I find that with acupuncture, my immune system seems to be stronger, I have more energy, and clarity of mind. Acupuncture has become part of my wellness routine. Nai Jin makes sure that I am scheduled well in advance and is really flexible to accommodate my busy school schedule. I have been receiving treatment from Steven Sonmore for neuropathy, which causes numbness, tingling and a burning sensation in my legs, hands and feet. The burning is sometimes so intense at night that I cannot sleep. Through acupuncture and herbal medicine my symptoms have been relieved. I am sleeping a lot better, and my sense of well-being has been restored. The acupuncture treatments are so relaxing and pleasant that I often fall asleep. My condition is one that will need time to cure, which Steven told me up front. I am so happy that I found Steven Sonmore and my only regret is that I didn't find him sooner. I had suffered from head pressure, neck pain and headaches that would plague me from the moment I woke up to the moment I finally fell asleep. A deep, chronic, thumping pain that stole a lot of joy from my life. I saw a traditional chiropractor for 6 months and did have some relief of my pain but only for it to crop back up with a vengeance later. I finally in tears went to my family doctor who put me on muscle relaxers which also helped but I still had a dull roar of a pain and was also groggy from the side effects of the medication. Knowing I didn't want to be on muscle relaxers the rest of my life and realizing that I had a core imbalance that medicine was only hiding- I looked up acupuncture and easily pinpointed Steven as the most educated and experienced in his field. One of the first things he said to me at our initial meeting was " I can help you." It wasn't a possibility of health or a chance that it would get slightly better... it was a confident proclamation that he could help me, and he hasn't let me down. I have now had 10 treatments and each and every time I feel as if my baseline of health is improving. I haven't made it easy on him either as in addition to the head and neck issues I had a week long sinus infection and have been a terrible bundle of stress with an upcoming cross country move. Each time he has graciously listened and always ask questions to ensure that he understands exactly how my body is feeling and reacting to each treatment. The Chinese herbs he recommended have been lifesavers and he has also instructed me on other life changes I can make such as diet to enhance my quality of life. He is very kind and sincere and makes you feel comfortable and at ease with any concerns you may have and you leave knowing that he truly cares about your progress. I truly wish I would have followed my instincts sooner and reached out to him as I know I would have saved myself a lot of pain and stress. I have gone to Steven several times for acupuncture treatments and cupping. I have been using acupuncture as a form of treatment for headaches, anxiety, sickness and general wellness for several years and Steven is by far the best I have been to. My most recent visit was to treat a chronic drip in my nose, severe headache bordering on migraine and general feelings of malaise and nausea. After one treatment my condition 90% better and the Chinese herbs he prescribed were remarkably helpful. I do not understand or agree with the ONE commenter on here who seems to make outlandish and malicious claims about Steven including absurd remarks stating that the clinic "smells." The clinic is always very clean and Steven is very observant . I can attest first hand that he treats his patients with the utmost care and attention. I would recommend this clinic to any family member or friend looking for a professional practitioner with a track record of success. I would also question the motivation of a single reviewer who seems to have a personal vendetta out against an outstanding practice filled with clients who are loyal and pleased with their treatments and results.

I would like to tell you about my first personal experience with acupuncture. But before I start let me say that I was a skeptic but not as much as some of my friends. The reason for that was my husband Don had used acupuncture in the past on the recommendation of a friend who suggested acupuncturist Steven Sonmore. He got excellent results with Steve who treated both his knee pain and a tightening area in his esophagus. Since I was hurting in the sciatica area and down my leg I was a little hesitant. I was quite familiar with the route of traditional American medicine as I had audited records of people being treated for spine and back problems. Many people went through pills, X-rays, PT, chiropractic, MRIs, spinal injections and other options only to keep returning and finally having surgery. A long process that often seemed to end with not a great deal of relief or repeating some of the process all over again. So after my husband’s experience I decided to try acupuncture with Steve, also. There I learned that there were two premises: 1. You need to treat the underlying cause not just the symptoms; and 2. It would take time to heal the problem but following that you needed to continue until you reached a point where you entered more of a state of wellness. I wanted this to work and I wanted it to last so I was willing to go all the way and not stop when I thought I was OK. I am feeling better after only 11 treatments in a 4 week period. I can sit, walk and stand without pain…maybe still some little discomfort at times but so much better than I was. And thanks to Steve I went from using codeine, Tylenol and ibuprofen to nothing. So now I am headed onward to see if I can maintain the progress I have made.

Due to perimenopause, I have been suffering from bloat, heart burn, indigestion, hot flashes and insomnia. I an happy to say that acupuncture treatments for these symptoms is working. Steven has been able to get rid of the hot flashes and I now only have occasional bouts of bloat, heart burn and indigestion. The same can be said about my insomnia. When I tell Steven that I haven’t been sleeping thru the night, he treats me for insomnia and within a few days, I start sleeping well again. I am so glad a friend referred me to Steven Sonmore!! Nearly 2 years ago, I was in a double whiplash car accident (I was the 4th car of 6 to collide). I have not been able to rotate my head enough to see car in another lane, or to ride a motorcycle, or even to pull out a ticket at a parking ramp. Went to Oriental Medical Care back in 2010 to solve my recurring tummy troubles and after a fabulous diagnosis and a 10 day accupuncture course and some chinese herbs and supplements for a few more months, many of my problems were resolved for at least a couple of years! When I went back to MSP in 2015, I made it a point to go back for some treatment. Same results as before ... Steven is a great practitioner, really listens to you and then diagnoses the problem before recommending any course of action. I have had great results using Steven Sonmore and Complete Oriental Medical Care/Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. I went to Steven initially after waking up with severe pain in my neck and upper back that would not subside. He worked on treating the pain, and i had immediately relief. Over a period of three weeks, the pain was gone. I am now seeing him for other issues and am sending my husband and children there as well. Steve is an interesting guy and knows Chinese medicine which i am becoming a believer it! I have been referring to him many people as well. I have a hard time even going to a western "medical doctor" anymore as they are so ready to put you into a category and don't take time to know you personally. They know almost nothing about diet (medical degree require only one class on diet), and they treat primarily with surgery and drugs and, i do not believe in either. Our family has had numerous major misdiagnoses that would have led to death or severe unalterable medical conditions had i complied with their foolish antics by such aggressive medical means. I do a lot of research and read profusely on this topic. I also stand up to the capitalistic engine that is "healthcare" now devouring our countrymen here in the US as medical malpractice is now the third largest cause of death in the US with the US healthcare system ranking somewhere between 50th and 80th in the world which seems hypocrisy as we are one of the wealthiest nations. It is a shame.

I started experiencing hormonal issues about 5-6 years ago. It first started with me missing my periods for 2, 3, and 4 months here and there until I reached the point when I went almost a year without having my periods. That was when I realized that the issue was far more serious than I played it out to be. At that time, I started to having some serious insomnia symptoms where I could go 48 hours straight with no sleep. Even when I had the chance to finally fall asleep, I will wake up at random time of the night and would be unable to go back to sleep. I was also feeling really tired, a bit depressed, and wanted very little to do with outdoors activities. Symptoms of constant migraine were present and I was popping 2-4 Excedrin pills a day just to keep them at bay. My weight was rapidly increasing and it appeared that no matter what I did in terms of exercising and dieting, the weight just could not come off but kept increasing instead. I was constantly cold from some reasons and could go from being cold to hot and back and forth within few minutes. At that time I went to my primary physician who ran few tests that confirmed that my thyroid was perfectly fine. From there he proceeded to offer me 1 option: which was to put me on birth control. I nicely explained that I did not want to get on any artificial meds or hormones to address the issue and wanted a more natural path but the doctor explained that it was the last option I had. I then decided to google natural paths to addressing such issues and stumbled on Complete Oriental Medical Care. I was extremely skeptical at first but because my back was against the wall, I took a leap of faith. During my first appointment, the environment was very simple, welcoming, and Steven proceeded to diagnose my condition. After my first month of treatment in addition to the herbal supplement, my period which did not show up for 1 year at that time made its appearance, my cold feet and “menopause like” symptoms at the age of 26 disappear, my sleep was going back to normal. My elderly mother was diagnosed with advanced dementia back in 2015. The deterioration continued until by the end of 2018, she was losing motor control and in Jan 2019 had a bad fall and hit her head. We had no choice but to move her into a nursing home in March 2019, as we could no longer care for her at home. She was almost fully unresponsive, in a high-backed wheelchair because she could not support her own head, on oxygen 24/7, had to be transferred between bed and wheelchair with an automated lift, could not feed herself, and had to be put on thickened liquids and pureed food because she was losing her ability to chew and swallow. Steven Sonmore started treating her in the nursing home in mid-March. After two sessions, to our surprise, she responded to simple questions with one- or two-word answers. Over the subsequent weeks, she started to occasionally proactively ask about family members and was able to maintain short back-and-forths about a given topic. One of the nurses said she almost cried when one day my mother noticed and commented on how pretty her necklace was. In May, my mother was taken off of daytime oxygen. Physical Therapy signed her out of their services because she was now so mobile that she could stand up and sit down on her own and walk 75 ft. with a walker; there was nothing more they needed to do for her except to prescribe her to practice walking 2x a day. In June, Speech Therapy re-tested her, and she is now back on regular, thin liquids and ordinary soft foods cut into small pieces. My mother now feeds herself and is able to transfer with a 2-wheeled walker and 1-person assist between bed and wheelchair, as well as wheelchair and toilet--yes, she now can say when she needs to use the toilet and can actually use it. The other morning I told her that my son was going to dance class; that same evening, I brought him to visit her, and to my amazement, she asked, "So did he go to dance class?" For anyone with a family member with advanced dementia, you know just how tremendous it is for that person to actually remember something even ten minutes later, much less several hours. We are ethnic Chinese and have spent most of our lives in Greater China--Hong Kong, Taipei, and Beijing. We know the benefits of Chinese medicine and have seen numerous very good practitioners throughout Asia. I can say hands down that Steven Sonmore is the most effective doctor of acupuncture that we have ever encountered. Previous doctors of Chinese medicine have certainly helped our various family members in many ways. But never have I witnessed as fast and stark an improvement as I have with the treatment of my mother's dementia. Finally, let me clarify that there have been no major changes to my mother’s medications, and as good as it is, the care in the nursing home is always simply supporting what her needs are at any given time. Now, at the end of July 2019, just two weeks before my mother's 95th birthday, there is no question in my mind that it is Steven Sonmore’s acupuncture which is the reason for my mother awaking from the debilitating fog of dementia and now being able to enjoy a significantly higher quality of life for her remaining years.

This has been the best experience I have had with my health. I have chronic migraines (20-24 per month). I have tried everything, and finally ended up at Mao Clinic.
